Getting back together after several years where both people have grown into themselves, and are actively still trying to better themselves, is different than going back to an ex a couple weeks or so later with none of what I previously stated having happened.
Met my now fiancé at 16. We just weren’t meant for each other at that point in our lives. We stayed in touch throughout the years and got back together at 21. We now have a toddler and a baby on the way. Sometimes you just need to grow up and find yourself before you settle down.

I met my now husband in both of our active addictions. We had some mutual friends and ended up hanging out a couple of times, neither one of us were in a place to date. Both unhealthy, sick, and strung out frankly. Fast forward 7 years or so, I was working in retail and he stopped me to ask where something was, I turned around to answer his question, we recognized each other and the rest is history. We were both healthy, happy , and clean, and still are. We now have two beautiful children together and he’s the best husband and father that I ever could’ve prayed for. ❤

This is such a lovely story. I'm currently heartbroken over an ex, who we mutually broke up a month ago. While I miss him and love him and wish we could get back together, your story helped me realise it could never work. He would never sit down and have those tough conversations with me, he would never express his feelings, and he would rarely put in any effort. In fact he seemed to do everything he could to deprioritise me and the relationship when we were together 😢 feeling very sad but it helps me to hear beautiful love stories like this, that there's hope one day that I might find a real connection like this 💕

I think we were both super infatuated the second we locked eyes lol, I had to get his number from my friend after that session haha. A weird coincidence was seeing someone’s headstone who shared my/our rare-ish name Helena and the last name Love. I know it’s silly but I feel like subtle little things like that is the universe throwing hints lol

The story of my relationship is very similar to yours. My boyfriend and I were together back in 2017 and were together for about a year and a half, we broke up because I was going through a lot with health issues and school stress and I was pushing him away slowly. During the time apart I did a lot of self reflection and growth. We got back together 2 years ago and it's been the best decision we've made. We are each others soulmates and meant to be. What an amazing man even being 6 years younger with his actions he is such a gentleman and definitely a keeper and shows so much maturity. It’s so hard now days to find a man that just do things for us women like removing the snow from our car. We don’t ask for much but things like that just gives me so much hope their still great man out there. By the way I have a daughter with someone 6 years younger than me. He has definitely grown so much in the last 5 years too but I know we aren’t meant to be just co-parent and that is fine too ❤

I’m going through something kind of similar…. Me and my bf have been together for 4 years and we have a 2 year old son. I’m a full time nursing student (graduate in Dec as well) and he pays the bills. The stress from being parents, college, and work has absolutely killed our relationship. I have so much personal growth to do and I feel like I won’t be able to reach my full potential while being in a relationship. There’s a lot of resentment and hostility between us but it wasn’t always like that. He says if I leave him he has no interest on getting back together, and I honestly don’t think I would either. This situation has been really hard for me to accept, especially since I can’t make any moves until I’m done with school. Sorry for the rant I just felt the need to get that off my chest. I hope you will try to make your relationship work even though there is so much happening in your life. You can grow and learn what you need to learn without breaking up. Your son doesn’t need to go through the trauma of the relationship ending. I hope you’ll be able to grow together.

What are the pros and cons of your relationship right now? At the foundation, is your boyfriend your ideal man? If you guys didn't have all of the external factors, stress, resentment, etc., would you be happy together? If so, there's probably something good there that's worth saving. If couple's therapy is an option for you, that could be a big help if you do decide to work through things. But if you could see yourself with someone else, then maybe parting ways is best. I know Rachel commented that you shouldn't put your son through the "trauma" of a breakup, but as someone who grew up with parents that were not happy and had a lot of resentment, I will tell you, the best thing you can do for your son is be HAPPY and demonstrate a happy and healthy relationship to him. Growing up in a house with constant fighting was more traumatizing, in my experience, and I would beg my parents to separate. Whatever is best for YOU, will be what's best for your children.

Oh wow, that's amazing! I do think having space to grow individually while you're young is good, but it's not always necessary for every relationship. I think there's always going to be some type of "problems" you're going to have to face and work out together, because that's part of being human, so the important thing is to be with someone that loves you enough to fight for the relationship and want to work through it. I’m on the hold. My life is on the hold from 2020. And I am waiting. He is working on his PHD. And we are here in the US I can’t work because of my visa situation. My career is stopped, but I have a children. I don’t have a job. I can’t work here with my children and I don’t know if I go back home to my country I will find a job right away. At the same time the idea of going back home to that city I don’t like it and I don’t want it… I want to separate but I can’t.
Are you afraid that at some point the same issue will be reversed? Especially with the age difference maybe he’ll want to start a family but with the age difference you won’t be or don’t want to ?
Like I said, we've discussed everything, and we're definitely on the same page. After working through things for years and everything we've been through, we wouldn't have taken this step if we weren't both sure about it. Of course there's never a guarantee, and that goes for any relationship, but no, I don't have any fears.

Yes, same! It's funny because when I was younger, I really only hung around people that were older or my same age. NONE of my friends were younger than me. But in recent years, most of the newer friends I've made are all younger. I just gravitate towards younger people now, and maybe it's because of where I am in my life, but I kind of love it.

I think there's always going to be some type of "problems" you're going to have to face and work out together, because that's part of being human, so the important thing is to be with someone that loves you enough to fight for the relationship and want to work through it. Sometimes you can just get use to the person being there- in my case that's what happened unfortunately we did separate I still care for him but I think we needed to go our separate ways

I’m on the hold. My life is on the hold from 2020. And I am waiting. He is working on his PHD. And we are here in the US I can’t work because of my visa situation. My career is stopped, but I have a children. I don’t have a job. I can’t work here with my children and I don’t know if I go back home to my country I will find a job right away. At the same time the idea of going back home to that city I don’t like it and I don’t want it… I want to separate but I can’t.

Like I said, we've discussed everything, and we're definitely on the same page. After working through things for years and everything we've been through, we wouldn't have taken this step if we weren't both sure about it. Yes, same! It's funny because when I was younger, I really only hung around people that were older or my same age. NONE of my friends were younger than me. But in recent years, most of the newer friends I've made are all younger. I just gravitate towards younger people now, and maybe it's because of where I am in my life, but I kind of love it.
