Hey guys! Just an update, as of yesterday I've been at my parents' place to visit for a little 'holiday' of sorts. I won't be working on videos here, but don't worry, I've prepared in advance and you guys will have daily uploads until the end of the year! Thanks so much for the support on the series in the meantime and I'll be sure to say hey during the Premieres

The placement of trainers in the True Power Tournament was supposed to be secret, but Wallace and Juan both knew that they were in the fourth bracket, and had shared that information with each other before the battles began. So, Wallace was not at all surprised when he saw Juan's distinctive coat out on the field of the empty stadium, his back to Wallace.
Wallace knew better than anyone how elegant and powerful his mentor was; they hadn't battled in so long, and Wallace was itching to see if he'd at last surpassed the master.
As he went forward, Wallace paused for a moment; something didn't feel right. Juan seemed shorter, perhaps bent over, and he was wearing a strange hood over his head. He didn't say a word, even though he had to hear Wallace coming.
“Juan, my friend?” Wallace called out. “Is everything all right?” No response. “Come now, this is what we were both hoping for, certainly nothing could dampen your spirits today, old friend. Juan ...?”
Wallace was right there. He started to reach out, to see if Juan was okay ... and the figure spun around.
“SURPRISE!!!” the little dark-haired girl said, eyes alight with manic energy, the coat she wore spinning as she lowered her hood.
Wallace jumped like a Spoink, springing a foot backwards. _What in the ...?!_ For a moment, he thought he must have been mistaken ... but no, he'd recognize that fabulous coat anywhere!
“Who are you?” Wallace said. “And why are you wearing _that?”_ Juan's coat was so large that it came down to her ankles, hanging loose: to say that it looked odd would be an understatement.
“I'm Zinnia, but about that last point, I really don't know!” She shrugged, an utterly baffled frown on her face. “After I beat him, Mr. Crawdaunt-coat said he wanted to give this to me, for some reason. Don't ask me why! You Sootopolitans are _weird,_ but I didn't wanna make him sad or anything!”
Wallace couldn't help but chuckle. Juan had been joking about giving his coat to the trainers who beat him for years and years, but Wallace didn't think he would actually do it. “I confess myself at a loss!” he said. “How in the world did you manage to overcome Juan?” Wallace hadn't been sure that even he could beat Juan at his full power: Wallace thought his own choices in Pokémon were better, but Juan's team had been several levels above even Steven's when he had left the championship to Wallace.
“Oh, wasn't that hard!” Zinnia said. “Yeah, he put up a fight, but Rayquaza man-handled his team good, took 'em all out!”
Wallace laughed out loud. _Surely she's joking. No trainer has ever captured Rayquaza!_ “Oh, what a shame!” he thought. “How greatly I looked forward to at last testing myself against my teacher's full power!”
“Oh, yeah, sorry,” Zinnia said in a wry voice. “I know, I know, the big rematch, and I ruined it, sorry, but c'mon, don't you already know how it was gonna go? He'd say he's proud of you, you're his best student, this is your final test, you've surpassed even him, blah blah blah. I mean, didn't he lay it on good and thick when you became champion, already?”
Wallace kept laughing. _My, what a delightful girl!_ She reminded him of Lisia, almost. And despite her ridiculous boasts, she must be very skilled to overcome Juan.
“Well, perhaps _I_ can put _you_ to the ultimate test, instead!” Wallace said. He cast back his cape, freeing his hands to reach for Pokéballs. “So! You think you can dance with the greatest trainers and win? Well, we're in the right place for it! I look forward to seeing the true extent of your power!”
At that moment, a voice came across the field. “UNCLE WALLACE! UNCLE WALLACE!”
Wallace turned. Lisia was racing across the field towards them, carrying a Pokénav.
“Well!” Wallace said. “Lisia! I was just thinking of you!”
Lisia put her hands on her knees, panting. “I'm sorry! I didn't mean to touch your Pokénav, but it kept ringing and ringing and ringing, and I had to see what it was about, and it was _Juan,_ and he was talking like crazy, and now they're showing everyone who's gonna battle who, and ... oh no! That's her, isn't it?” She stared at Zinnia in horror. Zinnia winked and gave her a victory sign.
“Oh, it's quite alright, my dear,” Wallace said. “I expect Juan just wished to tell me that we won't be battling in the main bracket, after all, but that is no problem at all; once I've finished with our young friend here, I'm sure my master will win his way up through the second bracket to ...”
    “SHE HAS RAYQUAZA!!!” Lisia said.
Wallace turned, appraising Zinnia's smirk with new eyes.
“And she's been seen with Magma _and_ Aqua gear!” Lisia said. “I mean, she might be either of them!” She glared at Zinnia and pointed a finger. “You leave my uncle alone, you ... you ... you mean, Aqua-Magma-Dragon person!”
Around them, people began entering the stands, filling the seats. It was almost time for the match to begin.
“Aw, don't you worry yourself!” Zinnia said. “I'm no Magma! I'm no Aqua! But I am kind of a big deal, you know, being Rayquaza's chosen one and all!” She pulled out a Pokéball. “You came for a dance? I'll show you a dance: a Dragon Dance! Hahaha!”

Honestly don't think the Draco Meteor and Head Smash misses were that crucial for Wallace though. Gyarados missed it's bounce so it ended up being taken out anyway, and I'm not sure if Ludicolo would have taken out Tyrantrum from that range but Starmie could probably have outspeed Tyrantrum anyway and finished it off.

Wallace's team, despite also being mono-water, is quite different from Juan's: whereas Juan relied more on setting up weather and going for broke with boosted sweeps, Wallace has many more Pokémon that could withstand Zinnia's hugely powerful attacks, but that leaves him in the same pickle that Tucker was against Anabel: if his Pokémon take even a little damage, that will put them in range for a huge sweep from Rayquaza or Mega-Salamence, which means that his ability to switch and use Life Orb is going to be seriously compromised.
Starmie is the biggest asset that Wallace has, because of its speed and ability to swiftly KO Zinnia's dragons (including Rayquaza!) with Ice Beam, but if it's using Life Orb, it could easily get within range of Mega-Mence, or just an Extreme Speed from Rayquaza. Wallace could very potentially take this by buffeting Zinnia with an unending storm of Ice Beams, Punches, and Fangs, but knocking out the rest of her Pokémon without being weakened to within range of a sweep from her heavy hitters is going to be a tall order, doubly so if Goodra is packing Thunderbolt. Swampert switching in on that is an obvious play, but if Zinnia predicts it, Wallace's hopes of victory just might go down the drain.
Edit: Wow, everything went wrong for Zinnia! She led with the wrong Pokémon, Goodra didn't have Thunderbolt, she used up her only means of blocking Ice type attacks (Goodra and Exploud) way too fast, and perhaps most disastrously, she sacrificed Tyrantrum against Ludicolo. If she had switched to Exploud, she would very possibly have won, as Tyrantrum could have outrun every Pokémon on Wallace's team except Ludicolo in the rain and delivered devastating Head Smashes: with it in reserve instead of Exploud, she would have still had a 64% chance of winning even with all her bad luck and previous mistakes, as opposed to practically nothing.
Ironically, despite having two Uber Pokémon, Zinnia is the only trainer in Round 2 to go down with the opponent having more than one Pokémon remaining. Ouch!
I'm looking forward to the Losers' Bracket, and speculating about how it's going to be set up. Since we have 10 losers in the first round and 8 in the second, there are a few different ways it could go: the most likely, I think, is for four of them to compete against each other in a brief preliminary round, and have the winners of those two matches join the other 14 in a merged first round. It sounds a bit odd to have the losers of both Round 1 and Round 2 in the same first round, but that's really the best way I see to get a number divisible by 2.

    Post Battle Analysis: Spoiler
Zinnia started out a turn behind from Jump Street, as her lead (Tyrantrum) was no match for Swampert which gave Wallace two turns of uncontested action courtesy of Stealth Rocks. Zinnia despite the power advantage just couldn't make up this deficit which eventually led to her loss.
Personal note: OP game mechanic (Stealth Rock) beat OP Pokemon.

  • @ethanbrenna9798
    @ethanbrenna9798 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Wallace really should've used stealth rock on the frozen Altaria. He ultimately didn't need it in the end, but there was no downside to doing that instead of trying to hurry up and take out a frozen pokemon. Unless Altaria stayed in and managed to thaw out, the stealth rocks would've either been totally free, or would've been set up on a switch, which would've taken out Altaria when it switched back in anyway. I guess it could've been an attempt to predict a dragon/flying switch in, but there was no way Zinnia was going to take that risk anyway. Going for the earthquake instead of saccing Swampert for stealth rocks was also not the best play. As I said, it worked out in the end, but rocks really would've done a lot of damage throughout the battle.

You'd think that a team that is prodomanaetly Dragon would out do a water team but this just goes to show that Water Types are so vital to the series. I think that Starmie should have thunderbolt on it so it could even be more of a sweaper or even THUNDER if it has rain dance.

When Wallace didn't set up the Stealth Rock again, once Altaria was frozen, i was thinking he would lose because of it. He still manages the team somehow.
Wallace's team is all around pretty solid while Zinnia has monsters and weak ones in a mix.

to be fair Zinnia faced two trainers with mono water types that can all learn ice type moves. and since water pokemon are weak to grass and ice is also good against grass its a no brainer that water type pokemons will have one or two ice moves on them. chances for zinnia to get through 2 top water type trainers were slim. anyway i hope there is a losers bracket too. lots of good trainers in hoenn region

DESERVE. I’m glad the match went this way, none of Wallace’s team gets STAB from Ice Beam so I lost faith when Goodra was tanking hits so well. This was still a close match and I’m glad the monotype trainers are putting up a fight
    Let’s goooo Glacia and Wallace

  • @LordKraken3

At first I thought things wouldn't look too hot for Wallace, since besides Exploud and Tyrantrum, everything else on Zinnia's team cleanly resists Water attacks... But then I saw just how prepared he is for Dragons compared to Juan. He doesn't need to rely on Rain being around to activate Swift Swim to outspeed the opponent- he can just do that with Starmie or Gyarados- the latter after a couple of dragon dances, and then unleash hell on Zinnia with Ice-type attacks that cripple all of her team but Exploud. And if he needs to, he can fall back on the bulk of Swampert, Milotic and Tentacruel, with Swampert even being able to strike with Ice Punch... and we've seen what a beast Milotic can be with Lucy. And if he gets rain up, Ludicolo can just add to the pain with Swift Swim or Rain Dish. In short, unlike Juan, Wallace can take a hit and then strike back just as hard.
So for Zinnia, she'll have to watch her weakness to Ice, which Wallace packs in spades. Thankfully, Exploud is just neutral against Ice-type attacks, so it could provide some assistance in that department, but she needs to hit fast and hard with everyone else before they can be OHKO'd or 2HKO'd by Ice attacks, and that's IF they're not outsped. We haven't seen much of her team, so I can't say for sure how well she could do against Wallace's team... but judging by her competition alone, this is not looking good for her.
Edit: Yup. Got the details all right, and even the margin in which Wallace won (2-0).

Wallace need utilize his ice attacks. But first they either need to outspeed and or survive a hit from Rayquaza. Much less dealing with Zinnia's other threats. Will one of the two champions felt here? I am sure we will do loser bracket before the next round. Whoever come out of this round will joined the other seven. We got a champion of Hoen, the last surviving Elite 4, the last surviving gym leader, 3 frontier brains that armed with legendaries, and an elite trainer, Wally. So will reign Supreme and join the like of Bugsy and Blue?
