Awesome Indoor Test of AtmosFearFX Hollusion Material + Phantasms!

- This a test / demo of two new products from AtmosFearFX - the Phantasms DVD combined with their official Hollusion material.
I will be posting a full review of the Hollusion material (Preview: It's not perfect, but it is very very good) and also doing the entire setup outside - which should really be awesome!
For now though, check out this quick demo of what Phantasms in hologram mode looks like indoors on the official projection material from AtmosFearFX.

I also have to add the fact that this was one of the best videos and setups I have seen yet especially if this is set up from the rear what you you would not see any of the ghost flying into the wall would make it even better, thanks for the video

Nova Halloween anyway you can hook me up with a downloadable file of the Witch? Figure it doesn't hurt to ask. I want to set up a projector for the first time is Halloween the past Halloweens we have met with disaster having problems in our home and we're not able to celebrate Halloween, Which is my and my family's favorite time of the year so I want to make it extra special for them. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask right!

I saw your rear projection yard video. I can see so much potential with this, as long as it's used in moderation. By that I mean, not to have every CD they have playing on every window of your house with conflicting themes. I can easily see people going overboard with this stuff and it turning into something like an effects driven movie like everything in the theaters now. An effect like this is so much better when used sparingly and letting people enjoy it rather than bombarding them with them. I had an idea of using the bone band with the bone dancers in an outdoor cemetery; combine with fog machine and static props. Just need to hook everything up.
Rojo Mojo Well said - I completely agree. Diminishing returns with too many projection effects happening simultaneously.
Your exact idea is what I am creating for my haunt this year. I have the music from Disney’s Haunted Mansion. What color of the chiffon do u think would work best for the outdoor projection?

Great work and thanks for posting this. May I ask what projector you are using: brand name, lumens, etc...
Epson PowerLite 2030 projector. 1080P, 2000 lumens. Works quite well, but go even brighter if you can, especially for outdoor projections.

So how does this work? Can I point the projector towards an opened door so when people walk by they will see the effects?
Yes, it would work in an open door with the fabric covering the doorway.
I actually found some white tulle mesh material do you think , or have you tested the white version, u think itl work?
Sure, white could also work depending on the fabric. I generally found that the grey was more invisible at night. More important is to find a material that gives a sharp image without diffusing the light too much but still being translucent.
What projection material are you using?
how did u do this effect without the image bleeding onto the wall behind it?
The material does a good job of capturing the light without too much bleed through. Also, it helps to pull the projector back from the screen and for the walls on the other side to be as far back as possible.
Nice video. I do have a question did you project from the front or from the rear of the material.
+pico72 This is a front projection, but I plan to do a rear projection when I take everything outside for Halloween. Having a bit of lighting behind the fabric (in this video, the floor light in the background) is very important. Without some light in the background you tend to lose the hologram illusion effect. It takes some experimentation to get it right. I think I can improve on the effect in this video.
+Nova Halloween thanks, I have this disc and the fabric. I'm putting mine outside too. It looks good except the rear projection is dulled a little than the front projection. The lighting I have behind are some of the Halloween lights on the house. But yes , I agree I'll have to tweak it a little in the final set up
Hi there! Just a little confused...I found this video on the Joann Fabrics website as a review for mesh. I clicked the link to see if I could find which exact grey you used, but throughout all the comments and in your description it says you used Hollusion Material...HELP! LOL I have to purchase online, so I wanna get the correct grey for nighttime. I was going between Platinum and Alloy in the Casa Collection Chiffon. Thanks!
Hi! Yes, this is the Hollusion Material from AtmosFX, not from Joann Fabrics. It may be less expensive to buy from a fabric store, but you may want to first try a small sample of each to test how well they work.

Wouldn't a spandex material work as a screen? If you think about it when you stretch spandex it becomes more see through and should allow you to cast the same effect
Sure, this could potentially work - you would just need to experiment with different types. Good suggestion!
This looks amazing! So you got the material from the company? Dimensions? How did you avoid spill-through onto another wall and where did you put your projector? How did you hang your material? We just got the decorating kit. 👏🏻

Been hoping they'd restock the screen but it looks like they must have discontinued it? It's been months since it was last in stock. Luckily, I found another fabric at Jo-Ann's which seems to work so far. Going to test it outside next.
Just in case anyone would like to know, the fabric is part of the Casa Collection and it's the Chiffon Platinum color. Only 45" x (whatever length you buy). Might need to buy double the length then sew the two pieces together.

It`s a lot cheaper to buy Chiffon and I saw another review that it might even be better then the AtmosFX stuff.
have you tried any other material like white Bridal tulle
Yes, you need to experiment a bit to get the right effect (try a few small samples), but bridal fabric works very well and will probably be less expensive.
A full review of the fabric ("Hollusion Material" from AtmosFearFX) I used for this projection is coming soon. Can't wait to see what this looks like outside!

+Ryan Hutchison "Phantasms" video is $40 and the official Hollusion material (the screen) is $50 at AtmosFearFX. The only other expense is the projector. However, you can download individual scenes for $10 each and you can get a decent screen at any fabric store for much cheaper.
what screen? I don't see a screen in this.
The image is projected onto a light transparent fabric that is almost invisible with this effect - I guess it worked!
Legalities aside, can you copy the dvd to an sd card or memory stick as my projector only has an sd card slot & usb plug. Is there any protection coding on the dvd ?
Not sure about copy protection, but your best option would be to just buy the digital downloads and then copy them onto an sd card...simple and perfectly legal:

I like having the actual DVD as backup and being able to copy it to digital. On atmosfx's site they give instructions to copy digital downloads to DVD but not the other way round. Seeing as most projectors don't have built in DVD players I like the thought of just plugging in a SD card or USB memory stick instead of a separate DVD player. I bought 4 Atmosfear kits last year from BJs after Halloween for $69 each and each came with SD cards with various scenes, even Christmas which was perfect timing. Now I just want 1 DVD that I can copy onto SD card so as to run different scenes on each projector. I think I'll take a gamble.
yes you can rip the dvd using any ripper software.
They sell it in an sd format as well.

It is facing the screen.
in Europe's market never sold Hollusion Material from AtmosFX. does anyone knows what kind of fabric is this? or something similar.
You should be able to get something similar in any fabric store. Just bring along a light of some sort (a phone flash would be fine) to test how well the material captures the light.

Ask for grey bridal tulle or mesh. You may need to experiment by bringing a flashlight to the store to see how it captures the light. More instructions here:

Everything is available at atmosfx.com. Closer to Halloween you can probably pick up the DVD in stores. The hollusion material only seems to be available online, but you could find a substitute in just about any fabric store.

Yes, it is a grey mesh. A bit stretchy.

this could be like 500 times better with 500 times less work if they just made it like you'd expect actual ghosts to appear/pass
Pretty cool but you're behind the projector. Most of us will need the viewer to be in front of it
Yes, sometimes a rear projection is necessary depending on your setup. Here is a video with the same projector, the same material, the same video, but with a rear projection. To me it looks just as good - what do you think?

I was HIGHLY Disappointed @ my purchase of this product. I ordered the vertical version and it downloaded as the horizontal version and the vertical version was only the creepy man in the hat. I felt I wasted my $$ and will not be fooled into purchasing from Atmos again. I said fooled because the advertising is totally different from the actual purchase.
I would totally lose it, omg. If you weren't expecting it, pee your pants Scary!
