The way that Doctor Neil took control of the situation was inspiring. No mucking around, calm respectful orders where needed, quickly field anesthetized, managed all the way to the Hospital like a true professional.

In all honesty. The biker was probably was out near instantly. Gcs of 3 isnt very good and the blown pupils indicate massive brain damage. The fact that hes fully recovered is unbelievable
My boy broke every bone in his leg ankle and foot. He rode home in shock ....later he told me his leg was flapping and clicking ( the broken pieces of bone) 2 years on he is still healing and has a long way to go. As his mother I'll never understand how he rode home in that state. Pain I think puts you into shock and then fight or flight mode.
This man is so lucky. He recovered from a brain injury. My uncle once fell off a 500 ft cliff, while trying to mountain climb and got a severe brain injury and was in a coma for 6 months. He can’t talk, and move his eyes properly now. So he’s basically blind, and one of his ears don’t work, and he lost all his memories. So sadly he didn’t recognize me at the hospital. But I’m glad he’s alive.
The emergency services are heart warming. Last June I saw a 21 yesr old lad hit a car at 70mph on a 125cc bike... bang! Streight in the side of a car in a 60mhp road. The emergency medical workers at all levels around me. They are direct and practical and swift, but polite and calm, providing exceptional care. But, this is a serious question: “unwell” indicates to me a case of strep throat and vomiting, not the life-threatening injuries this man had, how do you indicate the difference?
Context, I assume. It is a difference if you phone your boss saying you won't come to work tomorrow because you are unwell or if you have a critical care paramedic preparing drugs for emergency anesthesia at the roadsite saying the patient is unwell to the camera crew. Also, English understatement ;)
To be honest from watching UK ambulance shows I get the impression that the milder the language they use, the closer to death the patient. They seem to only say 'unwell' for incredibly serious situations.
They use these terms in touch and go situations...much nicer to hear the word unwell than alot of others..its almost like code speak...so the person on the other end knows but bystanders might not be fully aware of the gravity of the issues
