Living In Dominican Republic being Married | True Cost Of Living

  • I always use to say that I’m cheap, but in reality, I’m frugal. A Frugal Person is someone who gets what they need, doesn’t waste, and tries to get maximum enjoyment out of that thing. So, the reason I don’t have 30 pairs of shoes anymore, is because I don’t need them. The reason why we don’t go out to eat every single day is because it's healthier, cheaper and better to eat at home.

    1. Here are the Bills and How they Have Changed since I have gotten married
    - You’ll notice my bills are low ( because I live in the middle of nowhere in the Dominican Republic and I love it )
    - You’ll also notice the way I name things, is very precise
    Shelter Cost:
    - Before I got married, I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment, and I use the bedroom as a studio to make videos on TH-cam
    - This cost me about $152 dollars per month (and before you say, that’s so low, its all relative, incomes are not crazy high here either and you always have the option to migrate)
    - Now that I got married I spend about $152 per month, the only difference I now share a house with my wife lol (nothing changed)
    Utilities:
    - All my utilities stayed the same except two of them ( I still don’t pay for Light or Water )
    - But now my Gas bill has gone up, because my Wife cooks and before I didn’t cook anything lol
    - So I would say we spend $6 a month on Gas
    - $40 bucks on our phone bills
    - And $50 on the internet
    - I would say about $60 on subscriptions
    Transportation
    - Between Insurance, oil changes, and gas ( we spend about $150 bucks and that’s a lot )
    - Our car is paid off, it’s a 2017 Corolla and it's ours we don’t have a payment and we bought used
    Problem:
    - Two people need two cars and they need safe cars and to borrow money
    - And now you have $1000 per month on metal that breaks down
We Do Have some other cost:
    - Insurance for Health: we’ll be getting some ( that’ll be about $70 per month )
    - extra: $250 bucks
    - Fun: $200 per month
    2. What is the Total of all these Costs
    - Our base expenses to live is $758
    - Plus all the phone and insurance stuff: $1278 dollars for two people
People hear this and say, well that’s because you live where you live
    - No that’s not why
    - Its because we choice to live the way we live
    - There are people here that spend $4,000 a month (that’s a choice )
    3. Overall guys
    - My wife adds so much value to me that’s it not measurable
    - She came to this house and made a home
    - And I could save more money being alone, but for what to accumulate more money
    Advice
    - Marry someone who doesn’t want to be broke forever
    - Who knows self-control
    - And who knows how to listen

Congratulations on your marriage!!! My last full video that I had seen from you a while back was when you said you were leaving Puerto Rico, and I had been praying for you that you would be able to settle down with the right person. I'm super excited for you and your wife and look forward to seeing your new content, that's super lit. It was something about the way the Puerto Rico video went that made me think, I think there is someone special there, so I'm super blessed to see that my feeling was right. God bless your union and your family!!! We've been blessed from your videos, and I'm gonna get caught up on some of the new content. Thanks for all you do for others! :D

I like your channel and your content. It’s a real perspective on life in DR. But let me add this: people need to get to a place where they realize that spending money unnecessarily on eating out, drinking and partying doesn’t equate to a better life. When it comes down to it, it’s the simple things in life that bring happiness and joy. Things like swimming at a beautiful beach, fishing, cooking, hiking, visiting a river, enjoying a sunset, biking, rollerblading, visiting friends and family. I say all that to say you can live “minimalistic” and save a lot of money. Just because another country’s cost of living is cheaper doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot more to enjoy it. Therefore, you can live in DR and spend anywhere from $800-$1200 USD very easily. It just depends on how judicious you are with your finances. Spending money doesn’t mean happiness. This revelation typically comes with maturity, whatever the age you realize this.

Many believe one cannot live on a budget like yourself. However, it can be done.
It is being smart with your money.
People move to the Dominican Republic and still want to spend like they are still living in the United States. There are some people that still love spending like crazy wherever they are. Instead of saying "I will save that extra money" they say, "I have extra money to spend on something else."
Some people love bills and saying how much they spend.

With family property that is paid off for generations you really can save once you get out of the expensive cities. You are right you cannot have a frivolous spouse male or female. Completely agree, his mindset on the value of education is tragic and shocking. It's so regressive and if he chooses to home school the child, from the outset its cognitive development will just become as stunted as his own. The child will be cut off from all potential opportunities to become an intellectually, culturally and socially enriched individual that comes with the opportunities to fully experience all the curricular and extra-curricular activities offered both inside and outside school. His perspective on the value of being exposed to and learning about the sciences is also very regressive, particularly un the modern era. The fact is lack of scuentific understanding and Innovación is what keeps Black and African nations behind and dependent on the West. A fully rounded educational experience at all levels is what nurtures creative and critical inquiring minds that can enable individuals to appreciate life and the world in all it's dimensions and contribute to making it a better place. Good quality educational environments are also spaces where students meet and interact with others from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds that usually contribute to the positive development of a child and its chance to maximise its full potential in the company of intelligent and disciplined peers who also excel academically. Its so tragic that these black men with new money mentality who have not been exposed to these educational opportunities or have not excelled within education then limit the possibilities of their offspring because they don't know any better and can only understand education from a limited functional utilitarian perspective. In my view this us dulling for the mind and numbs and cages the soul. My parents just like most other Africans always emphasised that a good education is one of the most important priorities in the upbringing and development of their children. Even for the poorest in African communities a good education is what they prioritize and strive towards for their children with the objectives that their children must go to university.

It is ok to be frugal with clothes and materialistic things. But don’t be frugal with life experience like eating out. Kids needs good school and make friends . Home school is like being in prison at home. His life sounds boring

Nah, homeschool is the right choice especially when these schools are not teaching their kids life skills and skill sets like trades to make them more efficient like cooking, fixing cars, plumbing, etc. Its already been proven empirically that homeschoolers are just as social as public and private schoolers and have good school grading. Also I dont eat out either not even at restaurants. Cooking at home is more enjoyable.
