I don't have big projects but had use the drill with attached sanding disks (various grits and sizes) to sand down small metal parts and re-profile knife etc... I use wood clamps to hold down the drill onto work table, and another clamp to hold down the trigger so I can have various speed on my DeWalt corded drill (don't clamp too hard you can break the drill plastic housing, or cause the spining parts inside to grind on the housing itself).
