Nick Lidstrom one of the most loyal and humble players and leaders of the game of hockey. He was a great teammate and great role-model for 20 years. Retiring under your own terms is something that isn't an easy thing to do and most people can't do. They wait until the game walks away from them. Nick will be missed by the game of hockey. I have been watching you for 17 years and I remember watching all 4 of your championships. Thank you for all you did as a Red Wing! Red Wing fan for life, bitte

Canucks fan over here. Nick was one of the most classiest players in the game. It'll be hard to find somebody so skilled and classy at the same time. #5 will be missed.

Congratulations to Nicklas and his family. What a great career and what a player he was. I consider him as the best defenseman of all-time and i doubt his abilities from the blueline will ever be matched. As a Penguins fan it was an honor to watch him play.

Our Red Wings that were so damn good back in the late 90s are now all gone. No more Yzerman, Shanahan, Fedorov, McCarty, Maltby, Draper, Murphy, Koslov, Osgood, Kostantinov and now Lidstrom. Face it fellow Wing Fans, It'll be a long time before we see a team with that much talent again. Cause I believe that if you put these guys compare to the 80s Oilers... Indeed I would give anything to see the Bowman era Red Wings go up against the Gretsky Oilers.

Nucks fan here, but its a sad day to see a player like Lidstrom retire. Hope i don't see Alfy and Marty Brodeur hold this type of conference.

Dude everyone said the same thing when federov retired, same when yserman did. Now the Wings have 37.3 mil cap space open, they can get who ever they want!
