I absolutely love your videos, my grandma who is no longer here use to make the most beautiful quilts and yours remind me so much of hers..thank you for these videos I am 52 and hope to make at least 1 quilt I have to get a new sewing machine first I only have a small one some day I will be able to get one I pray..once again your work is beautiful.
Celebrating you, Jenny Doan, on International Women's Day!!! You are a true inspiration for women everywhere!!! Thanks for all the great instruction you provide us!!! God bless you!!!
I noticed these rugs a couple of days ago when I got the email from MSQC! Reminds me of the wool rugs a friend of my mothers used to make! Difference is, she sewed them by hand with *VERY* thick thread!! Thanks Jenny!!
Those rugs were done by braiding three stripes of fabric together. They were done completely by hand and many of them used left over scraps and good parts of old clothing. I made a small one when I was young and have thought about making one from old jeans for my kitchen. They were comfortable to stand on.
Today is Sunday May 23, 2021...haven't done any sewing for several years but want to get back into it and want to make a rug. Have been tryig endlessly to figure out how to cut my own jelly roll so I could get RJ's rug in separate colors with NO HELP ANYWHERE UNTIL YOU just mentioned what I suspected, do one color at a time...so now, I'm going to start making my own strips not to mention, I'm fascinated with YOUR professionalism...thank you if you check out the comments sometime...
You are the best!!!! I could watch you all day and I WILL learn something from watching. I can't tell you enough how great it is to follow you cause I am left handed!!! Bless you Ma'am!
Thank you Genny! My Granddaughter loves when i make her rugs ! And im going to make my Son a camo one ! So easy !!your a great teacher and a very nice peron!😊😂❤
I just love the way you give instructions. I can follow them and I go back again and again to check something if I'm not clear on how to do something. Thanks so much.
Thank you! Thank you! I have extra fabric left over from a quilt I made for my sister's birthday (in March). Now I can make her a rug to match for Christmas...Lol
Great tutorial! I think I will put the batting in a bowl with a wooden spoon handle through the roll of batting and keep it on the floor next to the machine. I can not wait to try this!
I've been working on one of these since early January. I'm still not finished with it for a couple of reasons. First of all it's the project I work on when I need a break from the regular sewing job I do every year for a friend. I work on his project for about 2 hours at a time, then I need to stand up and walk around and that's when I work on my rug. Also, I do all my sewing up on the 2nd floor our barn which is heated with kerosene heaters. It's been way too cold to even try to get the barn up to a comfortable temperature for me to work. And now I have the cat that showed up in our garage and had at least 5 kittens before I even knew she was there! If I didn't have all the other things going on, I probably could have made 3 rugs! I love them!
The cool thing about the Kaffe is that it reads as blue and purple when you view it, but you could pull out pinks, greens from it to use in the rest of the room as well. The rainbow one is quite modern and would suit a completely different space. Thanks for the vid
Thank you for the tutorial Jenny. Something that can be important for those who don't have a set in machine or perhaps even if you do is to take out from under the needle and iron after 2 or 3 rounds. Set your iron to the highest setting your fabric will take and iron the heck out of it. This will avoid any rolling in that can and did happen to me. If you think you have ironed too much iron a bit more. Because the pattern is protected you should support the pattern designer and purchase, there are specific starting measurements and more tips included. I LOVE mine and will make more. It is mindless and relaxing sewing that is welcomed.
Great job, Jenny! These can be tricky and your tip on how to start the strip was great. I never though of sewing down to the tapered end. For those who are complaining about what she didn’t show how to do this pattern is proprietary and she can’t show everything or no one would buy the pattern. I have made several and the pattern does have a few things you need to know.
Beautiful!! I’d like to get up the nerve to make the round one for my bathroom in black, red , white and gray !!! That would be so cool !! Thanks for the tutorial !!
Thank you Jenny .. I just love your tutorials.. I have learned so much from you in the past few years.. I never get enough of your tutorials. Please keep doing them.
My class made this rug and there were a lot of problems keeping it flat. Lots ended up piling books and magazines so the rug wasn't 'falling' but kept flat. You can even do half a jelly roll and sew it straight (meaning instead of going around just join it in lengths of straight strips) and turn it into a bag!
I've seen other videos where they actually tell viewers to get out all their sewing boojs and stack them aroubd their machines. I've tried twice to make ine of these, used the 'steam till cery damp' methid but have not been successful. I'm not wasting my fabrics to try another oval or round one. Instead, I'm making rectangular ones out of strips and putting binding around the rectangles on all sides.
Thanks for doing this tutorial video Jenny... You are right, even with the pattern, it's tough to see what you're meant to be doing. But with the visual tips, it's crystal clear. I think I know what my Mom is getting for her birthday this year from me! :-)

I get so much from watching you every week! Thank you for sharing sooooo much loveliness. But this video did suffer in the editing, as mentioned by other viewers.
I'm kind of sad that part of the video was taken out. Fortunately I remember how you started it from the first time I watched it when it originally was posted.
Especially because the pattern is not very clear with the steps on how to fold and start the long strips with the batting. The way I did it worked, but so many of these tutorials are unable to show clear steps because of the pattern copyright, I think. I wish I lived closer to my mother or grandmother so they could show me clear steps for free! They never needed a pattern 🥰
@@vickyls8132 It's a plastic tool a bit like a belt buckle that you slide the strip through. It folds in the two sides and holds them so you fold the strip in half again and hold that part as you stitch it. You slide it down the long, long strip about 6 inches at a time at the machine as sew.
These patterns are way too expensive, over $18 of you want both. Really intricate quilt patterns sell for $5. I don't understand how RJ Designs can justify this price for such a simple design.
Ha ha. They charge whatever the market will bear! They dont demo their design but have others doing vids while not allowing the presenters give out ALL the instructions bc they want you to buy the pattern to get it right. Pretty clever, huh? Considering the materials, I'd wash it the same way I would any of my quilts. Cold water, gentle cycle. And either delicate, low-heat dry, or line dry.
@@HosCreates A large work surface helps. If you're sewing in the right direction, all of your 'work' should end up on the outside, not bunched up under your machine. That should help. I'm pretty sure Jenny said to complete the end-to-end sewing of the jelly roll, then lay on the batting. The batting was 25 yards and I think the jelly roll was the same.
No daft question at all Wendy - you're right Jenny said to first complete the jelly roll sewing and lay the batting into the strip and sew and sew and sew....have fun !

WOW So much easier than by hand. These would be great for in front of the sink, the bath tub or shower, and beside the bed. But ... just for fun ... and while it is good and clean ... drape it over the top bed on a bunk bed, a desk or sturdy table and let the kids use it as a tent. If you have a dog that is house broken and does not like to dig in the dirt ... it would make a great bed for them. (So now you know I love kids and animals.) Oh, be sure to send it out to be cleaned ... to much for home washers. ;)

(So now you know I love kids and animals.) Oh, be sure to send it out to be cleaned ... to much for home washers. ;)
do you have your own on line store where all quilting supplies can be bought?
