The bears should of won a couple of super bowls.charles martin slammed mcmahon in 86 that was terrible.that was the end of a good qb in chicago with that great defense.in 88 tomszack won in the fog bowl but was benched to give mcmahon the start against the 9ers.that was a mistake by ditka.but i see what ditka was thinking.mcmahon had a great record at soldier field when starting a game.but that was a big mistake he couldnt throw past 30 yards.and all passes went to the right.nothing to the left.a bunch of what ifs for my bears.we did get 1 though.

@@scottyblog ... Well, maybe. I mean the stats were pretty obvious in that when Mac was there then they won, but you can never say for sure. In today's game you would maybe see a healthier Mac. Better care, in the medical sense, but the rules now would have protected him. Jim was a target for every cheap shot rusher in the league. They hated his style and popularity, and they went after his career over it

His 1986 season was unbelievable. His AV (approximate value) in '86 was 23, which places him in a tie for 4th highest AV in NFL History. On the defensive side, only Aaron Donald (2020) 24 & Carl Eller (1970) 24 have a higher value than Wilber Marshall's '86 season.
In 1986, Marshall made his 1st of 3 Pro Bowls and was named 1st team All-Pro. Marshall had 5½ sacks, 105 tackles, five interceptions, four forced fumbles, three recoveries and 2 TD's (1TD FF/ 1TD Int).

I definitely think they repeat in 1986, had McMahon stayed healthy.
But Chicago's window closed for good in 1987.
They had Washington beat in the 87 playoffs, and let them off the hook.
The McMahon magic was gone, and the 1988 49ers finally made them disappear.
The 80's Bears died on that cold and windy Chicago day in January of 1989.

Ok so check THIS out! My highschool football coach played in the NFL. He was a Center for the K.C. Chiefs. In practice I once asked him if he'd ever played against the Bears and he said, "yes". I asked him how good Dan Hampton was? He said, "Oh Hampton was a crybaby! McMichael was thier best lineman!" Now Dan Hampton is my childhood idol, so I kinda blew off his remark, but it DID kinda stick with me. I watched this game and the Center that Hampton pushed back and blocked that FG was my old coach Tommy Baugh #58! Lmfaooooooooofffff!!!!! "Crybaby" huh? He punked the sh*t outta my old coach! Maybe he still heald a grudge.....I mean after all. Dan Hampton went on to the pro football Hall Of Fame, whereas Tommy Baugh went on to have Derrick Thomas make his #58 relevant in K.C. & coached Highschool football and shop class! Lol.

But now its up to the home team to choose between Fox, or CBS. Fox seems to carry more games. I have noticed AFC vs NFC road games are definitely on Fox.

Urlacher & Briggs wore the same helmets their whole careers and those were the same ones we played with in the 1980's & 90's. They aren't vegetables now! Lol. I swear! Bears started out well, but I was never sold on Tobin and his defense. After a division clinching win against Minnesota (where McMahon got hurt again), the defense was exposed by a humiliating Monday night loss to San Francisco 41-0 (I remember this game...blowout loss, snowstorm, and a snowdrift tore off my muffler when I was trying to get home from work. Seattle hung 34 points the next week. For the season finale, Ditka decided to play some of the veterans he had sat down. Defense responded, but the offense was non-existent against Oakland. Ditka decided to start a rusty McMahon in the playoffs against Washington (the eventual Super Bowl winner, when Doug Williams had the game of his life!!). Game started out well, but then Washington shut down the Bears, and the Redskins won 21-17. This would be the final game for Walter Payton and Gary Fencik
