If he had picked the hearth @ 45:38, he could have taken 1 more hit at the end and complete the game.

Even though he doesn't hold the WR, JKoper I find to be the best player. What bit him in the ass this run is skipping that one heart container he was right next to and decided he didn't need it. He had 4 hearts left the first time Gannon killed him. That extra woulda came in handy, especially when he already hit him that many times.
the first door in dungeon 1 opens after entering the dungeon for a second time because it was designed with the thought that "if someone can't find the key, we don't want them to stop playing, so if they leave and come back the door will be open"
its a bug from entering and exiting in cerrtain directions. it can be reproduced in multiple other areas in the game

Truly amazing. The best I've ever done is with the wooden sword. Alot of the tricks he used I knew but I did learn some new stuff.

Was kinda hoping for a better description of the mechanics behind the screen clipping strat.
We got a lot of "in case you didn't know, rupees are arrows in this game" but not much explanation of the glitches :-p

Jake Hennett 5 pixels between your shield and the edge of the screen, press down for 1 frame, link should turn 180 degrees without moving in any direction, walk off the edge of the screen.
A sword use is a sword use. You can't just say it's only half.
A Corn well, actually if you HOLD the A button when you get the sword, it will count as HALF a sword use and we need A LOT OF SPEED.

This is an asinine comment. In this game, you HAVE to use the sword on Ganon. There is no such thing as a 100% swordless run, only ~99.9%. In other words, this is as swordless as it gets, and those who know the game know what a "swordless" Zelda run means. Use some common sense, bud. Do you think you're dropping some major revelation on us, particularly those who know the game backwards and forwards? SMH...
If only I could get a hold of the original 6502 code in order to substantiate the theories on the LVL1 re-enter unlock. I have always suspected it involved limited persistent storage.

Getting to Ganon without the sword was the hard part...Should've just finished it.

Yeah you need a sword to beat Ganon. The better sword, the less hits are needed.
So swordless speedruns always stops the timer at Ganon's room. Ganon's room is the final goal.
The person explaining the screen glitch is doing a very bad introduction of it.
If the crowd had given him serious time and stayed quiet he would've easily killed Ganon

I think the strategy he was using to strike Ganon repeatedly like that was timed based on sound.
There is more than a counter for bombs and faeries. You can predict the entire drop series of items in this game. In fact I did it once just to pretend I was psychic and freak out a friend. It was hilarious. You can find the algorithm online.

Man even non speed runners like me can get good tips based on game mechanics out of these though. What's this about drop counters based on defeated enemies? That's very useful info!

From my experience there is a much easier way to kill Gannon if you go to the far right side and then just go constantly up and down I always seemed to kill him very quickly. Also makes it easier to avoid getting shot by the statues also.
i thought the only way to kill the final boss was with the blue arrow, i thought the sword just made him pop up so you can see him

He died at Gannon. Hardy pointless ... don't get me wrong - he's amazing, but it's hard to call it pointless when it would have made all the difference.
I wonder how many total hours of gameplay this guy has done in his entire life!

I'm confused on why they got the wooden sword. if you enter ganon's room without a sword the game just gives you the magic sword..

If made it to ganon with no sword, but it took me about 7 hours.
He hit Ganon 13 times with the wooden sword, 3 hits away wasn't it? D:
(magic sword takes 4 hits and does 4x more damage than the wooden sword)

That would make it 12 hits, so Ganon should've been dead according to your data.
I meant it takes 4 hits to make Ganon red.

Someone in the couch actually said it takes 16 hits with the wooden sword.
I originally didn't see this as swordless in the search, so I was going to berate it for being so slow. XD

I managed the Block Scroll, but still cannot pull off the screen scroll ^_^
+seth2111 well some tricks are pixel perfect and you cant just get into the game and become a speedrunner in a week or so :P ^^
+seth2111 I had trouble with the screen scroll for a while as well. Different TVs/screens are different in how many pixels are away form the edge in your view. You have to play with it on your screen to see how to get to the 5th pixel from the edge (for example, the left side of my TV is similar to the spacing seen in this run, but the right side of my TV I have to get almost to the edge of the screen because of my TV settings). It just takes practice but you can do it.

Why is he killing Ganon if in swordless they don't kill Ganon?
You can't beat the game without using the sword. And no one there wanted to see him get to the final boss and quit

Fun Fact had you made it to gannon without a sword, the game automatically gives you the magical sword.
Ill chalk it up to a glitch then on hte persons game i saw it happen on either that or very smooth video editing XD

LMAO!!!!! There really is no "trick" to fighting Ganon, but... Somehow I managed ta hit him over and over in 1 spot till he croaked...
should've just gotten the magic sword for Ganon then you would've killed him. If it's a sword less run anyways and you just want the crowd and viewers to see Ganon die get the best one.
Admittedly disappointed that he didn't actually beat Gannon thought the game is hard enough with the sword.
I bought a cartridge a while back that had a save on it where they had nearly all items and nearly all the hearts. I won't let my kids play that character. I tell them they gotta learn the hard way like I did, lol. ;)

Swordless means very little use of the sword. it does not say no sword as you can never beat the game.

Why didn't he use them? Was the point just to show off?
Ganon only takes damage while invisible from a sword, nothing else works.. Silver arrows are required for the last hit only, all other hits require one of the swords.
Yes you need a sword to kill him. That's why most swordless speed runs call time when you enter his room.
