    After our flat on our RV in Montana, many of you reached out and asked us to put together a video about emergency tools and equipment for RVers. We not only discuss RV tools and equipment, but we also discuss RV Emergency Roadside Service programs, dash cams for RVers, and RV TPMS equipment. This video goes well beyond the basic tools necessary for an RV trip.

    ST.TRV, THIS WAS A WONDERFUL VIDEO, ONLY ONE THING I could add, is those AMBER, LED LIGHT PUCKS ESPECIALLY FOR LOW LIGHTS, THEY ALSO ARE MAGNETIC THEY ROTATE/BLIINK, THEY ALSO WILL FIT ONTO TOP OF YOUR CONES, ALSO A’LIGHTBAR; BRAND HEAD LIGHT, MUCH BETTER THAN THE BULKY ONES WITH THOSE HEAVY BATTERIES,
    I CARRY MANY TIRE VALVES, CAPS AND A GREAT 12V INFLATOR, CAPABLE OF FARM TRACTOR INFLATION, AN ELECTRIC JACK, AND 12 VOLT LUG WRENCH,
    YOUR INFO WILL HELP LOTS OF PEOPLE, SO THANKS FOR THAT, MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE A SPARE, JUST A CAN, OF STUFF, BUT DOES NOTHING FOR SIDEWALL DAMAGE !

    What I have found to be very convenient is to install a sensor on the spare tire. That way you always know the spare is ready without climbing under the RV to check it's pressure.

    I have one bit of advise. Make sure that periodically, you lower and raise your spair on a pick up or RV, to be sure that it is not rusted and place. And use some kind of a spray lubricant on it. This is even more important in states that bathe the roads in salt in the winter, like here in NH. I spent 26 years as a Chevy service advisor and had many an upset customer, because they towed in a truck because the spare tire would not come down out on the road somewhere.

    I found this very interesting. I am going to recommend to my sister that she and her husband watch it. They have never gone on a long trip in their RV. Usually, it's just my sister and I that camp in it. The guys get us to our destination, help get it set up and then go back home. When it's time for us to go home they come back and get us and the RV. They are sort of talking of going more themselves in the RV. He is looking at a Jeep so they can pull it behind the 29 ft.(I think that's the length) RV. He is in a wheelchair and doesn't let his handicap stop him with most things. He probably has many of the tools you mentioned because he rebuilt old cars for many years. I think there are many things you mentioned that they might not think about like the roadside assistance, dash cam, etc. I am going to recommend they both sit down and watch this video. Thank you!

    Me being a retired electrician and maintenance tech, I have and take each trip we go on my tool bag, and keep on the truck the "trailer aid" which I didn't have when the tire went last! Much like you, our tire blow out happened right at an exit and a rest stop!! As I was getting the tools out (impact too) I had a couple of "truckers" come over and helped change the tire!! But I do carry a 12 ton bottle jack, torque wrench, sockets, safety triangles, and the safety vest and maybe a few other things/items that go to our trailer!! Oh, I almost forgot, ratchet straps!! Thanks for taking the time to share what you have for tools and recommendations. No tire pressure monitor yet, but Check them when cool out and the sun hasn't gotten to them yet, and I also check the torque of the lug nuts each trip! Thanks again!!

    Put a air connector on a air tank on the truck and carry a 50 ft hose

    • @SuiteTravels
      @SuiteTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do that Michael, but the trailer tires are 125 psi, so it's hard to get the truck compressor to fill them as it drains. That's why we carry the portable compressor.

    You also have built-in air on your truck. If you haven't already, you can tap into the trucks air tank and have a connector at the back of the truck next to the hitch. You can run an impact wrench off of it, air your tires and other thinks. If you have the gladhands at the back of the truck, you can buy an air hose at almost any truck stop that comes with the gladhand.

    • @SuiteTravels
      @SuiteTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Grady. We actually do have the connection on the back of the truck, but the trailer tires run at 125 psi, so it's almost impossible to use it for the trailer tires.

    Jim great video as always. A couple thoughts to add on. Carry a spare trailer tire and rim. Or more than one, having had a tire take out the one behind the first one. Also consider a all position spare for the HDT. Add a roll of Gaffers tape to the duct tape. Having worked in the media environment for years, the gaffers tape is slightly more expensive than duct tape and sticks to almost everything better and is stronger too. Nothing wrong with duct tape. Thanks for the review on tpms systems. When we bought our HDT, we drove home on older tires. we had a rear inner go down on us and except for some light vibration we didn't notice it until the fuel stop when I did a check. Imagine had we had the full pin weight of the rig on the HDT. It could have been ugly. The camera system is so helpful with all the crazy people who like to try and brake check a semi. Nothing beats the camera view that you can show the officer of the car pulling over in front of you and then slamming on the brakes.

    Very good information!! We carry everything you showed except for the dashcam and the tire sensor. I'm very grateful that my hubby is OCD like you. He's always checking everything outside before we hit the road!! We were told to torque the 5th wheel lug nuts every 500 miles. There's been a few times they've loose. Thanks so much for this good info!! Safe travels...💜

    Thanks for taking the time to put this video together and post it. I'm sure this will help many
    People who are just starting out. I carry spare fluids as well, anti freeze, motor oil, power steering fluid and windshield washer. I know they are not tools but if you ever need some you will wish ya had it
    I also carry bulbs, wire, several guages and the wire strippers and several different crimp connectors.
    When I had my semis I always used the commercial lines to air up tires and run air tools...ya need some hose but it worked well..just an idea or maybe a back up.
    I'm sure ya got a good grease gun as well....and a spare tube or 2 of grease.
    Us old farm boys would carry the whole driving shed, if we could...😄😄😄 !!

    Have a 36 ft class A. I have a plug kit, big compressor. Not going to jack up a class A. Have no spare. Big 22.5 tires. I just keep good and new tires, also TPMS. Have separate policy. A lug wrench is a joke. You need service!

    Good info. Another thing to review is: What will your RV 'Roadside Assistance' actually cover? Five hours after calling them because our engine stopped we were told that they could not find anyone to tow our RV from the Interstate shoulder (3 lanes of 70 MPH traffic). We would have to stay on the Interstate shoulder over night. Know what is covered (or not covered).

    Hi Jim and Kelley. My wife and I have enjoyed your channel for several years. This is our first post. What are the brand of tires your run on the trailer?

      Welcome to the comments and thanks for coming along! Our tires are the Goodyear G-114.

    Can you get conversions to 235 x 19.5 continental on Alcoa ?
    Taller tyres do really run cooler, have higher speed-verses-load ratings,
    and also cope much better with "Steps" in the pavement (i.e. potholes).
    Different countries and different sates, have different height rules
    (the world (outside of USA) appears to be moving toward 4.3 metres height).
    Much of Europe is, currently, still at 4 metres max height.
    Taller wheels & tyres equate to taller trailers.
    Air, over-rubber-torsion independent suspension, hybrid (combined) suspension systems
    (these are better than rubber-independent-torsion suspensions alone !!)
    tend ALSO to be inches taller than standard.

      Not sure Snow....but our 17.5 tires seem to work pretty well. Over 8 years with this style and we'd never go back to 15" or 16" tires.

    Jim, I also carry regular 30 minute road flares. Plus the new Electronic flashing flares for night time.
    I also have a kinetic rope with us. Never know when I need the little extra pull to get out of some where. Check out Matt's of Road Recovery on TH-cam and you will see what they pull out with them.
    Just ordered the fifth wheel hitch and found a bed for the truck. One step at a time.
    Safe travels and roads Brian and Cindy, "xtreambydesign with passion"

      We usually travel at 65 mph Carey....unless we're in Texas on the FM roads that have 80 mph speed limit - then we do 55!

    That was a great video..
    Thanks so much..
    I was curious that you didn't use air from your truck compressor instead of carrying around the little compressor...
    I have a bed being built for my kenworth t680 as we speak..
    When i get it back I'll be using your video to tool up...

      Glad you enjoyed it Dennis. Congratulations on your new bed. Our trailer tires inflate to 125 psi, so the truck's compressor can't keep up. That's why we carry the 12V compressor.

    We had Tire Minder, the false alarms got so bad and I got so mad with it, after the last false alarm I took the monitor, placed under the front tire of the coach and ran over it 😡.
    We have used TST tire monitor for 3 years now with NO false Alarms , yes None

    I still would like to know what happened to your tire I have the same tires on my drv I've had to replace the two fronts because of flat spots. If there are issues with these tires I'm getting rid of them

    • @SuiteTravels
      @SuiteTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We ran them on our previous DRV for 4 years and had one wear funny, but it was an alignment issue. We're going to run these until they age out. The flat we had was a tread separation issue and Goodyear replaced it.
