The Canadian media is reacting with the usual indignation and bluster. But they should be concerned. This is very unusual behavior from Xi. He held bilateral meetings with President Biden and Australian PM Anthony Albanese on the same day. And was extremely polite to both. This means he deliberately saved all his scorn for Trudeau.
Canadian Media is doing the sugar coating saying Trudeau was fine in this exchange.
All international media was knocking on Trudeau, as Trudeau body language showed.
It's nothing. Xi Jinping is a very experienced national leader. He will not let his emotions affect national affairs. Yes, he was personally unhappy. But this will not affect the relationship between China and Canada. Actually he also gave Trudeau some advice on the possibility of the next conversation.

There is some background to this story. Given that Canada and China did not have an official meeting at the G20, Justin Trudeau managed to have a discreet conversation with Xi in a corridor. Xi courteously responded to Trudeau's question, and Trudeau subsequently relayed Xi's response to the Canadian media.
Xi viewed his response as a personal viewpoint rather than an official Chinese stance. He simply provided Trudeau with a friendly answer instead of ignoring him. This is why Xi is displeased with Trudeau presenting his personal response as China's official position on the matter.

Respect and manners are important in ancient societies and Trudeau was being disrespectful. Xi complained about the leaks and that their conversations were misrepresented (he has a point). Instead of acknowledging and empathizing, Trudeau displayed a very arrogant and bureaucratic answer which further upset Xi and by walking away and shaking hand xi told Trudeau to go away. Trudeau is not just arrogant he thinks he represent goodness and that is so naive for a leader and diplomat. Imagine if he had put his hand on Xi pulls him closer pretend to listen instead of boblling his head, had shown alarm at Xi concerns and said that leaking is always a bad idea how things would havebeen different and how much better Canada would have faired. Xi is right. He is naive. I am a nobody and i would have performed better.

The only perfect score I received in education was for a course in business school called Cross Cultural Analysis (CCA). It's painfully obvious how certain leaders were never taught this subject. As a president or prime minister you can get almost anything you want, strike any deal no matter how complicated, IF you just learn how to communicate with people from other cultures.
