Xi's words to Trudeau indicate 'degree of disdain': former diplomat

  • The language that Chinese President Xi Jinping used to scold Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G20 summit in Indonesia was surprising, says Charles Burton, senior fellow with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and a former diplomat to China. 'He certainly wouldn't speak like that to the U.S. president,' he said.

    What really got Xi upset was Trudeau made things up about the brief private conversation he had with Xi the previous day. He added a lot of things that were not said/mentioned during the conversation. It was only 10 minutes chat , with translation, each person got like 2 minutes to say something but when he "leaked" this made up conversation to the press, he made it appear to be a 20 minute dressing down speech of Xi. He basically lied about the content of the conversation and used the lie to make himself "look good" for "standing up to China". What a joke as a leader. Any other country's leader would also be pissed off if someone did this to them.

      1.If you still think Trudeau’s leaking is a staab in the back, then Xi’s act is even worse. That’s a deliberate political show by intimidating and catching Trudeau completely unguarded. If Xi really thought leaking private conversation is unacceptable, he should have avoided every camera and every news reporter when he talked to Trudeau!
      2. Xi is a ruthless diictator. In Oct’s CCP 20th National congress meeting, he showed no mercy but had the former party leader dragged and forced to leave the meeting by secret service, only because he wanted to open his own file folder and to express opinion. Xi let him removed from seat in front of hundreds of news reporters, and didn’t even bother to stand up to say some nice things, because that was the last day of the meeting when he got re-elected and nobody can challenge his power afterwards. So don’t be naive any more! Look at the true consequence when Xi is upset.

Do you think it is real? That's why Xi said our talk yesterday wasn't happened like what you said.

    00:50 quote "we should have conversations in a respectful way otherwise the result can't be predicted." It amazes me that someone could read threat or disdain from this simple sentence. To me it simply means if we don't talk to each other respectfully, good communication won't happen.(See below for Xi's unedited quote) Simple as that. Why the Canadians don't get it and relentlessly try to put words into Xi's mouth?
    If the short clip makes one think that the Canadian prime minister is pathetic, then the above CBC new production will convince you that the entire nation or at least the CBC crew is sick. What's crystal clear to the rest of the world simply puzzles Canadians. For example, this Charles guy can would read something out of nowhere and speculate to claim disdain and threat from Xi's plain words.
    If you carefully watch the clip that CBC provided you will notice parts of the original clip where Xi's words in Mandarin are edited out at least twice. Then they put the English translation of one of the missing parts at the end of the clip, incomplete again, using an ellipsis to omit important information. (See below for Xi's unedited quote)
    I happened to have seen the original clip elsewhere and the following is my own interpretation:
    _{Previously, (mocked, Xi trying to create favorable conditions for renewed relationship) Xi: Let's have a private deal favorite to you on your terms but keep it off limit from Uncle Sam._
    _Trudeau (To the loudspeaker of an American journalist): Hey, everyone, China is trying to bribe me! }_
    Xi: Everything we talked about is leaked to the papers, that's not appropriate. And what you told the press is not exactly what had happened.
    Xi: “ If there is sincerity on your part, we could have good communication with mutual respect. otherwise, the result is not easy to predict. “;
    Trudeau: starts to preach political correctness of transparency (aka I'm going to sell you out every time you are sincere) but the trust (condition) is gone...
    Xi: “Create conditions, create conditions.” (Turning to his interpreter): Naive! (Guy is a political debutante)
    Every Chinese watching this video is going to say to themselves: never trust the Canadians.

If Xi really thought leaking private conversation is unacceptable, he should have avoided every camera and every news reporter when he talked to Trudeau!
      2. Xi is a ruthless dictator. He is correct about that. The reinsertion of a UK that cannot even begin properly manage its relationship with its own very near neighbours into the Pacific, where, to almost everyone, it’s economic and military relevance is roughly on a par with the Netherlands, was dreadful for Canada. Dreadful.

    Xi: "We should have conversations in a respectul way...". That"s Statesperson 101 for you, Trudeau. Also, primed "minister" Trudeau's face versus Xi"s at 0:44+ handshake scene (play it in slow motion for best results) says it all as far as confrontational naivety goes. It goes without saying that Canada's representative is making a mockery of itself -- and Canada -- during international gatherings of the sort, and for as long as the acting canadian protagonist's script and behavior doesn't change for the better.

    • @animdan
      @animdan ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nsevv You have it all wrong. Xi is admonishing Trudeau, not the contrary. The relevant exposed issue, also revealed by Tian Wong (see below), demonstrates that "The original conversation was off the record and therefore not recorded. However, in the video where Xi scolded JT, Xi said to him I quote the translator: That's not the way, how the conversation was conducted. [sic] around 10 seconds in and notice how JT was clearly squirming inside and doesn't even deny the fact that it wasn't the way their conversation went."
      So Xi also reminded Trudeau basically how to conduct one's self, as Marie Anton also emphasizes below:Xi "is saying Trudeau's side is not respectful to the confidential nature of diplomacy and lied to media".
      Hope this helps.

    And we don't need any more misunderstanding and mispresentation to worsen the Canada - China relationship. It's simple, Xi was not happy with the fact that some parts of his previous private talk with Trudeau were leaked by Trudeau to the media. He complained about it to Trudeau. You can see it was with a smile although he was not happy, it's nothing about humiliation.
