This code normally does not change the way the car drives for the most part. Most people need it fixed to pass inspections. If it was my car, I would have just drove it with the code in it.
It won’t pass a smog check in California with this code. I’m replacing the solenoid. I didn’t know about a recall that would cause the same code. I have taken the car to get the codes but the part you replaced doesn’t show only the solenoid.
I bought the speedometer drive gear using the part number you provided from toyota and I power probed the torque solenoid. I replaced 1 solenoid that was a short in it. I still had a code then replaced the speedometer drive gear with the one you provided and the code cleared and then it passed smog. Thank you for your video and advice. You helped us a lot
i have this code right now. except, when it first threw the code, the transmission began making a deep humming sound that has never gone away. shifts like a dream still, wouldn't think anything was wrong with the transmission besides the constant deep hum upon acceleration in drive only. no idea where to start. originally two years ago i drained the black fluid at like 280-290k miles and i assume it has not been touched since it was first manufactured. no idea how to approach this. tips? advice? thanks.
I would first start off trying to find someone who may have a bi-directional scanner so you can view live data and see if you can turn the solenoid off and on. Then if that looks good, I would start checking signal and power to the solenoid to make sure it was getting correct information from the computer.
It is not a recall but rather a TSB (technical service bulletin). It goes through the steps in order to fix the issue. You can actually google search P0741 Toyota Corolla TSB and it should show you the tsb.
The recall has a few steps to it. It says try the speedometer gear, a new solenoid, and then if that does not work to swap the transmission and torque converter.
I have been seeing this error for a couple of years now. Is there a way that I can get this fixed in a toyota dealership without costing an arm and a leg? :P
They will probably go through the same procedures that I did in this series of videos. I tried multiple things to correct it and did not get any resolve until the customer changed the entire transmission assembly. This was a recall/tsb at one time but I think it will not go through now due to the age of the vehicles.
Daaamn i really dont want to replace the trans on mine. Code pops up very little but i am starting to get worried. Still haven't done a trans fluid change but its due now. Hope that'll solve it but I don't have high hopes seeing your video and comments here 😅 what are the symptoms of that code?
So, most of time I do not see a difference in how the vehicle drives when this code pops up. If anything, you may not feel it engage lock up. That is about the only thing you will probably notice.
Toyota issued the recall after so many of the cars has the issue with the code. They showed a step by step procedure of what to change and if those did not fix it then you needed to replace the entire transmission.

If you get a used transmission, there really is no way to knowing if it will do the same or not but most salvage yards give at least a 30 day warranty.
@@operationoverhaulthis code shows up once in awhile on my 2005 Corrolls but it drives great. Recently got a new battery, spark plugs, tires, new Sepertine Belt; in 2021 I got a Trans Filter and Flush
@AndruWProWrestling on this car I was even able to verify that the tcc was going on and off but it was still throwing the code. Was a pretty common issue if they issued a tsb on it.
I think it has been revised into a TSB at this point due to the age of the recall. It varies state to state sometimes on these recalls as well because of emissions testing in each state. Where i live we have no inspections on cars, so I know that it is a tsb here.
My 05 Corolla has had the 741 code for 150k miles. Still Rolla'ing along and just hit the 310k mark today.

Do you have a link or something to the actual recall statement from Toyota?
I think it has been converted to a TSB now but the number that pertains to the TSB is TC008-04.
Is that speedometer gear compatible with the A245E transmission
When I looked up the part number, it actually says it is compatible with that transmission.
Yeah I’m gonna try that gear and hope it works thanks for the help

Is this code belongs to gear box, is not repairable without downing gear box?
The recall has a few steps to it. It says try the speedometer gear, a new solenoid, and then if that does not work to swap the transmission and torque converter.
Is it covered by the manufacturer?

Did the car coma back??
The car did come back as the culprit was the torque converter. But, before it got changed the owner wrecked it.
