Packing for 2 weeks in Japan in Just a Backpack and Purse

  • The best part of this was the look on Customs face when: “maam, you need to get your suitcase before coming here.” “This is all of my luggage.” “WHAT?!…uh…please go on ahead.”
    Want to pack lightly on your trip to Japan so you can get through customs quickly, not have to ship your luggage, and easily store your stuff in coin lockers so you can walk around lightly the entire day? Watch this to get a feel for what you actually need to bring with you, and how to get it all to fit in 2 bags!
    I forgot to show it in the video, but naturally, you've gotta bring a passport and keep it on your person - the velcro pouch in my purse is where I keep it, because I'm terrified of losing it.

    I love that you mentioned that you do laundry in your trip. I have the feeling that some people seem to forget that sinks or washing machines exist when they go on a trip. They go somewhere for a week, two, three, whatever and bring a different outfit for every single day. To each their own but I keep thinking about how expensive and heavy it is to bring more stuff and how annoying it is to carry it all :D

    This is so refreshing, I love that you don't sacrifice quality (that kanken, they legit last your lifetime it's insane) or your comfort by still carrying things important to you, but also not in excess by packing too much. Whenever I see 'minimalist' packing videos they're almost always full of crazy expensive luggage and overpriced amenities. To each their own of course, and if you can afford it then why not, but as someone that fits the vast majority of not being able to afford it, it makes it much less relatable lol. Instant follow, you're chill and I dig your packing style.

    For anyone with ADHD, most traditional ADHD medications are straight up not allowed in Japan, even with a prescription.

    • @kawaiijutsu
      @kawaiijutsu  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Bahhh, that sucks. No chance of doing the paperwork with the government to bring it in? (I forget what it’s called) - I’ve heard that can sometimes get some restricted things in for tourists

    • @kawaiijutsu
      @kawaiijutsu  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Also, since I just had to check for steroids for allergies - up to a month supply of most medications should be ok to bring - there is a list of restricted ingredients on the ministry of health and welfares website, but in most cases, you should be able to fill out the yunyu kakunin-sho and be able to bring a month supply. If you bring the list of ingredients that are banned to your psychiatrist, hopefully they can prescribe a medication that is legal in Japan for a one month supply

      @@kawaiijutsu No, they are illegal. If you try to bring them in, even with paper work, you will not be allowed in the country and may even be deported. When you travel to other countries, "I didn't know" is not an excuse.

    • @kawaiijutsu
      @kawaiijutsu  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha I think underwear is where I always allow myself extra “just in case” ones lol. I always tell myself though that it’s Japan - if I need it, I can get it pretty cheap pretty quickly.
      In winter, I have had to bring a larger backpack, just because the clothes are bulkier. Or I’ll use a carry on suitcase and plan to not move around as much and keep it more of a work focused trip. I figure most people do their Japan trips in the summer, so this would be the more useful one to show.

      @kawaiijutsu  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Drapperbat haha that’s fair, my apologies, especially if it’s a smaller one! I really liked living in a smaller town too - I could still get somewhere if I needed to get something (or just order it online), but things were less crowded and just more peaceful.
      For deodorant, sadly no :( I’d ask someone on the military base to set aside like 5 sticks of it whenever I’d go down there, or order it from overseas. In the winter I could use Japanese stuff without an issue, but I sweat too much for it in the summer. :(

    Also this is off-topic from this video, but from glancing at your channel, I wonder if you have any advice about transitioning back to the US after living and working in Japan? My partner has been doing JET for a few years, and will be moving back to the US later this year, so I'm curious on your insights about how that went for you. Thanks!

      Yay!! I’m glad it’s coming up in searches! I tried to make it as direct and concise as possible haha.
      As far as returning to the states, the hardest things for me to adjust to were health insurance being so awful, and things just feeling…more rushed? For lack of a better word? Like no more reading and chilling on the commute to work - gotta deal with traffic. Gotta drive everywhere, gotta be on your phone all the time to respond to work messages, etc. I like plenty of things about living in the states, but I definitely miss things about Japan too. On the upshot, my time in Japan seems to have made me more conscious of other peoples feelings and needs to the point I get complimented on it, so that’s good?

    • @kawaiijutsu
      @kawaiijutsu  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I got it off Amazon a long time ago, but any search for airplane footrest should bring it up - it’s basically a strap that goes around the tray table arms, and it’s a little hammock for your feet. You can’t use it till you hit cruising altitude though.
