Yes - you will find out why I bought another GS?....It's part of a challenge to myself in my Journey to become a better rider....so come along into my crazy thought around getting another GS....ha!!!
The BMW 1250 GS and GSA are two very well balanced bikes, from any angle of use you make an assessment to those bikes. I had two GS’s and one GSA…They’re are almost too good (if you can say that about something that is meant to be good). The only “flaw” , in my opinion was that till the engine is not enough heated you can’t do very high average top speeds without feeling that you might be injuring the bike? At least that was what I’ve sensed. Going on highways on average speeds over 75 mph or 150 kms until you are riding for two consecutive hours in a row, the engine feels like not enjoying that work. After that it’s ok, but until then, I got always the feeling that I was hurting the bike. This boxer engine loves to be ridden about 5000, rpm 5500 rpm, in the first two hours of a trip. And that’s what the actual 1300 GS overcame in my opinion. It’s a different animal. I’m very curious about the new GSA. In this iteration, it will end with all the doubts!😊
We think a lot alike! I’m interested to see how you set up your GS. My first GS I super decked out with a lot of accessories and kit. My new GS I’m trying to be a bit more selective on how I build it. Good luck! 🤟
Thinking of replacing my GSA gives me anxiety. I’ve customized it so much to what I need it for that it’s perfect. I buy and sell bikes as much as the next guy, but the GSA is the only one I do long distance touring and take off-pavement. Thinking about how many weekends I would need to spend in the garage working on a new bike to get it back to the way I want it would take months. I have been thinking of getting a 500 EXC and trailering it to the Smoky’s, where I do most of my riding, and ex-poring all the roads I haven’t gone down because I’m on a fully loaded GSA. I always service any bike I will use off-road myself so I know how everything works in case I get in trouble so I’m not stranded. Thinking about doing the 500 AND a GSA is not enticing though.
I get it...I think that's why I had the other bikes...then it was harder to go aways from the GS....I thought about a dual sport myself...good luck and travel safe - thanks for the comments!!!
I kinda go back and forth with this...I ended up buying a 23' GS Trophy. I think for me it came down to lighter outta the box and I also like being able to outfit it with different crash bars and also going with a different company for rear luggage. Enjoy your new bike! Enjoy your journey to get into shape and ready for the qualifier.
As someone that competed at the GS Trophy this year on a GS Adventure I agree. On a lot of the task it was noticeable that the standard GS was more maneuverable. I even discussed it with some of the instructor from the BMW Performance Center. You can just move around on the GS a little easier than the GSA. Enjoy the new one.
Now it just confirms what I saw and heard while being there...that extra bulk is more challenging than I think people realize...thanks - see you soon!!
That’s very interesting about the easier maneuverability. I rode both, but not off-pavement, and couldn’t tell a difference so I just went with the bigger tank. Next time I think I’ll try the GS or the 1290 SAR.
Hi Matt, good choice! I've buy 1250GS rather GSA, cause the weight is too much for me (170cm, 53kg 😅) but I've tried and ordered the 1300GS: easyer to manover, lighter than 1250GS. I hope she be delivered soon, 'cause I have my first rally in march. I keep my 1250 for road trip.
Amazing bikes, our 2014 1200 GS and our 1250 GSA are amazing! You are on point!
Thank you!!!

Well you'll like the next video as you will see the mods on the new bike!!! - thanks! - good luck on the build out!!!!
I feel super fortunate that I lucked into the Rallye. Lighter weight, but still get the longer travel suspension.

@@lifesjourneyat50 Other than the 890, what other bikes did you have while also owning the GS?
Thanks for the kind words. I do question the GSA. But it’s what I have. Time in the saddle is key. But being a super hero helps. 😂

So far it's a little easier...stand position off road and balancing...I do love the long haul and bigger tank for sure...safe travels!!!
@@lifesjourneyat50 I really hate fuel anxiety. That’s one of the reasons my GSA is my happy place.
Good luck at the GS Trophy 👍
well - I have 18months to get ready for the QUALIFIER...I need to do that first and see where I land..ha!!!! - thank you for the comment!!!
Wish I had gotten the standard over the adventure.
It's a bit of a difference...safe travels
Sounds logical to me. Guess you're keeping the GSA for big miles? Me? I have a Super Tenere, Tuareg and a WR250R. I ride all pretty poorly!
I'm sure you do well....I loved my Tuareg - I do have regrets selling it...thanks for comments!!!
There is no mention on who makes the GS
😂haha!!!! - So odd - some obscure company called BMW...
@@lifesjourneyat50 Suzuki makes a GS also.
@@TacoTruck17 I Learn something new everyday...sorry - I did not know that...thanks!
