    This is the best video I have been able to find on vinyl decals.
    One question, is there a way to print original colored artwork on some clear vinyl then place it through the cutter later? Using reg marks or something of that nature.

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure can. I don't have a vinyl printer so I can't do a tutorial on it, but all you do is print the artwork out with registration marks and create a contour cut layer to cut around the decal. I should have some ink transfer tutorials for doing tshirts coming up in the future showing how to contour cut with registration marks so make sure you subscribe. Thanks genomyoshida

    Tripti Shukla I can't reply to your question directly because of your privacy settings, but in order to do a multi-colored vinyl decal you need a vinyl eco solvent printer like this one. th-cam.com/video/RMBQNsY3R_M/w-d-xo.html All I have is a vinyl cutter which cuts decals out of single colors of vinyl at a time.

    I am stoked that I found your tutorials. I am new to the Adobe and had a question on your tutorial Vinyl decal start to finish. How was you able to bring in the ink splatter design to your demonstration? I try and bring in a second image and just starts a new document. Sorry for the stupid question, but would really appreciate some help if you have time. Thanks, Mike

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      winch driver Not a stupid question at all. All you do is drag your new image on top of the art board and let go of the mouse button. If it's on a different document you hold the mouse down while dragging the image up to the other tab at the top and then let go of the mouse button when it's over the art board. If you are still having an issue you can use the place function under the file menu at the top if your using Windows. Remember there is a difference between a vector image and a raster image like a jpg.

    I have a 31" R series vinyl cutter. It has VE LXI Expert software. I'm pretty new to this and haven't figured out if it has a layers tab as yours does or a merge tab. I have only found a weld button and it does nothing like yours does in this video. Yours sure made it look simple. Wondering if any of the software you use will work with my cutter to achieve what you just did?

    Dude this helped out so much. I am a graphic designer trying to understand sign making and production side of things. I am in the market to get a vinyl cutter but I was just confused in the application and adhesive and how the software works in correspondence to adobe. I wouldn't want to buy another designer software for a cutter I want a cutter that just cuts my designs. Any recommendation for vinyl cutter? 500-1000 range? or more. I have all other material and scanners and large format printers and I think a vinyl cutter will really open up a market for starting to do signs, banners ect. ect. I have a 36" repositionable full color printer that I could print on repositionable poster paper I want to run that through a cutter. any ideas on software? or cutter combo or what brands and machines to avoid?

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend the Graphtec machines. Since I started getting serious about cutting vinyl those are the only machines I've used. I am currently using the Graphtec CE5000-60

I understood that I should not use the Clear Transfer tape with the Matte 631 Oracal. I have a difficult time seeing with the opaque transfer tape and would like to purchase the clear tape. Would you be kind enough to share the name brand of this tape please? Thank You!

    • @InkSpit

      Thanks Dona Hepfinger . the transfer tape I use is TransferRite clear medium tack 1510. I have always used transfer tape with Oracal 631 and never had a problem. Most people use opaque transfer tape, but I feel the clear tape is a better presentation. Here is a link to where I buy it: www.fellerscertified.com/#where=iC6FB7024-E3B6-E9C8-AAC931F2E468AC52

    what type of color did you use? RGB or CMYK? a lot of people i ask they said use cmyk for printing

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vedanta Maha Karuna Yes, if you are doing design for print you typically want to use CMYK. In this case since there is nothing being printed with ink it doesn't matter too much. I have used both because the end result is simply the software sending cutting instructions to the vinyl plotter. You put whatever color of vinyl you want on the cutter.

    Great video. I'm just starting making graphics, haven't even received my cutter yet, but I'm hung up on merging the graphics. Done it step by step how you did but nothing happens when I click merge? And input would be appreciated.

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The merge command in the pathfinder tool only merges like colors I believe. If you just want to combine elements you can use the unite command in the pathfinder tool. If that doesn't help, please make a video showing your process and I will see if I can help you out.

    • @InkSpit

    What if you don't have a font style but are working with hand drawn scans. Do I need to scan individual images of the the letters I've designed & then trace over in Photoshop or is there an easier/more efficient way?

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to trace them with the pen tool if you are using Adobe Illustrator, or you could use the image trace function. I have a video showing how to use it here: th-cam.com/video/9LfejSOTSWw/w-d-xo.html

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It looks like you can't combine a live symbol with text. If you right click on the symbol and choose "break link to symbol" or choose to expand it from the object menu then you will be able to combine it with text using the pathfinder tool. Of course this means the symbol is not a true symbol anymore.

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +VALDE WAS HERE You first remove the paper backing. Then you stick the decal down with the clear application tape still over it. Then you peal back the clear application tape at a 45 degree angle and leave the decal itself on the surface. I still see cars driving around with vinyl decals that have the application tape still over the decal and it drives me crazy! Lol

    When I have text and I just want the machine to cut around the indicating outline it still cuts all letters and babbling that I have on them. I was wondering what I have to do to make the text and background just like a simple image and add the outline around it to get it cut? Can you help Mme on how to do that?

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to add an outline around something to cut it out you can use the offset path function. At least that's what it's called in Illustrator. There are similar functions in other vector design programs. Look for tutorials on how to use the "offset path" feature.

      Christopher Altamirano Go to the manufacturer website of your cutter and they will have one available or tell you what plugins are compatible. I have a Graphtec cutter and they provide the cutting master plugin for free for their machines.

    I can't figure out how to drag the logo over to add onto the text page. Im confused. I just have a picture I downloaded online of a crown and want to drag it over but it doesnt work. HELP?!

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but if you download an image from the internet you need to convert it to a vector graphic before you can manipulate it in Illustrator. You can do this by using the "image trace" feature in Illustrator.

    Hi, I would like to ask if what software are you using on creating some awesome stickers and or vinyl, and where can you get the fonts? thanks-

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alcraig Palma I am using Adobe Illustrator CC to create these designs. There are many websites you can get free fonts at but my favorite is www.dafont.com. Hope that helps.

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't researched any of the new vinyl eco-solvent large format printers so I can be specific, but the Roland models have always bee really good. If your looking for just vinyl cutter/plotter I recommend the Graphtec models which is what I have. Reliable performance with great results.

    Is it ok to put Vinyl decals on water bottles?

    • @InkSpit
      @InkSpit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +spyderken Yes, but test wash it first to make sure the vinyl can survive the washing or else sell it with a disclaimer that it is hand wash only. I have done both. The "cast" vinyl is a little bit more durable than the "calendared vinyl"

    • @InkSpit

      +Saad Riaz No because that's a raster based program, but you can do it with Inkscape which is an open source free vector design program. inkscape.org

      I love the clear stuff as well. Most people use the brown stuff which is odd to me. Maybe it's because the clear stuff is a little more expensive?

      +Tshaynyb Bo You don't mirror it because it cuts out on the machine right side up. When I make tshirts depending on the process I will mirror the design when I print it out.
