    This is such a refreshing take on this app that I've just bought for my first iPhone. There's so much soul in folk music that's sorely lacking in a lot of modern electronic music, (that I make, (but I'm trying to redress the balance).)

      @@TheValueOfN Oh, I dunno. I think it's impossible to be a self-motivated musician without a little soul getting in there, no matter what your instrument. It's all about expressing yourself, no?

    Fantastic! Particularly like the harmonies in Bold Riley.. such great songs..
    Great example of using Loopy Pro’s ability to adapt to the user’s needs.. whatever it is that you need it to do, you simply tweak a few parameters to get what you need.. setting up the interface in a layout that works for you is also priceless.. It’s a miracle worker.. 😁
    Thanks for sharing.. I look forward to your templates but also your Friday night singing sessions..

    Excellent video! I’ve got a quick question about making mine behave like yours, if it’s easy to answer. What tells loopy to not play the doughnut loop after your initial recording, but after that it will continue overdubbing if you don’t stop it in time?

    • @PiersCawley
      @PiersCawley  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@anthonywestbrook2155 I have to remember to tap the 'magic' button to stop the doughnut loop. There's some trickery in my latest version of the template that means I can tap during the prechorus one shot, but if you watch my streams, you'll still see that I forget to do that depressingly often. Last time I worked on the control system, I'd not managed to work out how to have that reversed - ie, a single tap to start the pre-chorus will overdub the pre-chorus and one time through the chorus, and a second tap while either the pre-chorus or chorus clips are in flight will cue up a repeated overdub.
      Maybe I'm overcomplicating things and would be better with three one-shot clips.

    Bold Riley - excellent - are you pressing buttons, footswitches or just follow actions for the various parts ?

    • @PiersCawley
      @PiersCawley  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The more recent live walkthroughs cover most of this (but they're incomplete because I got waylaid by a bloody awful cold that I'm just starting to get on top of). The current version of the template is all controlled via stepped dials, so I can choose the 'shape' of the song I'm going to sing, and then just keep hitting one button to do whatever comes next. It's not quite as bulletproof as I want, but it's not bad.
      Stepped dials allow for some setting up some amazing chains of behaviour.

    • @mandolin-george-uk
      @mandolin-george-uk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PiersCawley Thank you - I need ot look into stepped dials later. This would suit me as I have song types that are commonly sung with or without instrumental breaks - sounds good . I need to look closely again - I didnt see stepped dials

    Have you ever had the experience of watching yourself explaining how something you made works and realising that there's a better way to do it?
    I'll be off tweaking my templates again. Expect an updated version of this chat at some point, and (finally) a project file or two to download.

    • @PiersCawley
      @PiersCawley  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying it. Most of the folk clubs I go to are fully acoustic (I started using Loopy in lockdown because I missed the sound of the audience singing chorus harmonies), but I have done a couple of open mics with it - I'm still working out how best to set that up though.

      Ah, sorry. I got bogged down trying to remake and explain how it all works and I'm constantly tinkering with the version I actually use, so it never seems quite ready to release. I don't want to just chuck an undocumented and incomplete version onto a public server because I really don't want to get stuck dealing with support questions - I'd rather be singing.
      I also feel there's more value in showing how to implement something similar for yourself so you can integrate appropriate parts into your own workflow.

    • @PiersCawley
      @PiersCawley  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I plan to, I just have to get around to it. A couple of the longer live streams on here are rambles through getting my templates set up, and unless you're going to perform exactly the way I do, you might find the information in those more useful than just getting an un commented template.

      @@PiersCawley Yes, I am happy to try and set something up myself . The bigger questions I have are more to do with your simple operation. are you pressing buttons , footswitch or ussing auto detect for loops? How do you prevent bleed from playback loop into mic for vocals ? Its more to do with the logic of how you are going about it - at the simplest gear and structure of song level - I cant get get the basic concept right - once i have the logical approach right - I can create my own - I think . I began to think that live looping with loop pro is impossible wih the mic bleed problem. I was advised I can only use electric instruemts but you are doing well just with voice via mic. My problem is that without seeing your hands and feet - I cannot work out what you are doing - does that make sense?

    • @PiersCawley
      @PiersCawley  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@mandolin-george-uk In the streaming case, bleed's easily eliminated by using headphones or earphones. I'm using a condenser mic some distance away from my mouth and that's fine because I'm pretty much the only thing in the room making a noise. In a live setting, it's the usual trick of using a dynamic mic, with the gain pretty low and much closer to my mouth with some EQ to tame the bass boosting proximity effect (I don't worry unduly about that - that's why open mics have someone else in charge of the sound). For both these uses, an audio interface is an absolute must. Check out Max Yar's introductory videos for that stuff.
      I control the whole thing from a Launchpad X which is an 8x8 array of hand operated buttons, but I could also drive it from a MIDI foot controller, it's just a matter of setting up the mappings. Most of my MIDI bindings bind to on screen widgets, which means that if I go somewhere and forget my controller, I can still perform just using the iPad and an audio interface. For more info on how that's done, check out my last two live videos (that aren't Friday night performance streams).

    • @PiersCawley
      @PiersCawley  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Plenty of people are doing live performances with loopers using purely acoustic instruments and vocals. Ed Sheeran springs to mind :)

    • @mandolin-george-uk
      @mandolin-george-uk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PiersCawley Thank you very much. That is helpful. I had hopes to use it live butth ebest results I see are people who are streaming. I have an original launchpad - I might give it a go . So would be it be fair to say ythat ou are using button pressing - (lauchpad or ipad surface) rather than auto loop detect and follow actions . I had hoped I could automate the templates to avoid any pressing during the performance. Maybe its only a pipe dream? I suppose button pressing gives you more flexility . Thanks once again or getting in touch.
