Read this in my mid-30s and it made a huge impact. Got me into yoga, kept the mystery of life alive.. and definitely helped me wrestle with ego and maintain perspective. Because it's true: Levitate? So what. Feel chakra energy? So what. See auras? So what. All of those are nowhere near being an end goal. Fun and exciting and helpful, yes. But more like a window onto the mechanics of energy. Awesome interview, many thanks to you both. Around 1984 I was working in a small music recording studio in NYC and met one of George Harrison's friends who handed me a copy of Autobiography of a Yogi. At 21 yo, the book changed my life and I became a long distance student of SRF. While visiting relatives in Laguna beach a year later,, I took a bus to LA, then another bus that dropped me close to SRF sanctuary at the bottom of a hill and walked up to SRF. When I walked onto the land it felt like home. I was able to talk with one of the nuns and I cried a river of happy tears. Yet when I left I knew that the monastery life was not for me. Also I realized that Yogananda was one of many teachers that came into my life and I'm so grateful for his presence and teachings, the gift he left us. Again thank you Alex, this podcast brought treasured memories for me of my early Spiritual Path and Yogananda was an integral part of my journey. 💖
Had Yogananda's book with me on a journey to the south if France. Next to my bed, put a petal of a rose on it, as a token of love. Guess what ??? The petal remained the same for days & days on it did not decay .. Thats how Far reaching He is, and goes. ✨ Also Alex, a great read is: Life and Teaching of the Masters of the far East by Baird T Spalding. Thanx for your intervieuws, great guests, its so alively and lighthearted. 🤩
I hope I get to talk to you someday in person Alex as I'm sure many do. I really could use that conversation. Your shows changed my life and pulled me out of a very dark place and pulled me towards a place of hope. Thank you.
Alex everything that I am listening to make so much sense regarding George Harrison. I am a medium and spiritual coach who lives in the Chicago Illinois area. I am not too far from the theosophical society. I loved going to the Thursday night lectures and at that time an Episcopal priest by the name of Paul Gordon Chandler was talking about his book in search of a prophet that was about Khalil Gibran. I had no idea at that time how my life would actually change . I was always a Beatles fan as they came to the United States when I was 9 years old. For some reason I had this Affinity towards George Harrison. Soon after the lecture and as I began reading the book I began to channel George Harrison who told me he was The Reincarnation of Kahlil Gibran I needed proof. I began to get Clues and information which led me down a huge rabbit hole it all started to make sense! I belong at that time to a mediumship group that met weekly and talk to them about it and published a small version of what I channeled from George into a compilation book that they were getting ready to publish. There's so much more to the story and listening to this podcast just brought it all back!
Loving you using your wide exposure to talk about AY. Yogananda’s mission imho was and is about love. Love of life and self. Love of humanity and the incredible potential that we hold in our little hand, which is actually bigger than we could ever have imagined. The will of humanity to survive and thrive with hope of expansion and a map to the stars are encompassed in this book. Truly one of the greatest reads of my lifetime. I was first attracted to his face on the book cover when I was 19. That was 43 years ago. I cannot imagine my life without this knowledge. It shines through on your face Alex every day and in every podcast that you make. Blessings on you, from me and the five. 🙏😘🍀❤️🔥💖🖖🏻
I often wish Paramahansa Yogonanda was alive today so he could impart guidance in the world we live in today. Still though, his wisdom is timeless and I heed it as best as I can.
Yogananda seems to be even MORE alive in this world , right now, than he ever was when he was in his physical body!!! I first read Autobiography in 1979. As the years have passed, he became increasingly present, now he's EVERYWHERE!
Love Yogananda and Wayne Dyer...so Philip writing about Yogananda and "looking" like Wayne Dyer was so satisfying for me. Philip is gifted in his own right!
I had the opportunity to interview Phillip a few years ago for my podcast. His book American Veda has been an essential part of my spiritual path since the first time I read it. He's an invaluable resource. Always great to see him sharing his wisdom! Thanks!
Yes!! I grew up with a drive to find out how Jesus healed, I wanted to help the world find their true selves. On this journey I came across Vedic Yogi teachings, I have never looked back, it just fits like a puzzle
I read his autobiography in 97 while living in Austin. Austin's culture at that time was heading towards a very sour turn with all the "snobby" hipster invasion which ruined it for me. Including ruining anything I got into there at that time. I was really put off by the crazy and unbelievable magic tricks and miracles I read about in the book . Becoming an atheist didn't help. Now no longer an athiest I'm in a different place in my journey and would like to come back for a visit on Yogananda from a maturer place. Since so many brilliant people such as yourselves gravitate to him. What did I miss?
You missed nothing. It's all there for you to pick up again. Yogananda says teachers will be sent to you when you are ready. You just need to find the one that fits/resonates with you.
I will look for the book, im currently reading the life of gandhi, his dedication to living in alignment with the bhagavad gita, and how he used self restraint and fasting as spiritual tools
Alex and Philip, this was such an AMAZING interview! I really enjoyed all the information and enlightening words. Thanks so much!! Blessings, Love and Light to all ❤
