      Penny Lane, allow me to share with you where i was going with this. Lexus LFA has a 4.8 liter V10. A V10 thats smaller than a traditional V8 AND lighter than a V6. This “4.8 liter” pumps out 560ps which works out to 116hp per liter.
      Acura Integra Type R with its B18C5 engine pumps out 200ps, thats 111.11 hp per liter. Their S2000 makes 240 with its 2.2 liter, thats 109.1 hp per liter.
      Are you starting to see the picture? Yes, despite having more hp per liter doesnt mean itll beat it. It just goes to show the amount of engineering that was put into those motors is nothing compared to what any big american V8s or V10s and inline 4s put out- in natural aspirated form of course.
      Im saying, regardless of how big American muscle goes, the engineering on their engines is mediocre compared to other car manufacturers.

    • @pennylane1836
      @pennylane1836 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't really matter if the end result weighs the same or more, and has less torque lower in the rev range because of a lack of displacement. Forcing you to go with deeper gears in the axle to compensate for having less torque down low. Lighter than what V6? GMC had a V6 that was over 470ci, probably weighed the same as a chevrolet big block, smaller than what V8? You can have an LS block engine under the hood and have no idea if it displaces 293ci or 414ci with no descernible difference in physical engine size. You can have a V8 smaller in displacement and physical size than a 4 cylinder. I think I recall honda or nissan having a 1.6 litre V16, and Henry Ford built a car with an 18.9 liter 4 cylinder. There's no traditional sizes, it's not a very impressive feat of engineering if you have a high level of hp per ci, but to get there means the vehicle has to be saddle with extra weight on and to be made a larger size, kind of seems to defeat the purpose. If you had to choose between 2 engines, both weighed 475 lbs, both make 500 hp, but one is 300ci and the other is 400ci which would you choose? If you had any logic you would pick the 400ci. Why? It's because you would have more torque which means more hp down lower in the rpm. Which means you're not having to gear it as deep, which means you'll get better gas mileage. If it's not giving anything up to the 300 ci engine in terms of peak horsepower, engine weight, possible physical size, but makes more power down low and same power at their peaks, then what honestly does hp/ci matter? If 4.8 meant 480 lbs and 7.0 meant 700 lbs then ok, but it never did. If both weigh the same then what's the advantage in having less displacement? Better engineering? How about wasting brain power on something that has a simple solution?
      2009 Honda S2000
      curb weight 2,850 lbs
      2.2 engine
      237 hp 107.7 hp/liter
      mpg 18 city/25 highway
      2018 Chevrolet Corvette
      curb weight 3,450 (600 lbs heavier)
      6.2 engine (2.8 times more displacement)
      455 hp (1.9 times the power)
      mpg 16 city/25 highway
      With all the differences shouldn't the Corvette be a lot worse in mpg? It's because the lack of torque in the S2000 forces the need for a 4.1 axle where the Corvette axle is either a 2.41 or a 2.73. Even Honda realized they messed up and added more displacement so the peak torque would come in about 700 rpm sooner.

    As for mods on the C8 LT2, is their any HP to be gained in changing the rocker arm ratio? They are already at a high 1.81:1. They say that you gain very little with a head change, even with high dollar AFR or Trick Flow heads. They have been porting and milling the stock heads for the best gains. They also state that you gain very little with an intake manifold change, they just do a little blending and porting on the stock LT2 manifold. It looks like you will need to change or mod almost everything on the motor, to pick up much HP over the stock motor. The 11.5 compression ratio tells us allot, the motor has been pushed to a much higher limit than the LT1.

    The pushrod V8 is a design that was right, right from the start. Reliable as a stone, powerful and proven. Other benefits include lighter weight, smaller physical size, fewer rotating parts and a maintenance free valve train. No chain tensioners and guides that need replacing, no belts, belt tensioners and horribly expensive visits to the dealership associated with OHC and DOHC designs. Indeed the pushrod engine is so reliable, it is used in aircraft. For all you brainwashed non-thinkers that will say they cannot rev, study the 500CI Pro Stock motor which develops over 1,200BHP at 11,000RPM. Wake up. I am a diesel enthusiast so I believe any engine that has to rev to make power is a waste anyhow.
