Crime Beat: The final chapter of the Christine Jessop and Guy Paul Morin tragedy | S2 E3

  • It was October 1984 in a small town outside Toronto, when a young girl went missing. Almost 3 months later, Christine Jessop’s body was found more than 50 kilometres away from her Queensville home. The nine-year-old was raped and murdered. After an intense police investigation, a former neighbour, Guy Paul Morin was charged. Numerous trials resulted first in an acquittal, then a conviction to an eventual wrongful conviction dismissal.
    But years later - a major breakthrough using the science of genetic genealogy. Do police finally have the right killer?

    So because he played clarinet, liked bees and didn't talk to his neighbors he was weird and therefore a suspect? wow. I hope none of my neighbors ever turn up dead. and the fact that he didn't attend the funeral means absolutely nothing...they just said he never talked to the neighbors. at least the cops and prosecutors apologized to him after he was found to be innocent. Most departments would not ever do that. I guess they can have props for that.

    I don’t interact a lot with my neighbours either...it doesn’t mean I’m weird. It just means I like my privacy and dislike nosy neighbours 👌 the amount of mistakes and wrongly convicted people in the justice system is terrifying 😳 it’s definately a broken system

    One of the most disturbing aspects of this case is that one of the informants was an undercover police officer who very clearly lied about the jailhouse confession. If the police had done their jobs they could have solved this case and brought about justice for Christine. Instead, her killer got to live his entire life and end it on his own terms. Knowing who he is is not justice.

    32:17 We can only hope the guilt ate at him every day since the murder in 1984. And of course the fear of being caught. I hope he was constantly looking over his shoulder, never able to get comfortable.

    It's scary. So many tortured souls.

    • @carewser
      @carewser ปีที่แล้ว

      In order to believe there are many false convictions, one must believe the justice system is deeply flawed, but I don't, I believe the overwhelming majority of convictions are correct and as evidentiary science grows the percentage of false convictions drops even lower

    Police that time got something right. The criminal is "someone local and knows the family" Maybe if they didn't focus too much on Paul Morin, they might have caught the real murderer.

    I don't talk to my neighbours. I don't socialise. I read and write and play the viola. What happens if my neighbour dies? This is an appalling story. The gentleman who was accused and spent 18 months in jail should have received more than just an "unreserved" apology. He deserved compensation for a wasted 18 months of his one precious life on earth.
