I'm self taught and I went to school for it. I've learned things in class that I couldn't find on the internet and found helpful TH-cam video content that I didn't learn in school
I'm just now leaving design as a CD after 15 years. I was self taught designer, then developer. My #1 secret, just go for it. It's not technically difficult, it's usually fun and you'll make cool friends along the way. Good luck!
Im studying for alot rn, im studying graphic design, photography, Artist, fashion design, 3D design, Editing, Animating, sculpting, Motion Design, i know its Alot, but im having fun along the way
I went to school for Graphic Design and most of what I know is through that program. However, I have also learned a lot by watching videos online and talking to different designers. I think what's really important for a young designer is a strong portfolio and it doesn't matter if you have a degree or not.

Im also thinking of a career change! I have a master’s in social work and am thinking of doing graphic design. Im not such a self-starter, so im signing up for classes at local community college.
Thanks for this. I’m currently going to be a sophomore in college this fall and my major is graphic design and I’ve been feeling discouraged but this makes me feel better about the options there are in design :)
As an absolute beginner, my number one problem is coming up with ideas or not knowing where to start. Idk what I’d do next after making a logo, mocking set ups, what fonts I could use, if I need to include photography or how can I incorporate all of them into a portfolio and I’m honestly overwhelmed since graphic design is my upcoming major but idk where to even begin even after a simple sketch.
This video made me happy. I'm in a gap year looking forward to attending a uni for fine arts & graphic design but my plans have been drastically shifted due to covid. I read endless posts about how being self-taught in this field isn't always going to land you a job, and that only stresses me out more. Nonetheless you've become my favourite TH-camer and I'm hoping you will reach a bigger audience because you deserve it ♥️😌
I just finished retraining (already been to uni but not for design so couldn't afford take 2!) and I just wanted to say how much I love the language that you used in this video. "You are professional" etc, made me feel really positive after the ol' rona has diminished job opps where I am at the moment.

Just as another note for people coming into the field and aren't comfortable with the idea of freelancing.

Hi Paola! I've been following and watching your videos for a while now. I'm a frustrated Graphic Designer and you and Kel Lauren's channel have been my main motivation and source if i'm feeling a creative block going on. But i've been having a really hard time freelancing and looking for clients have just been really terrible for me and i just can't seem to land a permanent or a long time client to work with. Basically i just want to know what your process is as to how to grow and learn new things. It's something i've been struggling lately and i feel like my portfolio just revolves around the same style of design and i feel like growth is something that i need BADLY. What kind of things do you do, or how do you get started when you want to learn something new? If you watch tutorials what do you keep in mind to make something "Personal"? Thanks for continually reaching out to people like me who wants a place in the creative field! I appreciate your videos so much!

Hey 👋 came across your channel and thank u sweetheart it help me understand what graphic design is. Appreciate also keep up the great 👌 work you do and you reading this have a blessing day as well byeee 🌟
I like to feel like a "self taught" cause in some ways I am, I'm on University studying graphic design, but I actually want to be a illustrator so, as I know graphic design is not specifically made for learning to do illustration I actually learn more from stuff when I research on internet, anyway, I feel like the formal studies are helpful to make the plan, but definitely research and the energy you put to learn is what actually makes you learn, anyway I'm not sure that "self taught" is the way to call it cause there's someone that wrote the articles or recorded the videos that have helped Lear something, like, that people is for me the professors haha that's why I feel like nobody can be a total "self taught" but yeah... It's important to do stuff by your side
I really want to pursue this career but will I be paid enough to live off of? Ik theres many choices in graphics design but I'm just unsure that this will pay my bills.
Is it hard being an introvert in a graphic design? Like I'm not social person and doesn't really enjoy talking to people but I still love graphic design. Do I have to be outspoken person except working as freelancer?
Corporate field is not an option for me I’m tatted up in many visible areas . How’s tattoo culture in graphic design ? I know here in California specifically Los Angeles most companies are very welcoming towards tattoo individuals but not sure about graphic designers.
I think it's great to start out and try programs before going into school! If you don't want to invest in them yet at least watch videos! It's always good to be ahead of the game. When I was 16 I started using photoshop and it helped a lot to create a few digital pieces for my portfolio!
Paola Kassa do you have any advice for those as young as i am who are worrying about going into this field ? i constantly research about it and there r some aspects of it which make me nervous about going into a job like this

what are the best places to find graphic design jobs? I have an AFA and am considering going back to school but would like to get a job in the mean time. I’ve had trouble finding jobs on Indeed or other job sites.
This was good info. I am starting to freelance and am wondering how to set my cost and how to generate a thorough contract for clients to complete prior to submitting commissions. Any advice?

So how do I do this if I'm 15 ( I studied graphic design for gsce and I passed)

I'm part time graphic design student too, and you are cool to share this with us!
Im 16 and im going to be a junior do you have any tips? Like should i start playing around with some programs on my own or should i wait?
i am the same age as you! im doing graphic design next year and ive just been practicing with digital programs but theres just so much to learn
I think it's great to start out and try programs before going into school! If you don't want to invest in them yet at least watch videos! It's always good to be ahead of the game. When I was 16 I started using photoshop and it helped a lot to create a few digital pieces for my portfolio!

what are the best places to find graphic design jobs? I have an AFA and am considering going back to school but would like to get a job in the mean time. I’ve had trouble finding jobs on Indeed or other job sites.
This was good info.

Any advice?
