Suzuki Outboard - Full Oil Service - Quick & Simple

  • This is a Suzuki outboard tutorial on how to change the oil on your engines in my case the DF60A 2010 and 2012. I'll be changing the Engine and GearBox Oil.
    Engine Oil - 2.5 lt - Castrol Magnatec 10w-40 (40 means highest acceptable temperature in Centigrades , check your region for correct number)
    Gearbox Oil - 80W-90 (Do check this is the correct one for your region as well)
    Always struggling to find out how to do things on my engines.
    I like to do them myself, so I post it online so you guys have a quick and simple tutorial.
    I am in no way a professional, I am just trying to help the average boater with simple tips. If you're not comfortable working on your engines, do search for professional help.

    I'm about to service my df70a, is car oil ok to use then?

      Hi mate hows it? Yeah man. No problem at all. Just use the specs accordingly to where you live. I use 10W-40, the 40 means max outside temperature. If you are in colder areas you can use lower, something like 10W-30. I use Castrol Magnatec Fully Synthetic which is a high quality grade oil. Hope that helps. Cheers

    I've been working on my motorcycles with shaft drive for many years. I always remove the top screw first to make sure it is not stripped or broken before draining the gear lube out the bottom. That way you'll have lube inside if you have to take it to a shop. If you open the bottom first and can't open the top, you'll be in worse shape. Every video I've seen of the outboard lower unit oil change, has the person opening the bottom first. Any reason for that other than the oil will come out faster with the top open?       Yeah, the reason is when you take the bottom one first it doesnt fly out the oil. While you unscrew the top one it slowly starts flowing out.
      But you have a valid point there though.

      Same when doing diffs in 4wd. Do top first make sure you can refill. I know I did it wrong ONCE. 🤟🤟

    with the left cover, the trim switch is rubber so you can push it right out and remove the cover completely fairly easily

    I have a Df 90 how often do you change your water impeller

      In the manual they say every 200h or every 12 months. Thats more or less what I follow.

    Was that WD40 you were spraying all over the motor after you put the engine oil drain plug in?

      Correct. I do spray all the block every couple of months as well. And outside I use a cheaper version and spray after every use specially in those hidden parts near the Clutch Rod.

    I have a 1999 Suzuki df70 recently I did some maintenance on the water separator and after that I noticed I'm getting water in the motor oil I think maybe I criss cross some of the water hoses but not sure
    I did do a compression check all four cylinders checked out just fine what do you suggest that you thank you

    hi it's Dan again with the Suzuki df70 thank you for your response by the way I appreciate it I have another question the problem was water was being pumped into the crankcase my question is how do I get all that water out of the crankcase thank you

    yes you are right... common problem, when i bought my df60a it had salt in all the same places, next time you service its a good idea to get a spray bottle of hot water and spray it around the motor to dissolve the salt

    where am I at right now is I have routed all the water hoses according to the manual I still get water in the crank immediately turns milk White and just floods the oil with water immediately and it turns milky white immediately

      That to me sounds more like a gasket problem then a water routing issue. Just a guess really.
