Had a 250 Suzuki on a 24 bay boat. It was a great motor. Quiet, fuel efficient, and was very reliable for the 800 hours I owned it. Not a single issue.
I was running a boating enforcement operation and encountered continued problems with twin outboard setups due to running them well past 2k hours and couldn't get budgeted for replacement vessels. Our well-respected mechanic in town told me that my vessels were solid and if I could convince the organization to repower vs. replace, he really thought highly of Suzuki outboards. Having had a good experience with Suzuki patrol dirt bikes, I took the expert's advice & surprisingly got the authorization to quickly repower the vessels. I left the boating enforcement unit 4 years later, without encountering any issues outside normal maintenance for the Suzuki's, which were run hard. Like my patrol dirt bike vs. Honda's & KTM's we had, the Suzuki just kept going & going and I've come to believe their outboard motors are the same way. Dependability is what I came to value most when relying on equipment to do a job.
I'm in PR. I'm replacing my old 2 Stroke Mecury 175 HP and repowering with a Suzuki 175 HP. Best warranty, reliable, solid motor and few thousands cheaper.
I seen one of your videos. I have been a mercury guy for years. Outboards I am looking to choose a suzuki for my future pontoon. Mercury has great nationwide service and many service centers, but mercury has to many problems I am hearing from owners. I am choosing suzuki.
I had St.Augustine Marine a part of the Mastry group do my Repower and they did a great job. Twin 200 Zukes that do a fantastic on my Grady White Islander. Very quiet, fast and fuel efficient. I get 100 more miles per tank of gas! They are incredible motors.
Considering re-powering my 1995 Angler 220 walk-around with a 200hp Suzuki. Only 100 pounds more than my old 2.5L carb 200 Mercury. My local dealer ordered a bunch of them, should be available sometime over the winter.
So.. Suzuki added more parts to the engine to make it accelerate better, and with that adding more weight to the engine and with that to the boat. It always comes down to the total weight and horse power / torque. While every engine produces 100HP, it doesn't necessarily means same torque. And I'm guessing an Evinrude ETEC G2 would still accelerate faster, being it's a 2-stroke and lighter. And ETECs are apparently very clean, so it's a moot point for mixture burning. On old 2-strokes? Aw gawd, they can be used as mosquito repellents XD
Did you have an ETEC? G1 or 2? I was looking at a new G2 for the torque and maintenance but now 'rude is gone. How does the Suky compare in power to what u had? I will be in the 225-250 range tho.
Dave Logic my Evinrude was a 2001 150 FICHT, which was the first version of the ETEC, or so I was told by my mechanic, I only had it for a short time because it was junk, it ran fine for a short time but then I started having problems and was told by a lot of people to get rid of it if possible, I did, I love the Suzuki 150 I have now, it’s on a 19 1/2’ boat, pulls great, runs 40 mph
Weight to horse power is better with a 2 stroke. I bought a Suky 15 horse short shaft. Lasted about 40 days. Point is' the shaft length of the older motors were short and lighter. And as for warranty good luck, if you bought your motor on line expect any maintenance to be at least half the cost of the unit. This is not just Suzuki , but all 4 strokes.
Buyer beware. We bought a new 2018 Suzuki DF6AS2 lemon engine. It’s all over the forums that these small 4 cycle engines are defective. We have a lemon and know of at least four or five others with problems, all related to seizing exhaust valves, if the engines are stored for longer than a few weeks without use. Some people have been able to get refunds, and some like me, may have to junk the engine out and buy something that is reliable. These engines are cheaper for a reason. Suzuki should have stuck with motorcycles, and left the marine engines to the people who know how to build an engine that will stand up to Marine conditions.

seemed good to me. larger prop makes up for lower gearing. lower gearing gives motor advantage to turn that larger prop. like big ass drag radials, need low 1st.

I love my new and first Suzuki 350, however, It recently suffered a major mechanical failure. The lower unit failed. My dealer tell's me that the warranty will replace it, however, he now tells me the unit is on back order. What a bummer when it happens in the middle of prime fishing season. I'm in coastal N. 350 was a new motor, I believe in 2019, had a problem with the lower seal/machining. Mine had the same problem, they wasted no time and replaced it in a week. ZERO dollar charge. The shutdowns state to state fubar'd the supply system in the US and elsewhere, sorry to hear you were down
I'm sure Suzuki makes great outboards, but when I compared their 70hp with Yamaha 70hp, the Suzuki weighed 343 lbs to Yamaha's 253 lbs. I don't know the price difference, but it didn't matter.
@@TheMrkylester101 Yep. The 70hp Yamaha is the same motor as the 50 and 60 Yamaha. The 75hp Yamaha is based off the 90 and 115. The Suzuki 70hp has more balls than the Yamaha 70. 1.0l for the Yami and 1.5l for the Suzuki. A lot of consumers out there really don't know much about what they buy.
In 1999 in Jacksonville Florida I bought the 26th made DF40 horsepower Suzuki engine made on the first day of production. It made it to Jacksonville from Japan in less than a month. On June 8th 2024 I bought a new Suzuki DF50 to repower that same boat. The DF40 was the very first electronic fuel injected four-stroke engine produced by Suzuki. I had been working on electronic fuel injection systems since Volkswagen came out with the very first Bosch system on their type III models in 1968 when I was a Volkswagen mechanic. People asked me why water was running out my engine when the engine was not running. I had to explain to them the engine WAS running, to which they replied HOLY SMOKES that thing is quiet. So on the sides of my boat is the name HOLY SMOKES in old English lettering like you would find on a Bible.
"Suzuki doesn't have warranty issues" Then, literally the next sentence out of his mouth, "When a Suzuki owner has an issue, Suzuki takes care of them right away." Bottom line, aside from the rare production issue, all outboards today are high quality and dependable. I just repowered my boat and I considered Suzuki but ultimately I went with Yamaha because I was replacing a Yamaha and was able to use the existing rigging.
I have 350 that pushes 6k+/-lbs. It gets 2.5mpg going 40mph. Offshore, at idle, you have to look back and see that it's still on.. it's really that hard to hear. The 6 year suzukui warranty is the only thing greater than this motor. I've had two boats with yamahas prior to this, this is definitely less maintenance, less repair. And, I know a couple of guides that have over 10k hours on their suzukis. you really can't beat them
Suzuki power is hard to Beat, although I know of one local lodge that had twin 350,s on a heavy alu boat. Went through 2 sets last season. Issues with this engine model
Suzuki needs better financing options and they will get all the business not just some! I’m buying right now twins the only reason I’m going yammi is because they finance 15 years. Makes repowering doable when you have to buy 50k worth of motors!
What the salesman is saying is wrong. He says that they go faster because they can swing a 25" pitch whereas the competition can only swing a 23" pitch. But they can do that because of the 2.59:1 gear ratio, where say a Murcury (let's consider the 115s of both) has a 2.08. Look at the numbers. Ignoring slip, which is not a product of the engine, A Suzuki swinging a 25" pitch prop at 5,500 engine rpms with a 2.59 gear ratio, will travel 4,424 ft in a minute. However, the Merc, with a 2.08 gear ratio, swinginf a 23" pitch prop at the same rpms will travel 5,068 ft in a minute. The lower gear ratio, while increasing torque, also slows the actual propeller rpms down. The Suzuki would have to be running 6,300 rpm to match because of the higher gear ratio - even with the 25" pitch prop.
So he says that spinning a higher pitch prop means they're running fewer RPM at the same speed. Well yeah, you're running fewer prop RPM, but just before that you mentioned the extra set of gear reduction on the zuke, so you're running less prop RPM but probably the same engine RPM unless you have a significantly different torque curve.
I’m planing to replace my engines with new ones, I’m kinda confused what to go for the new 300 Verado or 300 Suzuki, my engines that on my boat now is 300 verado 2013 and I don’t want to lose the speed that I’m used to Any advice please

Clever marketing, good product, but not outstanding or great. The only game changer here in outboards were the Evinrude G2. Like’m or love them, but they where real innovate. Remember when Mercury had a clause allowing Yamaha access to the US market due to a clause after co-opting on cheaper outboards. Out of that came Mariner. If there is one thing the Japanese can, it’s copying what everybody else is doing. Only better I guess. For myself, I’ll never run anything else than a two-stroke…. When that time comes, I’ll switch to inboard diesel….
They rot out faster from salt water. And their timing chain is at the bottom of the engine. So ya have to pull the whole power head to fix it. Don’t make sense to me.
Why because there cheap but ask yourself how many old Suzuki outboard motors do you see and the answer is none. The engine blocks either rot out or blow up. Plus there's a waiting list right to buy another brand outboard motor.
John Blackard lol! Thanks. I live in Miami & work on the water. Most of the boats have mercury. Second most is Yamaha. Once in a while you’ll see a zuke.

Never had a Merc or Yam let us down either. My dad has a 15 zuk on his tender for his Hatteras and since day one we have had nothing but issues with it. Sort of strange
Sorry to hear that.
I suppose everyone can make a lemon.
Carolina.
The 70hp is the same engine as the 90hp alot of companies detune the engines hence why the weight
"Suzuki doesn't have warranty issues"
Then, literally the next sentence out of his mouth,
"When a Suzuki owner has an issue, Suzuki takes care of them right away."
Bottom line, aside from the rare production issue, all outboards today are high quality and dependable.
I just repowered my boat and I considered Suzuki but ultimately I went with Yamaha because I was replacing a Yamaha and was able to use the existing rigging.
Looking/have paper work done on an a Excel Pro Bay 20 ft with a 2021 Suzuki 140
Nope that’s 60 months. Suzuki is the only one who will finance and up to 60 months
What does financing have to do with failures?
Not any more ! Mercury Outboard is now the leader !
There much cheaper and of course the 6 year warranty
Peter Nguyen is that warrantee worldwide I live in Australia 🇦🇺
I wish they were cheaper in australia
They are. Not there.
Suzuki’s are excellent motors They don’t have the dealer network. “Dominating” ...nonsense!
Suzuki needs better financing options and they will get all the business not just some!
I’m buying right now twins the only reason I’m going yammi is because they finance 15 years. Makes repowering doable when you have to buy 50k worth of motors!
Be damn lucky if they last 15 yrs
keep going man awesome videos !
Suzuki Marine in Canada are very good
So he says that spinning a higher pitch prop means they're running fewer RPM at the same speed. Well yeah, you're running fewer prop RPM, but just before that you mentioned the extra set of gear reduction on the zuke, so you're running less prop RPM but probably the same engine RPM unless you have a significantly different torque curve.
It was just a bad explination. I tired to explain it better in my comment.
I’ll stick with my Mercury
Anyone of the big brands are going to be good it’s just how you take care of your boat
I'm betting you are a fresh water guy. Mercs are not as popular down in the high salt of south west Florida.

Hi Alfred I need to repower my old legacy 20 ft with a suzuki 115 hp where can I go to find a good dealer to help me, thanks for your videos
WARNING: This video has false and misleading statements regarding Suzuki Motors, warranty services, and performance reliability. Parts for these motors are not regularly available and you will experience massive delays and down time waiting for warranty work. Design flaws plaque this motor such as the intake grate causing overheat conditions regularly. Be cautious. Oil leaks have occurred and vacations ruined, costing thousands of dollars. Reliability is LOW.
Keith at a minimum you should back up your statement with facts. It can be interpreted as you fear mongering to create a bias to other brands. Email me your findings and or facts to luxuryribtenders@gmail.com
Isn’t the second 3 years of the warranty handled through a third party and not Suzuki?
Alfred Montaner - my statement “IS” based on facts, I own a new Suzuki and have had exactly issues I detailed. Rather than blame me for fear mongoring, you should re-visit your therapist and explain your pessimism, inabilities to deal with facts, and a willingness to defend issues relevant to poor products developed and sold to hard working Americans.
In fact, Mastery motors failed to resolve the issue. Sales Suzuki Dealer refused to work on the motor.

What’s the failure rate of the gear box under the power head?
Very low I have seen these motors with 6k hours without a single problem just regular maintenance..
Thank you for the great tutorial and review with the Suzuki folks. Question. Apples to apples spec size are there any savings by choosing these over brand M and Y ?? I have a 25’ 2005 Grady with a Yamaha 250 in need of reposed. Thank you Gentlemen. J J.
When you repower do twin 150s or more.. those Grady are heavy well built boats.
Where is your closest dealership to Tallahassee Florida..??
Any of these in Jacksonville?
Not dominating here in Ontario Canada. Can’t even find them. No one sells them so we can only get Yamaha or Merc. But you have to wait till 2022. No stock till then.
Uh, that's now 2023...
I see people using Suzuki outboards at the venice.florida boat ramp charter captins especially
Americans need to support American industry. A few extra bucks because we are worth it.
Suzuki are the best outboards, peeps, make sure you wear the kill cord when driving your craft, as it will cut the engine if you go overboard and stop runaway boat pls
Need to repower my 18 outrage thinking hard on a 150 Suzuki coming off a optimax
Dealers here in South Texas advised a new repower will be about 6 months, at least due to demand
Im sure Suzuki is dominating the market the same way any of the Japanese companies do it, they produce a superior product for less money.
Because they are cheap.... you get what you pay for
I agree you pay 5000+ for a Yamaha brand new and only get 3 year warranty but they do last and are quality
Suzuki should take over Evinrude G2 tech.

love seeing so many dislikes at anything suggesting something not named yamaha is good. fanboys are insatiable. i like yamaha, mostly from motorcycles, have r1, had yzf, dislike suzuki cuz no one likes gixxxer riders. but, they're damn good outboards, that trumps brand loyalty. my old ox66 sucked, ficht million times better, and suzuki even better than them. i wouldn't mind trying merc one day, but less interested in supercharged setup.
Alfred I thought you got in trouble 😅
yamaha suzuki are the best engines on the market the evinrude nobody wants them and mercury are rubbish pieces that are always broken
junk verados300 True that Honda good too bit pricey but I’ll take a Mercury 4 stroke over Evinrude tho If came to that 🇦🇺🤙

Mercury the black anchor.
Mercury has come a long way and I believe are now reliable and have insane power
That older guy towards the end may want to update his sales pitch a bit.
Does anyone fit Suzuki engines on new boats?
alfred how do I get ahold of that guy I need to repower my bass boat . need a 200
Clever marketing, good product, but not outstanding or great.
