You might've done yourself a favor actually. With time, Nintendo and all these other companies tend to not care about older modded consoles. But when you mod it while it's still being supported you can get your account banned.

Apparently the 3DS actually had GBA hardware in it. The games weren’t emulated, they were genuinely running on 3DS hardware. Because of that they didn’t have features like save states, and that’s likely why they kept it to the 3DS Ambassadors.
Well, the console itself isn't fast enough to emulate Gameboy and Gameboy color games in software. However, it did have dedicated hardware to run GBA games.
Modders and homebrew community advocate for modding the consoles because it allows people to access more features, make proper backups and run homebrew (including emulators), but let's be honest, the main reason the vast majority of people would mod their console is to pirate games.

I'm having such a fun time with the custom themes, there's a lot of options out there 💕 That and also the epub readers which make it look like a book, is weird but kinda awesome 📚 Now my only regret is not having the money to buy a XL 3ds, the screen size of the normal one isn't very good for my eyesight anymore :c
@@AlanJia8 Sorry but that's just not true. The process to modding a 3DS has gotten so simple over the years. Even if you're a "non-techy" person, the instructions are so well structured and written so clearly to make the process as easy as possible for people like you. Even for those on the slower side, it should take no longer than an hour at most. You would have to do something terribly wrong for it to take literal hours.
I actually bought a pre modded 3DS. I then learned in reverse how to add games and the like. Hot tip for anyone that's just modding their 3DS. Universal Updater is a godsend.
My mom brought me a pre modded PSP and PS3. I learned how to download games on it. The 3DS I modded myself when I was 16 and learned to install the games. The 3DS is as easy as the PSP to install games. The PS3 games size are huge

A modded switch is even better because you can play n64 in wide-screen, play ds and some 3ds and psp games and much more. That means portable games on the big screen.

Most underrated feature: you can play Virtual Boy games in 3D. There aren’t that many, and only a handful are worth playing but it’s the best way to investigate a mostly forgotten corner of Nintendo’s history.
I homebrewed my 3ds in middle school (6 or 7 years ago) so it's always a bit surprising seeing everyone discover it lately. It was slightly more difficult back in the day, and it required OOT, another molded system, or other misc requirements, but it still wasn't too bad. It's crazy how easy it has gotten.
A modded 3ds gets you so much value, like the 3ds library is amazing on its own but being able to play neo geo, snes, nes, gameboy even ps1 and n64 games in a handheld is amazing
I love playing Mario 64 running natively on my 3ds, it might be scary for some but it is worth jailbreaking your console, just remember to make a backup of all the files from time to time, it can save your ass.
Can't stress enough backing up your GM9 folder and keeping a backup of your original 3ds software. Which is easier than ever with cloning software today.

My only regret about the way I am introduced to modding my consoles is I wish I learned more sooner. Like for real it’s just…it’s so freaking good no matter what console you choose and I’m kicking myself not doing these sooner I now have my Wii fully done and am beginning my 3DS, though I wish to also try the New 3DS/2DS one day and a Wii U as well

If you're OK with voiding the lifetime warranty then go for it! Just know what you're loosing when you do it. My buddy got a free repair from Nindendo for his 3 or 4 year old 3ds. So long as you have the serial number you're golden!
The 3ds is a very solid system when modded, you can have any Nintendo DS/DSi/3DS Game, Gameboy/color/advance, NES, SNES and even some external consoles, plus i have my 3DS as an All-in-one, installed some CIA to play music, added DSi calculators, and even got over the web a PDF file checker, so yeah now i can deliver my homework with a 3DS, It's cursed. And I love it.
It's 2 years that i have a modded 3ds and i love it so much. CTGP-7 is easily the best hack online too. There's some really good things like Wumiibo for emulating amiibos and Anemone for custom themes that i also created some. My love for the 3ds is just unexplainable
The latest one works as of now but if a new firmware update does come out DO NOT UPDATE as it probably only attempts to disable modding and you will need to update luma first
Cool tip: The 3DS shares most of its hardware with the DS and GBA, which means it can natively play GBA games, so all you need to play GBA games on it is to create a custom inject which is super easy
Some other things is that you can download games on your switch with the universal updater + the hshop, also you can use the black and green folder (forgor name) to not have to take out the sd card every time
Luma3ds also automatically removes region locking. I have the Japanese Super Mario Maker on my American 3ds, and it runs perfectly fine. Though, games that need updates only take updates from their regions. But it works perfectly.
My only regret about modding my 3ds is not doing it sooner

Nintendo literally released like 4 GBA games for Ambassador members. I feel like nintendo is lazy.

I think you can also use it to transfer Pokémon from emulators, regardless of platform, to the current games if you have the right software.
With a tool like PokeHex you can move your pokemon between games. I use my 3ds to have every generations games all on one system

Themes are amazing, I even drew and ported a few themes made by myself with some of my own music as well. I love it!

I used Frogminer to mod mine. It's so much more streamlined now, though. A modded 3DS is absolutely amazing.

get hshop when you mod it too, it literally just lets you download every game made on the 3ds for free, but you do need enough storage for it too

Is it safe to buy a modded 3ds or homebrew right now? Will Nintendo still ban the device ?

Bought a 3ds specifically to mod it, it's pretty amazing
Man, I lost my modded 3ds a few months ago and now seeing anything about the 3ds anywhere just makes me sad
you can even play snes games on old 3ds depending on the game it can get laggy but it's still pretty cool
I feel like the 3DS was a little ahead of its time. If only it was released in 2022 but with way better specs.

If you want to play GBA games, in addition to emulation you also have the option of using a tool to inject GBA VC titles and run them natively.
