Also, calm down comments, it's literally one street. These people have come here, into what probably was a very run down part of Manchester and transformed it into a vibrant colourful place with lots of tax paying business.
According to scant history which is mostly verbal and anecdotal, the British encountered curried food dishes in India back in the 1700s and 1800s. But supposedly it wasn't until the late 1800s that curry really took off among the British, being established over in England itself. From there the British Royal Navy introduced curry stew into Japan at either the very end of the 19th century or somewhere early in the 20th century. The Japanese almost immediately fell in love with the savory, piquant taste of Indian curry stew, usually beef curry despite beef consumption being taboo in India. The British had adapted Indian curry to suit British tastes by adding beef. It probably have been only chicken curry that the British first encountered in India. Curry in India did not always mean a stew. There was such a thing as, curried spice roasted chicken. But the curry that is popular in Japan is beef curry stew and second after that is chicken curry stew. The Japanese loved curry stew so much it became a Japanese national dish. It became a hearty comfort food much like beef stew is in the United States and Canada. The Japanese probably tweaked the curry recipe a little bit to suit their tastes. Curry stew mixes are widely sold in Japanese supermarkets. Japanese curry stew is always served with steamed, broiled white rice. It is likely Japanese emigrants to the then Territory Of Hawaii introduced beef and chicken curry stews sometime in the early 20th century. Curry became widely popular on the Hawaiian major island of Oahu, in its capital city, Honolulu. Curry is still popular in Hawaii and served as either, beef or chicken curry stew poured alongside or next to a copious amount of broiled, white rice. The British ate their curry with more potatoes in the stew along with bread and butter on the side. The Indians originally ate their curry with spiced rice and perhaps naan, flat bread. From Hawaii is is likely that curry stew reached the American West Coast. But it took a long time. Chicken curry stew could be found in the menus of some Chinese restaurants. It appears beef or curry stew did not progress any further from the American West Coast. By the time of this writing, Indian-type curry restaurants are slowly appearing in the U.S. Japanese food restaurants in the U.S. sometimes offer beef or chicken curry stew. There are even Japanese restaurants on the West Coast that specialize in Japanese curry.
I was born round the corner in Heald Place and seeing this makes me want a chicken donner/swaharma in a soft cooked NAAN. not the kind of kebab you get in horrible dry pittas here in Norfolk for twice the price. Thats it I'm moving back home! Just don't serve me pigeon with a side of grass like i got in Egypt XD
As a Muslim myself I particularly enjoyed this video seeing the Islamic community being represented; I find it fascinating and somewhat comical when some of the people spot your camera and turn away, 😁
as a Muslim myself, who lived near there until recently, I found the town quite ugly. The shop fronts are loud and ugly. Why copy the styles of Karachi or Kabul, why not create something unique for England?
It is not much of a curry lovers place as it was 20 years ago. The tastes of the Indian subcontinent (North India and Pakistan) have been replaced by Middle Eastern cuisines including a range of coffee, dessert and shisha lounges. The road is much more diverse now and resembles a less elegant version of Londons Edgware Road. (Just my oppinion).
Your not wrong …. It used to be a place for (mostly) students to be able to enjoy a cheap night out as most of the restaurants were unlicensed and you could bring your own booze …. Anybody remember the Plaza Cafe next to the Blackstock pub on upper brook street …. a mixed Asian/Afro Caribbean vibe, great food and cheap as chips. Used to go to the curry mile after a good night out in central Manchester and have a great meal at 2.00am in the morning ….. happy days …..
@@flyingfox7854 The Plaza was totally unique. Addictive food. various sauces on chicken on the bone straight from the fridge. Always a few tramps who'd hoover up the hotter curries that the students couldn't manage. Terrific place.

That Curry Mile looks terrific almost like an alternative version of the Golden Mile at Blackpool.
If you like your shit to last a mile, he should try filming around the back where rubbish is piled sky high with rats everywhere
