- A stumpy pier, a ruined castle, a very slow funicular railway and plenty of delicious places to eat. There's a lot to enjoy in Aberystwyth in mid-Wales. We visit some of our favourite eateries and show you some of the history of this university town.
HubNut merchandise and support options can be found at hubnut.org - find the main channel at / hubnut if cars are your thing, or stick here if not so much.
Great tour video and very useful. We visited Aberystwyth today on our roadtrip around Wales, sadly Pwdin has closed down much to our disappointment 😭. We wanted to get some of those lovely cakes!
Great video. Miss Hubnut is doing wonders for the Welsh tourism industry. A real natural in front of the camera
The way Miss HubNut says Aberystwyth fills me with delight
That slight twang when she says it 👌
@@itsmephil2255 - Not a twang; she just says it how it should be said. 🏴
@@jhgrees that's very true
I have to add that the street where the cakes were bought is called "Eastgate". That's it just simply "Eastgate", not "Eastgate Street".
That's the correct way to pronounce it.
Miss HubNut has such a lovely way of describing everything, very relaxing and a pleasure to watch these tour videos.
We stayed in Aberystwyth while walking the Wales Coast Path, lovely town.
We arrived via Constitution Hill, fab evening view over the town.
We watched a man on a unicycle riding down from Constitution Hill, we won't forget that.
Brilliant!
Love Aber visiting is great for families with little ones friendly people and some fantastic sea views
Wow - a Reliant Kitten on nice wheels (Minilite or copies of them?). Wonderful video; carry on like this... 😃
Miss Hubnut you fed the Mind, The Soul,& The stomach. Need to return to Aberystwyth childhood favorite spot.
I love you video of Aberystwyth. I have wonderful memories of Aberystwyth in 1986 and 1987 which I look back with fondness and joy.
Miss Hubnut is such a catch, intelligent, articulate and so easy to listen to. Ian one day you may visit NewZealand again but with Miss Hubnut. 🇳🇿
A big THANK YOU for your videos and superb descriptions. My wife and I are from Canada and watched your videos prior to coming to visit Wales.
We are retracing your footsteps and trying all the delightful deserts.
Aberystwyth !!! Visited it practically every Sunday in the 1970s when my parents dragged me along to their Christadelphian church meeting. One of the highlights was one Sunday in the summer of 1976 when the weather was scorching. There was a phenomenon where the porpoises "pushed" the fish right up to the shore. My sister was in the sea and we pointed to the triangular fin approaching here from behind !!!!
When I was little I poured a bucket of water over my grandmother on the beach at Aberystwyth! Great video brings back lots of happy memories of holidays in Wales. Definitely will have to revisit and take in all the history and cakes! Just don`t go sunbathing on the beach when I`m around LOL! Thank you for a great video.
A gorgeous, knowledgable woman. Thank you for the lessons, Miss!
Gorgeous? You're easily pleased aren't you? SavingBob'sPrivates.
History followed by food followed by architecture, some more food then probably some more architecture. A quality item.
Why has she got a mouse down her vest?
I do enjoy Miss HubNut's videos. Informative easy listening. Keep it up, you are a natural in front of the camera.
What a lovely place. Some amazing buildings. Thanks Miss Hubnut.
So many wonderful memories of Aberystwyth from a very young age, I vaguely remember a hovercraft ride from the beach in the early 90's maybe it was just a one off, and many 2 pence pieces spent in the Pier Arcade! Me and my better half spent our first holiday together in Aber stopping in one of the sea front hotels. Always gutted they moved the Vale of Rheidol from the mainline station.
Lovely to see Aberystwyth in the sun, I spent 3 years there as a mature student, fantastic place.
I love these videos Carly! You've got such a natural way about talking to us, when all you can see is a small camera wielded by Ian! I'm looking forward to the next one! :-)
One fly in the ointment, all that walking about, and all that eating! I could cope with the eating, but fear I may have to hire a hefty bloke with a wheelbarrow for transport! :-)
Great video, Miss Hubnut. You're a natural and have a lovely voice.
I've been to both Biarritz and Aberystwyth several times and although the Basque region in France and Spain hold a special place in my heart, I'd choose Aber every time!
We'll be holidaying not far from Aberdovey in a few weeks and will certainly be giving a day over to visit the lovely Aberwysth again. Can't wait!
I Love Aberystwtyh i use to live there with my grandparents i miss Aberystwtyh so much and my grandparents who have both sadly died so Aberystwyth brings alot of memories for me and i remember my grandparents. also my Granddad was a local bank manager there.
Just about 29 years ago I was sitting with friends in Aber castle drinking and soaking in the sun as I finished my uni years there.
If they are like this one and the one you did on New Quay, I would eagerly watch you do West Wales. You have no idea how fascinating this is to an old guy in Ohio with Welsh ancestors. Carry on and best of luck with your channel....
"We'll cut to us eating the cake"
*Enthusiastic thumbs up from Ian*
😂
Another really interesting video. I look forward to the next Miss HubNut tour!
Oh and I’d love to see a video of the estuary at Borth. I know there’s not much there but it is beautiful
Thanks! I really enjoyed your video. It makes me want a holiday in Wales!
Thanks very much ... Our recent visit much enhanced by your knowledge.
Thanks for a very well produced video. We visited Aberystwyth in spring 2019 for a trip down memory Lane ( bit of a challenge in an electric car) and the new promenade was very impressive but we found the lack of seats for old aching legs a bit of a problem, whereas back in the day there were plenty.
A tour of Aberystwyth isn't complete without a visit to Stars or the White Horse pub window... I loved that pub.
I remember Pier Pressure starting up, many an excellent night there but The Bay was my favourite haunt.
I lived on the seafront for a year, loved watching the storms, the wind would howl down there so hard it was impossible to open the front door 🤣
It seems even the sun is coming out more, knowing the Hubnuts are back on one of their idiosyncratic tours! Thanks for the vicarious walks through some lovely places.
It is cute the way you call your kids, “the Hubnuts” - very sweet. I loved my visit to Aberystwyth in 2019.
Thank you for the tour. Fantastic food great history Now I feel hungry.
My dear grandparents took me to Aberystwyth wen i was around 8 or 9 years old .........the beach was terrific soft beautiful sand .......
Thank you for sharing that memory
@@misshubnut ty , I carnt remember what beach it was , but the caravan site was like above it I think or not far , but it was the softest sand I'd ever seen !!
Another interesting video. I have a folding leaf table that was awarded to a Miss Connie Edwards who was a pianist for the Aberystwyth choir in 1953. The table must have travelled all the way along the A44 to where I live in Oxfordshire.
Most Excellent! Thanks for sharing...
Being the Dudley side of Birmingham, Aberystwyth is out go-to seaside town. It is a well kept place with lost of interest and history, and hasn't got run down or tacky like some other holiday destinations. We haven't visited for a year or so for some reason...
I enjoyed your tour and recommendations - thank you Miss Hubnut :-)
Superb! So fluent and pacey. More please.
I rode the train to Devil's Bridge during a visit to England/Wales but I didn't go into town because I had no idea it was so picturesque.
Wonderful day for a tour and picnic. Not been to the town since my son moved back home in 2016
Another brilliant video! All of the family love watching these, well done ! 👍👌
Very interesting, thank you very much. Looking forward to seeing more.
Nearly all my childhood holiday memories are from Aberystwyth we used to have either a tent or in the better years a caravan on sites around the area .My daughter is at the university there now studying marine and freshwater biology . Its an amazing place with so much history and so many good memories for me .
Beautiful scenery, beautiful video, beautiful lady. Win win.
Well done Miss Hubnut, again very relaxed and natural in front of the camera. Aberystwyth looks beautiful even if it did take me 5 attempts to spell it! Love to hear the accent with those rolling rrr’s, it has a musical quality. Wales is truly a hidden gem and you are doing a great job of promoting the tourism but be ready for when Mr. Hubnut is complaining about the roads being overrun with slow driving tourists holding up Tuc or Ellie!
Very nice tour of your corner of the world. Excellent presentation and narration. Tour guide or food vlogger , You are equally adept.
Miss Hubnut is becoming something of a must see for charming snippets
of information about your region of Wales very welcome thanks.
Lovely comment, thank you
I've visited Aberystwyth many times over my life from a small child to grumpy old man lol. Always looked forward to fish and chips from what is now called The Chip Box 4 not tried this incarnation but the original shop did the best fish n chips ever
Informative and charming. Mrs Hubnut is turning into a STAR !!!
Thanks for the video which brought back some great memories. Been to Aberystwyth three time now. First time several years ago, after a visit to South Wales, while travelling north around Cardigan Bay on the A487. En route having discovering the delightful New Quay and then in Aberystwyth having the best ever ice cream flavoured with local honey. Second visit to Aberystwyth many years later to see Steve Harley and the latest incarnation of Cockney Rebel performing at a much more modern part of Aberystwyth University than you showed. Third time actually stayed in Aberystwyth to explore the area but specifically to visit one of the few remaining, and probably the best, Camera Obscura situated on top of Constitution Hill which was accessed by the Funicular Railway you mentioned. Hope you include these in another video in the future. Thanks again for all the effort the family are making with all your videos.
Lovely video on a lovely looking town. And I could almost smell the brownies, they looked so tasty!
Those old buildings as long as thirties decades or earlier !
Amazing !
Lovely video and perfect for my daughter who will be at Aberystwyth Uni from September - entertainment and eateries so important for students!
This part of West Wales has some of the most beautiful beaches. I'm looking forward to my return after these tough times. Thank you. 😎👍
Good video from Miss Hubnut, have many memories,
Another great video 👍 and WOW them cakes looked amazing 🎂
Thank you that was a really good video you are excellent presenter Carly
Brilliant, really enjoying these insights, we love our Hubnut, but this just adds to the pleasure.
Brilliant! Very entertaining.
Thank you Ms H. Please keep doing these vids, they are setting me up for a tour of north Wales perfectly.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Another gem. Keep em coming. My daughter is just finishing her first year in uni film making. She loves the place.
Really enjoyed the video, loved history and food mix...thanks 😊
Hi , I find your videos very informative and entertaining, think you are on a winner with this format
OMG You are Miss HubNat. My son and I are going to the new car museum at Mathlock Bath at the weekend. Great video.
Been a subscriber to Mr. Hub Nut's channel for some time now but am fast becoming a fan of yours also Miss Hub Nut. It's not easy imparting information in front of the camera but you do so with great aplomb and in a very natural way.
Thanks so much.
Thank you very much. Aberystwyth definitely worth a stop
you had my mouth watering when you showed us those cakes.
Been to Aberystwyth many times just for the seaside and never really considered the history the place has! This has been a really interesting and informative video and I have learnt a lot!
Eat "some cake or lots of cake" love it. Thank you for the great installment of Miss Hubnut.
Another great video . Really entertaining and quite charming . Well done miss Hubnut . A super job . Not as easy as you make it look ..
Thanks for sharing the joys of Aberystwyth you might want to consider offering your services to the local authorities.
Great to have such a knowledgeable tour guide! Awesome vid, looking forward to more!
Thank you another good video on tourism exactly what I wanted can’t wait to be there in August as I said before keep bringing these tourism videos they are very good you speak very clear
Brilliant tour of my hometown. So glad to call Aberystwyth home 😁
me to
Excellent, we have only been to Aberystwyth the once but enjoyed our few hours there. Must return soon.
Thank you for your lovely tour.🙏❤️
Very enjoyable Video,Thankyou Miss Hubnut
Keep doing these Wales touring videos, such a lovely place in the world
Thank you showing Aberystwyth on TH-cam. Hope It will bring the tourists.Aber could do with it
I really hope so
I can see that you are a natural teacher. With all those sweet cakes maybe you should do a guide to the dentists of Aberystwyth. I lived there for 3 years at Uni 1978/81 and agree it can be stormy - in a 4 storey hall of residence on the seafront the sea spray would blow right over and hit the inland facing windows when really stormy! The council spent £50k on big rock sea defences - one Sunday morning we woke to find half swept away and the other half dumped on the prom. If you drive up the road behind Alexandra Hall you can cut through and find a great view of the town/coastline. Regrettably a tour of pubs in Aberystwyth would take much less time these days. I had a Hillman Imp and can remember changing the driveshaft rubber rings in the street, getting the cylinder head reskimmed in the University workshops and using the inspection pit curiously to be found in a public park on the Llanbadarn road.
Thoroughly enjoyable, you are such a natural in front of the camera, great stuff
If I ever manage to conquer my fear of driving on the wrong side of the road, a road trip in Wales would be high on my list of things to do and places to see.
I have the same fear, especially at roundabouts
Just go really slow..
@@julienbee3467 Not that many roundabouts in Wales!
@@saxon-mt5by Plenty in Swindon though. Have you seen the Magic Roundabout there?
Lovely stuff, my only previous experience of Aberystwyth was about 5 years ago on a trip North up the coast and invloved a very disappointing coffee & cake stop, glad to see that good food & drink is available, need a return visit now !!!!
Nothing worse than disappointing cake!
@@misshubnut apart from disappointing coffee !!!
Hi from sunny Scotland, love your tour video, very informative, some lovely cakes mmm xx
Glad you enjoy them
Thanks for the tour and amazing architecture. Food food food. I hope to visit your country one day. The sunlight is misleading, looks warm but everyone is dressed for chilly weather.
The wind was decidedly cold that day
Another interesting video, and a foodies one too, keep them coming miss Hub Nut, you're giving me some great places to visit when we come to south Wales next year 😃👍
Travel, history, food, architecture and sea. Loving these videos and Miss Hubnut's exquisite Welsh pronunciation. I really must come and visit your neck of the woods. It looks glorious
Brills - loved that Miss H ... it's a good'un ! Great mix of historical odds'n'sods, geographical gems'n'gen, with enjoyable-eating interludes. Topped off with comic ending. Diolch !
you guys are great, I'm from Liverpool but absolutely love Wales for it's scenery and roads, love how this is narrated, keep it going Miss H ;) Mr. H's camera work isn't bad either. Love it!!!
Love you and Ian and think you have made you have brought an amazing new contribution to the channel
Thank you that's really kind
I love Aberystwyth - the place always has a buzz about it, and some of the buildings are gorgeous! Great tour video again!
Such a great place
That PGCE and all the experience educating the Hublets is paying off, these videos are excellent! I'm already looking forward to the next.
They really do need to visit this region it’s absolutely beautiful specially when the sunshine is of course
Another good one! And yeah, that canopy was well Maddonnaesque, I thought it WAS her at first! 😂😂👍
Thanks for the lovely tour of Aberystwyth, Miss HubNut.👍
Will have to watch Hinterland now, haha!
Good show, very dark though
It looks lovely down there. Never been there, furthest down I have been is Porthmadog. We used to go Clynnog-Fawr for a holiday each year for 10 years but having dogs, we were limited on the distance for trips. Love to go there though.
Interesting travelogue on Aberystwyth, miss Hubnuts a natural .
New fan to this channel (but been following Ian for a good few years (the long-haired years)
Love Aberystwyth as my sister was in Uni in late 90s so was up there a lot... miss Woolworths and Cheap Charlie's
Woolies long gone but Charlie's still going strong!
Had a ride on the Vale of rheideol railway and been to devils Bridge falls, never walked around Aberystwyth and looked at the old buildings
Miss Hubnut's travel videos are the perfect compliment to the car videos.Looking forward to the Hubnut summer family adventures.
We're also very excited!
What a charming lady, and a very interesting tour. Thank you 🖐
