  • A trip to the historic Welsh town of Newcastle Emlyn. A beautiful place with lots of cafes, art, craft shops and charity shops. A town with a history laced with dragons. A beautiful place in the heart of the Teifi Valley. A cameo appearance by ‪@HubNut‬ - And of course there is cake!

What a great video, I left the UK for Italy about 17 years ago, and yet still miss the beauty of the countryside in the UK. Like to see even Ian got a cameo as well. Such a wonderfully explained tour of the local area with plenty of titbits of local knowledge put in for good measure. I look forward to the next one!

Hellan is home of Teife Valley Railway which is the narrow gauge railway built on the remains of the standard gauge railway that used to be there. They are looking at reaching Newcastle-Emlyn but a few years ago it was shutdown to spend money on upgrading the track. They need quite a bit of money to rebuild the once present bridge that was removed when British Railways closed the line so they can actually reach their preferred destination of Newcastle-Emlyn.

40 something years ago we stayed in Llanpumsaint. One day we were moseying along the pavement in Newcastle Emlyn (just where you were at 4:10) when we bumped into our neighbours from 250 miles away in Sussex; neither knew the other was here. At that time the station was still there, although disused. In fact, the track all the way down past Bronwydd Arms was still in situ. Since then the southern bit has been reopened as a standard gauge line but I think the Henllan bit is narrow gauge. We've been to Drefach Velindre several times and managed to create yarn on a spinning wheel. We still have a number of bobbins which I think they were giving away in the early days.
