Do people usually move out to a private accommodation after the first year (eg living with frnds) or do they just apply for university accommodation again? Also What happens when the new batch of first year students arrive? are different batches placed in different blocks of the accommodation or is it mixed?
Yeah, some students move out to private accommodation as it's cheaper sometimes that uni dormitory and also nearer to the town as some of them work part-time. But it's all up to you where you want to live, preference for uni dorm is always given to first-years, no matter bachelor, master or phd. Also, different type of dorm is allocated based on what degree students study or whether they are exchange students. It's all written on the website:) Eg. Pentre Jane Morgan is fully mixed with all type of degrees, and you never know with whom you will be living unless you arrive and see.
Hello, Is it hard to manage part time work and school at the same time? How many hours fo lectures and seminars per day/week freshers usually have? And is there any way to find out who you are going to live with ? Thank you for answers.
Hi, no it's not that hard to maintain work and studies, but it's all up to you how you balance it. Hours for lectures differ according to department. In my business department it's about 3-4 hours lecture a day, sometimes it can be up to 5 hours once a week. And there is no way you know who you live with until you arrive at the dormitory, but you can choose whether to live with boys/girls or friends, just tick this option in accommodation form.
Sorry for late reply! As of restaurants some of my favourites are Fusion King, Mama fay's and Hollywood pizza. Activites are usually based on uni events, need to participate in different socities and stick with Erasmus, they love different parties and traveling:)
I'm applying to Aberystwyth in a few days and I am about to throw up. It is my dream school and I don't know what I'll do if I don't get in. I I have a 3.1 gpa unweighted which makes me worry.
It was my dream uni as well and I went for it! Just apply for the programme of your choice and attach cover letter maybe explaining your desire to study there. Hopefully it will work out well.
Hi I absolutely love your videos! I am scheduled to attend Aber for the upcoming Spring semester (if Covid-19 doesn't change things) I was wondering if I could message you some questions about Aber? I'll be an international student, from the U.S and this will be my first time living on a campus as well so plenty of questions! 😂
Hello, I am from India, and recently got offer letter from the University to study there, even from nottingan trent and Plymouth so should I prefer aber or remaining two, and the main question is is it possible for students to pay uni fees and accomodation by doing part time job there, I am applying for bachelor of computer science???
Hey! Congrats on getting an offer! I’m not sure what are wages now but back then in 2019, students were able to cover some part of expenses, not fully.
Hey, I don't it's allowed. However, right before your arrival uni will send you a guide of what you are allowed to bring and not. As I remember heater and what not are banned. I covered myself with several blankets due to this ban, lol.
I’m not sure about your first question but I can answer the second and third. The accommodation is really good. If you can speak Welsh then you can apply for Pantycelyn which is £167 a week but food is included (£50 worth) The student village (pjm) pentre Jane Morgan is normally around £105 a week but you have to cook for yourself etc; Trefloyne is £95.41 a week and uses self services Cwrt Mawr is the cheapest at £85.40 a week and uses self services Rosser - en-suit is £117.18 a week and uses self services but you get your own bathroom. These are probably the closest you’ll get to a house with like 2 bedrooms downstairs, 4 bedrooms upstairs and a kitchen and dining room downstairs. The most expensive (non speaking welsh) one is Fferm Penglais (en-suit) and is £139.37 a week. These are more or less flat style but still great. There are also Fferm Penglais Studio Flat which involves a kitchen, dining room and bathroom in one. I’m not sure on the price but I highly discourage this one because otherwise you won’t get to meet your flat mates :) Next is seafront (yes houses on the seafront) which is £105.63 a week but I don’t really like this one because it’s quite far to uni and also you may not get a window facing the sea. Part Time Jobs: There are lots of different part time jobs in aber even though it’s small. Most of them will involve working in a restaurant or cafe etc but they shouldn’t be too hard to get with your visa. There is a lot more on the aber website here: aber.ac.uk Anymore questions let me know :) Thanks 😊
I don’t really know much about CS department, but I can say that accommodation is good even the cheapest one. It has everything you need. There were lots of part time jobs available last year despite pandemic, however, now I don’t think so, as many places were closed due to lockdown.
Not at all! Don't worry about that, if you don't drink or you don't want to nobody will force you. Even uni tells students who drink to do it without forcing others.
But then you can always choose private accommodation and turn on heater there, or find uni dorm thy has most hours of heating. As of scholarship they have a few, take a look:)
Yeah, most students work in restaurants, or something similar, and it's not that hard to get a job as you already have a visa and employee doesn't need to worry about that.
dear Thank you very much for you updates me is planning to move for first year in Business Management, because my Ielts score is low, so i'm going to take Pre-Sessional course before my degree program start. but i have my family 2 kids what you will suggest dear?

Hi, @therencho How is your experience in uni so far? Did you opt for aber?
How much on average does it cost to live in student housing on campus?
If it’s uni accommodation it’s between £85-120 depending on the room. All bills and sports center membership are included as well.
Could you bring a heated blanket to plug in?
