  • Did this in one take, so there is some rambling and I missed a few points I meant to make but feel like it covers the basic idea of what to do in Lcea and the camp(s) needed for a steady grind. If you have any questions leave a comment or hop on Test and /tell Xellene. More videos will happen soon and I think they will all be like this. One shot, no edit, just whatever comes out comes out. Later!

While I was thinking wtf on his pet tanking initially, I have learned , as a returning Necro, so many things I was doing wrong. Best videos of maxing dps I have found. Was assuming that mage summoned gear was good, but although his gear list is unattainable by some it does show you what is possible. All in all I appreciate his videos greatly and wish I could find videos this good for other toons I play. If he wants to be critical and you don't like it either suck it up or don't watch it. I could care less if his mic sux or his videos aren't edited the way I would like. This guy has saved my weeks of headaches and wipes and is the only person I am aware of that shows you how to maximize DPS in a clear concise manner. Thank you Sir.

I played ranger and enchanter on luclin back from 2000 through house of thule expansion... So I haven't played in about 10 years, yet I still watch Xellene's Necro videos and sort of figure out how i would try and box it.

I've been playing a Necro since Luclin. Saw your post on Reddit and decided to check out your channel. I want to give some feedback. Take it or leave it, it's free. This might be a bit long. It also might sound a bit negative but that’s not my intent. I just want to give you my perspective, which is from a long time EQ vet of the Necro class.
First off, I like what you're trying to do here because I love seeing more EQ content on TH-cam. That being said, I'd drop the condescending comments such as _"If you can't split a group play something else"_ or _”If you can’t figure this out I can’t help you.”_
These types of comments don’t help your channel, and makes you sound like an elitist, or worse, an ass. Not to mention you’re making content to help them, so saying you can’t help them will potentially make them ask; _“why are we watching you again?”_ Then click off and never return. You don’t want that.
Instead, make a video explaining the process in detail, and teach, instead of insulting. Many things you can teach at level 115, can translate to lower level content for TLP players. Remember people are constantly returning to this game after 5, 10, 15 even 20 year breaks. They may not remember even the basic stuff. Don’t push them away by making comments like that. I mean in this video you literally go on to show how to break a group, so the comment wasn’t even necessary in the first place. Ok, enough on that.
Secondly, make realistic videos. If you're making content aimed at teaching people where to go, and what to do at specific content/levels, then you need to have a realistic example of what players can achieve on live. Live is your target audience, remember this.
Your character gear is fine, like you said, it's more about skill than anything else with a Necro and I agree 100%. The only time this comes into play is how long you can sustain until you need to med. Or when taking on named with loads of HP's, therefore sustain issues can be important if someone lesser gear than you attempts what you’re doing. Keep this in mind when making content, and let players know what you expect. Even go as far as showing, with a rough estimate, how much mana was needed to down said target.
Character gear aside, showcasing level 111-115 spells and a fully twinked out pet with ToV chase gear on 100-105 content is *just a bit* disingenuous. Instead, talk about what appropriate content level DoT's to use, the rotation/order, and how many you need at the level of content you're featuring.
I also play on Test, and I stay away from twinking my pet. This is just my personal choice. But if you’re making content you should also really consider this. Unless you want to explain in every single video why your pet is absolutely face rolling the content you’re trying to showcase. It’s simply not realistic man, and it gives the viewer a skewed sense of reality. They simply will not be able to duplicate this on their home server. And when they attempt it and watch their pet get completely steamrolled they’ll call BS on your content. You don’t want that.
Basically it’s kinda pointless to even showcase it in the first place. That’s my two cp’s on the topic.
Thirdly, and I can't believe I have to mention this, but for pure exp gains, Agro Kite > literally everything else.
Using a merc eats EXP. If you're gonna solo, then solo. The only time you want to pet tank is on mobs that summon which, why bother fighting those unless you absolutely have to? Or on named mobs. Only time you want to root/rot is in really tight areas. But again, there are loads of areas you can kite instead.
For example you can go to Frontier Mountains on the panhandle and agro kite trees, from mid-high 90's to 110. It's probably faster than anything else solo. I can count on one hand how many times I went there and this spot was taken, on Test, or Live.
Once you get better spells you can kite 2-3, then 4-5+ at a time. The reason why Agro kiting is king is due to this. Multiple mobs at a time vs. a single mob at a time.
The Necro creed is literally; _“If it doesn't summon, and you can snare it, you can kill it!”_ The amount of DPS your rogue pet can add with at level Mage pet toys is substantial. You don’t need ToV chase loot for your pet to do this either.
I suggest you try the trees, compare exp per hour in a place like Chardok. More kills, even lower level kills, can potentially yield more EXP than higher level, more difficult mobs that require root/rot (slow AF) or pet tanking (merc EXP leech). To be clear, I’ve never tested this, but I’d be interested in the results.
Ok, finally your video. I haven’t had a chance to watch more of your content but here are some suggestions based on what I saw on your first video.
Do yourself a favor and buy a better mic. You can get headphone/mic combo for less than $100 that will increase your audio quality 10X.
Download DaVinci Resolve 17, it’s a 100% free, no BS, video editing program, that rivals ones you need to pay $300+ bucks for. There are literally hundreds of free guides on TH-cam on how to use it. But basically learn to make simple edits and cuts.
Edited out all the stuff that’s not essential to a video. Loading screens, zones that aren’t needed for context, rambling, etc. Even maybe go as far as importing the commentary after the fact so you don’t need to focus on more than one thing at a time, e.g. playing the game and explaining what’s going on. Even write a script, and memorize it.
I’m excited to see what you do with this channel. I hope I said something you can make use of. If not, that’s fine to, GL, and thank you for giving back to the EQ community.

Ya man appreciate your thoughts. I think my view for what I did with this series of videos and what you expected from them are two different things. I've addressed some of this stuff in later videos / videos that are queued up. I clearly play a different style of game and style of necromancer and that's ok. Happy you watched and really appreciate the comment. There are about 15 more videos coming and maybe you'll enjoy those as well. Later man!

    • @TirpitzLuminare

@@XellenEverquestTestServer It's not about expectations. Its viewing the content from the point of view of another Necro player who knows what's realistically possible and what probably isn't. Or what's disingenuous and what's not. A 105-110 will not kill those Drovlargs anywhere near as fast as you. And that absolutely changes the dynamic of any given camp break or camp. This is 100% due to your pet and 111-115 spells. That's all I'm saying.
I watched the Octave video and thought, _"wow that's actually really impressive."_ The only issue is I don't think it's currently possible to realistically replicate it on Live. I could be wrong. I just don't think there are too many ppl dropping millions of plat on pet gear and then risk that investment in that fight fight with no real reward outside of showing off. To be clear, that was a very entertaining video and I'm excited to see what else you're going to do. Just add a disclaimer is my suggestion. A passing comment about pet having some ToV chase-loot gear doesn't really drive home how *insanely OP* your pet is to a non-pet class, non Test server player. Transparency is my suggestion, simply put it in the video description.
Have you thought about rolling a new Necro and making guides on where to go during the leveling process? There is so little information on this type of stuff online. _"Solo 1-115 as a Necro"_ would be a series I would watch 100% for the nostalgia alone. Veterans sharing info is always a good thing. You do you though man. Take care.

@@andrewburrows7711 I guess, but I feel feedback is important. There aren't a lot of EQ content creators out there. If I said even one thing that helps then it was worth the 15 minutes it took to type it out.

Constructive criticism is always good... but you were a bit unfairly harsh on this guys content which is ironic considering you were chastising him for being to harsh on others. I dont play an necromancer, but I play an S.K in this zone at level 107. I found his explanation of splitting camps to be spot on and great info for players who have been away 5, 10, 20 years
