Elegant design, grand presentation, actually poses physical danger and is clever and ambitious to boot - definitely the finest draconic villain since Smaug in the Hobbit at least.
I mean, just like any Ancient dragon, Umbrasyl can shapeshift into an anthropoid form, in which he would be able to use any piece of weaponry or equipment made for humans...
Matt Mercer sure knows how to play his villians. He was great as craven edge and sylas briarwood too. Hopefully he'll still be playing a villian in the next season.
I like Vorugal and Thordak more myself. I love how Vorugal is almost bear-like, which makes sense, more mass means more body heat. Pretty important for something that lives in cold climates. Thordak is super dignified (for now) and regal, his voice work (RIP Lance Reddick) makes him sound educated and genuinely intelligent.

There's nothing really stand out like with the others, though they still did an amazing job with all of them. Though, I do also think the CGI significantly improved for the dragons after Brimscythe, so that might influence my opinion a bit

actually in the campaign it was a total wash in a sense. Only scanlan went inside Umbrasyl through the wound to come back out and he didnt even do much. Someone whose seen more of it can correct me.
I knew they'd be doing something cool with the dragons the moment I saw how he was handled. He isn't just a normal dragon who breathes acid. His wings rain acid as he flies, and his throat swells like a frog when he's about to use his breath
One of the most seamless blends of hand drawn animation with CGI I have ever seen. I wish they could go back and fix Brimscythe because of how great the Chroma Conclave looks in season 2.
@ it was mundane assel she did what was easily predicted throughout the season just to get soloed within a episode meanwhile umbrasyl was a menace every time he was on screen he pulled up, bitched kevdak and the hoard, took over cities, gave all of vox machina the work for majority of their fights even with vestiges, bodied a sphinx, and overall was a better villain with the help of having generally more screen time. Raishan was only plotting the whole season just to get soloed by keyleth. So yes umbrasyl is much better. Not to mention his abilities were cooler and more efficient
If an acid spitting dragon wasn’t overpowered enough, let’s make him able to turn invisible. And if that isn’t overpowered, let’s make him able to heal. 🤷♂️

Fun thing about Dragons in 5e, should your DM be sadistic enough, they are also capable of using spells, typically as if they were a caster of a level equal to their challenge rating, so Umbrasyl having Greater Invisibility is perfectly within the scope of what he should be able to do
Can't wait for the other dragon battles. Also fun fact, note how Umbrasyl says how 'The woman was right' and nobody bats an eye, the group is completely oblivious towards Ripley.
Probably not. They need to give Thordak and Raishan the screen presence befitting their narrative importance. Still, I do hope they reference Gelidon. Would help explain what Vorugal has been up to during all this. Will be interesting to see where they put him this time. I don't think we have seen any dragonborn in LoVM so Draconia might be Wizards of the Coast property. Will Vorugal still be in Wildmount?
@@kjj26k They were playing pathfinder before the stream, not 5e, and this takes place in Exandria, a homebrew setting of Matt Mercer's creation, not the Forgotten Realms. Draconia isn't wizards' property. However, they also don't have the connection because their dragonborn was entirely written out of the show. So maybe it won't even be in wildemount
That's the nature of dragons. Their greatest weakness is their pride and their vanity, especially when they're winning, because they can't even comprehend a scenario when they start losing.
He has been on that Starscream grind. Besides, it was Ripley whispering sweet nothing's in his ear that got Umbrasyl so arrogant and assured and even interested in the Vestiges in the first place.

I think he may voice the ice dragon but I could be wrong. However his will definitely be present in season 3

Not sure why they changed it (comedic effect , maybe) but at the table they actually just used dimension door to teleport inside the dragon.

Iirc, In the campaign it took them 20 minutes or so to get up to its lair, where the dragon used that time to heal up.
