I’m not even a teacher, but for some reason Kenyon saying that teaching 3rd and 4th grade was horrible because everyone thinks their kid deserves special treatment feels really relatable😂
As an ex 3rd and 4th grade teacher I can’t tell you how much I agreed with him. It sounds ugly but you just have to be in that position to understand what these parents put teachers through

When that woman said “I hope you can teach all kind of children, conservative and liberal”.. that just kinda sums the problem up in a nutshell.. no where else in the world would children be defined by political alignments 😂
You have to understand that America's political culture is the defining factor of what it means to be an American. Someone isn't called Anti-French for a political opinion, but Americans refer to one another as Anti-American all the time. The United States doesn't possess a shared peoples or long history, but it does share a political creed. In other words, the country's an anomaly from a historical standpoint.
"no where else in the world would children be defined by political alignments" ? Have you been to several other countries to qualify that statement? Happen REGULARLY in Brazil. Same as it does here, esquerda vs direita, and what curriculum these politically aligned families and children agree on.
Yeah… but, there are kids with conservative parents teaching them conservative morals. These kids are going to school where they get shunned by students and worse by faculty because of their conservative beliefs. Beliefs that they have been taught to follow by their parents. Vice versa. There are kids that come from liberal households following liberal morals. They also go to schools, they are also treated differently if they are in a conservative school. The true issue is that schools are becoming more liberal leaning. They are focusing on teaching from a liberal perspective. Which it wouldn’t be a problem if there weren’t actively shaming people who are not liberal. There are many jokes about creationism. Creationist are idiots for the most part. It’s discouraging. It’s unkind. It frankly wouldn’t be acceptable if the tables were reversed. That’s the true issue. Schools don’t have a true neutral ground. Biology is taught at schools but not creationism. Biology is “important.” Creationism, you can learn more about that on your own time outside school. Which wouldn’t be too much of an issue but then LGBTQ+ is “important” for students to learn, when before it was in the learn-in-your-own-time outside school category. While I agree the US might be the only place where kids are labeled by their political POV, other countries have mastered their indoctrination process of the youth. [>
Especially when those parents have no healthy relationship with their own sexuality, have all sorts of shame and suppression, judgment and fear from dogmatic religious upbringings
Well maybe we can start by discouraging everyone except parents to teach it and instead encourage parents to teach it. Maybe realizing parents are the first people to teach it, not the last.
@@jeremysmith9694 Parents already are encouraged to teach it, but most Christian parents(and maybe other religions, as well) still don't. Encouraging them to teach it isn't going to solve anything.
So many parents don't, and so many pro-lifers think abstinence-only sex education is the answer, even though that has been factually proven to make matters worse and increase the number of abortions. Pro-life people do not care about fetal lives, they just care about virtue signaling. It's so disgusting.
that would be interesting considering conservative teachers are generally a lot more rare than liberal teachers. i think that the environment of education not only attracts a lot of already liberal people but causes people to become more liberal. so conservative teachers are generally very strong in their beliefs and i’ve found they often end up teaching at private religious schools because they end up disagreeing with the generally more inclusive environments of public schools (especially in cities/blue areas)
We're using FLORIDA as the standard? Lolz... better choices? What part of Florida? Maybe key west? I live and teach public school in Florida. These parents are so wrong.
Sex Ed is 2+2=4. When I was in school we learned how to have safe sex. The conversation doesn’t need to go beyond that. Anyone who gets pregnant in the vast majority of cases do so because they chose not to follow safe sex out of their own personal greed.
I didn't learn about sex until after I had been sexually assaulted. If I had learned about it earlier, then I could've done something, told someone, and had the abuse stop earlier than it did, because the day after I had my first sex ed class, I went to my school counselor, told her what had been happening for years, and she was able to stop it within that week. We need to talk about this stuff, because if your kid's don't know, they won't be able to stop it.
Do you feel that some of the people opposed to sex ed oppose it partially because themselves or at least someone they know personally has assaulted people who are underaged, so they're worried about themselves or others who they know not being able to take advantage of the youth?
Exactly. Kids need to learn about their bodies so they can communicate if something happens to them. When parents get defensive like this, saying only they should introduce this stuff to their children ... it sets off alarm bells in my head. Talking about your body isn't bad and gives kids strength if they're ever being violated. Because they need to be educated on what violation/consent is in the first place.

Add financial literacy course for high school and basic life skills. Teach kids how to read and understand financial documents, how to make some basic meals, how to make a budget, so many people have no clue on some of those things once they leave their parents.

Boys learn different from girls but are forced into learning the girls Way.
I would like to point out that the 2nd question was "discussion about sexuality doesn’t belong in school," and all the conservative parents acquainted sexuality to, the act of sex which are not the same at all
In terms of sex Ed, it should be talked about starting from middle schools. Especially with the newer generation. I went back to my middle school and found out these kids were having unsafe sex & doing drugs, stuff that I never touched or knew how to do. The amount of kids willingly looked up these things and how to do them is ridiculous. THATS what happens when you don’t educate or answer these questions. Agreed, but the moment teachers try to teach kids about safe sex/ contraception it's always met with ridicule but yet are shocked when their kid becomes a parent at a young age
Agreed. I don’t think LGBTQ+ communities should be spoken about in kindergarden (lol my cousin’s girlfriend thinks so), but in middle school is fair game
Exactly. It's the same mentality of parents who think abstinence-only sex education is the answer, even though this has been factually PROVEN to increase the number of unwanted pregnancies, and abortions.
@@lunarialoonatic In general sexuality shouldn’t. But the mention of “hey there’s a dad and a mom” or “there’s two dads”! “in this story the two mothers”
Delusional parents. As a child I was exposed to so many adult topics that I didn’t understand and couldn’t process. If those conversations took place in a safe and informative way in schools, those things wouldn’t have effected me in such a detrimental way. Sex, drugs, sexuality, racism, it should all be discussed so children don’t grow up with a warped view of the world. I’m not suggesting anything explicit or graphic, just knowledge that those things exist and how to go about the world safely. That knowledge can’t negatively effect a child the way unsolicited exposure can.
And that's the problem with these parents they think that everyone in the world is going to have the same frame of mind/ thinking as them but that's not what's going to happen. When their kids get older they are going to have different experiences and viewpoints thrown at them from different parts of the world that will challenge them but these parents don't see it like that.
THIS. Kids are exposed to many adult and inappropriate topics anyway, and most of the time is the parent's fault who talk about those things at home. The way a kid is exposed to those topics makes the difference, and we all know there are different levels of explaining or introducing topics based on the age of the individual. Teachers are the ones who know how to create a safe space for these topics to be discussed. Unfortunately, most parents don't because they only care about raising miniature versions of themselves.
Idk if you was paying attention to the vid but I’m pretty sure the parents acknowledge that. The problem was the line being cross with these conversation that’s leading it to be more explicit especially with the sex talk. Your the only delusional one here thinking the world revolves around you just cuz you had different experience then the other kids who growing up without the need of schools pushing these conversation who turn out just fine learning these topics themselves as they get older
When the blonde one said "unless you kiss a boy how do you know you are gay"? I have always known, I was always aware, I never had to kiss a boy to discover that part of me. I was out for 2.5 year before I kissed my first bf.
I think you are proving her point. She is saying that kids are being told to experiment. You know what you know. You didn't need to kiss someone of the opposite sex to know you didn't like them. She is saying that children are being asked how do they know they aren't homosexual/queer/bi/trans/etc. if you haven't kissed someone of the same sex. Children are being prompted to try different things rather than being able to decide for themselves. The sad thing is de-transitioners are being shamed when they realize they made a mistake, because someone told them to. Of course, this is not true in all cases. Some transition without being groomed, and then realize they have ruined their bodies. Sorry if I misunderstood your comment.
@kwuagga5484 I wouldn't know, but I have no reason to doubt the woman in this video's story. That is the part of the video that I was commenting on. She could be lying, but I doubt it. Of course, my story is anecdotal, so you can believe it or not, but a friend of a family member went for counselling and was told they were suffering stress from their car accident because they wanted to be the opposite sex. Fortunately, I don't have children in the school system, but I am sure there is more going on than people would like to believe. They are trying to pass a law where I live that bars teachers from telling parents if their children are questioning their sexuality. The ones that don’t are working at tiny schools with little to no funding.
If there hadn't been sex ed in school I would have never stopped being sexually abused. Many parents who sexually abuse their children opt out from having their kids in sex ed. These parents are so focused on their individual child they don't even think about the benefits of those classes.
Consent (as it pertains to physical boundaries) is a very important subject - centered in Sex Ed - to teach to young children, because it helps them understand when it's inappropriate for someone they don't know (or feel uncomfortble with) to touch them. It doesn't even have to be an explicit learning session, as it often times just involves a doll and pointing to certain "No-no" places that the kid shouldn't allow someone they don't trust to touch. It's especially important because often times, these young children are abused by members in their family, which could even include the parents. Having those children learn about this form of consent literally helps in protecting them from the beginnings of abuse, or continuation of it.
not letting your child be exposed to other types of thinking and other ways of being because you're scared that they will figure out who they are when you're not looking... that is what abuse and a controlling parent looks like from the start
This is literally the definition of indoctrination (The ACTUAL definition), not letting your kids see any other belief and forcing them to stick to one, without question.

If you don’t want your child to have a communal education, why would you put them into a school system that is literally paid for and influenced by the community. Public school isn’t going to reflect your home, it’s going to reflect the general PUBLIC. if you have a problem, homeschool your kids and stop blaming these teachers, who are government workers, for following guidelines voted on by the public.
Also some parents care about the education system and not just they’re single child. Parents wanna make a difference in the system not let it sit there and rot with the students inside it
Ur now just saying whatever is being taught upon the child, nonetheless the teacher shouldn't be blamed upon just because they're following what the government is ordering them to do. I agree but I would say, do not make the mistake as a black parent sending a kid to an all white school. My daughter hated her school and the town had an history. That is true, but that is not an excuse to allow schools to teach whatever they darn well please. That's the same as saying that people are going to commit crimes, so we should just legalize everything so that there is no crime. Also, you don't want kids learning about sexuality or sex in schools and you won't teach them about it, they're going to go to the internet and find out themselves which is even more unsupervised and possibly more dangerous.
Same - I think thats why parents are freaking out. They don't want their kids to access a diversity of ideas, because they want to control how their kids individuate.
I think the missed point by the parents here is that kids will always tell anyone what someone else said. They aren't doing it in order to 'tattle' on them or 'make a big deal'; they are trying to figure out the world and the largest 'authority' figures in their life are giving new or conflicting information and they legitimately just want to know what's what. Interesting who's indoctrinating who here.
Pronouns are ridiculous because there are only 2 genders. You can easily tell just by looking at someone they are a binary sex and there is nothing they can do to change that. When pronouns become a very prominent thing, then it can limit speech because when we call them by the wrong pronouns, they can cancel us
The problem the parents are mentioning is not what the schools are indoctrinating their kids with, but the fact they are indoctrinating. Parents will probably indoctrinate their kids aswell, and they know it, and they are FOR it. Their fight is so that schools only teach things such as maths and english, and not ideologies. Ideologies, or indoctrination should be thought by the parents, that's what they are fighting for.
Its not their job. If a kid brings up sex you call home or you give it to the teacher or counselor that's in charge of sex ed. We had a kid in school who talked about sex (acts) and gender. Being that the potential dangers of this have been completely overlooked for the past decade, parents need to be more prepared to discuss current things their kids might come across and how to deal with it, rather than blaming their ignorance on teachers or LGBTQ+ people. If kids don't feel comfortable enough discussing things with their parents, it's usually because the parents failed somewhere to provide a proper environment of trust and support imo.
Especially more so when the "conversation" in need of having, has been "haved" for decades at this point, but very little action is committed to the fruits of those conversations. Ultimately leading back to "us needing to have this conversation".
It’s not being had between parents and teachers everywhere, is what they mean. I think that sometimes liberals say that these things aren’t happening in classrooms, but as a student, I can confirm that in sixth grade I was shown gay sex. It’s really messed up what they are teaching.
As some others have said, a lot of the more sexually explicit content the parents are talking about comes from friends, social media, internet, etc., not the school. The parents just choose to attack and try to police the school because, at the end of the day, it's a lot harder to control what their child is viewing or who they are hanging out with when they're away for eight hours a day.
But the school "cosigns" the nonsense the child is learning from culture by reinforcing it in the classroom. Parents don't want you to do that. Just teach to the four corners of the book. Reading. Writing and Arithmetic. Parents can handle the rest.

The fact that these parents don’t trust us to teach their kids responsibly but would trust us to carry a firearm around their children is blowing my mind.
How is that blowing your mind? - Is it reasonable to say that if someone was a visible gun threat, the teacher would be able to recognize that? - Which is a large contrast with the teachers near complete inability to recognize that their own ideological biases is a threat to the children-parents' ideological origins. That's what these parents trust, and I'm saying this as someone who is vehemently against armed teachers. Then again, about the former... even THAT liberal school personal has managed to screw up. A few weeks ago in Cleveland, 2 school vice-principals opened the school's doors to 3 armed gunmen to "protect the black men from the cops". That reckless behavior then prolonged the altercation for a further 30 minutes. It's hard to gain parents' trust when even THAT low of an ideological bar is screwed up.
I had the same exact thought. They don't trust their children's teachers with certain books but trust them with a deadly weapon around their children... I'm confused.

From someone who grew up in the Florida school system and had children in it as well. Their schools are some of the worst in the nation. And Florida becoming "redder" did not help in the slightest. it's funny to me that parents think it's normal to pull a kid out of public school cuz they dont agree with whats being taught even if it's necessary and true. going to school in a way is a glimpse of the real world. youre gonna meet all kinds of ppl and learn how to interact with them. u cant do that if school is at home.
Going to Public school is the definition of living in a bubble. You have class with the same 20 kids every school year, with kids who all think the same, act the same. They aren’t exposed to much.

Yes that is WHY this is SO important

It’s not being had between parents and teachers everywhere, is what they mean. I think that sometimes liberals say that these things aren’t happening in classrooms, but as a student, I can confirm that in sixth grade I was shown gay sex. It’s really messed up what they are teaching.
Quisha... can I call you Candace?
Quisha is based
As some others have said, a lot of the more sexually explicit content the parents are talking about comes from friends, social media, internet, etc., not the school. The parents just choose to attack and try to police the school because, at the end of the day, it's a lot harder to control what their child is viewing or who they are hanging out with when they're away for eight hours a day.
It’s also different for adults in position of authority to be exposing kids to this versus peers. There’s a big difference.
But the school "cosigns" the nonsense the child is learning from culture by reinforcing it in the classroom. Parents don't want you to do that. Just teach to the four corners of the book. Reading. Writing and Arithmetic. Parents can handle the rest.

Going to Public school is the definition of living in a bubble. You have class with the same 20 kids every school year, with kids who all think the same, act the same. They aren’t exposed to much. Homeschooling though? My homeschool friends travel the world with their kids.
