Hi Jody im Wayne Auntie Paula will now who i am . I am a big fan of your dad :) im a tribute player to him please say hello to her send her my love and to your family ,please let me know when you get this message , what a band what a dad :)
Jody - I knew your dad. My late brother in law was Andy Chapin who was playing keys when the plane went down. David Morgan, the previous keyboard man who gave Andy the gig is one of my closest friends. Bobby was a wonderful man, one of the funniest dudes on the planet and it is tragic that your brother's life was cut short.
Ricky Nelson died just two years after this live performance, at age 36. What a shame that such a talented performer would pass away at such a young age.
I was just a preschooler back in the day, but I had a MAD crush on Ricky Nelson. I don't know how many times I asked my brother to either play the record or sing the song when his band performed. I was so happy when he formed the Stone Canyon Band.
@Greg Normal Oh my goodness, Im a fan of Rick Nelson, and of course the Nelson Family. When Rick sung Fats Domino's I'm Walkin "on Nationwide Television, I was to be born 2 months later .Growing up,my older siblings and I watched Ozzie and Harriet every week . Thank you and you have a great night and stay safe as well.
Sad; Rick was really getting it together in the end; he looked so good there; so young and his voice had not lost a thing; too too bad we lost him !!!!

Geeez..... so heartbreaking for me to watch. I saw him in concert in the late 70's... I loved every minute and have never forgotten how special it was to see him (I was close to the front row). What a view ~ he was so handsome and his voice was mesmerizing.
I was in the car when the radio interrupted saying Ricky Nelson has died in a plane crash on his way to Dallas to do a New Years Eve concert. I just pulled the car over and cried. He was like family we grew up watching him on the Nelson show and he was so polite so handsome.
Now that was a dam good live performance. I loved the simplicity of those songs from that time. It's DeJaVu I was growing as young boy those were hot tunes back then and still are. Its a real shame his passing and the way it went down.
This is my favorite song of all time! Thank you for posting! I saw Rick many times in San Diego and enjoyed every performance! Check out his son's Matthew & Gunnar doing this song & you'll love it too! R.I.P, Rick and thanks for all your wonderful music!
Wonderful! Belonged to his FAN CLUB waaaay back - 50 years ago. Still love his music and it is some of my favorites - especially Fools Rush In. Thanks for posting.
Forever my teenager years IDOL. I loved this guy and his songs. It has been over 60 years I have been listening to Ricky. R.I.P.....you immortal artist ! Talk about nostalgia....
Loved hearing & seeing his beautiful self here! It’s fun to see Rick & Bobby Neal goofing around a bit & Gordon Stoker laughing! Rick was happy & had so much going for him! They all did! 😘🌺♥️
Rick was at his best for this show along with the SCB. The Jordanaires played that night with Rick and added to the excitement. It was a young crowd who knew all his music. Not a soul left the place before he finished. Rick stood after the show signing autographs with his main sidekick Bobby Neal. He is gone but it is videos like this that will make us all remember the good times Rick left us. He truly was the Crown Prince of Rock and Roll.
@@mattfried9332 no, Bobby Neal, who sadly, also, died in the crash at age 38. He learned to play songs just like James Burton for Rick’s shows! They had such great commradary!
Idolized him from the time I first saw him sing on O & H. Met him in the parking lot of Studio Instrument Rentals in Hollywood in 1977. Sweet and humble a man as you'd ever meet....
That is the absolute truth. Met him several times under random circumstances. Humble. Absolutely sincere. And effing supremely talented. We lost a good one...
I had the honor of meeting him in Houston shortly before the plane went down. He was truely a Man of character and down to earth. I asked him WHY do you keep performing because am sure you could retir.. He said as long as fans want him out there he will still be there.
I always thought that Tom Cruise was successful mostly because he looked like Ricky Nelson. Ricky was in the vein of Roy Orbison, in that he didn't need a lot of gimmicks on the stage to make a memorable performance. If the material is good all you need to do is give it, unadorned, to the audience. Pretty songs and a smooth pleasant voice with a lot of experience behind it. The good die young because no matter hold old they are when they die, its to soon.
To rephrase what everyone else is saying, he really did mature as performer. Much more passion, much more feeling, much more musicianship, much more vocal control, much more everything than when he was a kid. But normally, you would expect that. Fifty years from now, when people look back on the popular music of this period, I think performances such as this will garner far more attention and interest than other things which are considered much more cool, hip, or whatever, today.
i want to truly thank all of you for your personal comments about rick nelson... im very big on humility and it was so nice to hear he had it in abundance..
This is another great song by Ricky! I really wish I could of had the chance to see him, but unfortunatly I was only a baby when he died. He was great!
He didn't have the greatest voice, but he did have unique style. His voice was very boyishly sexy/ Too bad we lost him so young in life. His looks held up too over the years.
This video was done at the Genesee Theatre, Waukegan Illinois in February 1983. It was a very windy and cold sub-zero night in the Chicago area at the time. The opening act if I recall was a great local 50's tribute band named the Hubcaps who drove up in a '57 chevy outside the theatre. They gave a great opening show but the best was to come when Rick went on stage. The highlite was when the band stood back and Rick picked up the guitar and sang solo on Lonesome Town. RIP Rick
The contestants on American idol & the voice should research the artist male and female from the 40's through the 70's they had natural style charisma voice and enunciation of the words with heart felt soul and didn't have to perform half naked to get attention but were sexy in a tasteful sense. As far as Ricky Nelson is concerned he was great in his own right !!
Is no one going to talk about how that absolute dork tapped the guitarist on the shoulder and made him look the other way? I love him so much I swear he cracks me up sometimes. Lol
Jody Neal, mentioned it, that was Jody’s dad Rick tapped...Bobby Neal! Gordon stoker’s son, Alan, mentions it as his dad broke out laughing (1 of the a Jordanaires wearing glasses) & so did I! They had great commradary! 😊
Rick came to Australia not too long before his death. I tried to get a ticket to see his concert, but sold out solid. I'm sad I never got to see him in person..
they of today will never have what we had and saw, back then from yesterday, i say piping a tear, because its such ashame it all got lost, and developing of so much corruption and a load of nothingness really. all my love to rickys family.
GREAT! This is what we needed on here! More Ricky Nelson Live. Truly one of the greatest that ever lived and no doubt at his best in the end. We miss ya Ricky. RIP! Thanks Jesmetric for the tunes .. love them all. Hope you have more.
In all other performances when the guitar segment comes in, Rick takes off his jacket while it's playing. Just like this one! Great song though and a little different voice than when he first did this when he was younger! The guitar riff is EXACTLY like he did it in the original recording.
Sadly, all the members of the band died with Rick and his girlfriend in that DC-3 crash December 31,1985. Andy Chapin, 33, pianist, Rick Intveld, 22, drummer, Bobby Neal, 38, guitarist, and Patrick Woodward, 35, bassist. 😢

I know what you mean. I’m sorry for our losses, but think of all the fun we had with our moms! 💗
Loved Rick Nelson. This was his greatest song, followed closely by Travelin' Man.
Ricky Nelson was extremely good-looking and had a beautiful voice!
Loved this song and the whole Nelson crew. He was an amazing artist
Ricky Nelson died just two years after this live performance, at age 36. What a shame that such a talented performer would pass away at such a young age.
Ricky Nelson was 45 when he died.
jesmelric My apologies for the error. Somehow I mis-read his year of birth as being 1949 instead of 1940.

He danced in High School & was very good.
