Great video most of the video folk have a lot of expensive equipment and it’s a little overwhelming and discouraging to say the least. You have shown it can be done without breaking the bank and or on a budget and comfortably. Thank you for sharing.
You’re a genius… or as I tell my son…. You’re a smart fart! I have a softopper as well and I’m looking for a simple sleep setup. Your setup is perfect.
😂😂 my dad has definitely called me a smart fart before lol. I honestly have loved this setup, I have used it a ton and works so well. Sometimes simple is best!
Call me weird but that light is my favorite item on your rig! cause we all have our own styles when it come to building out a camper thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing your ideas. It sure is inspiring to get out and get into nature and not needing to spend a whole boat load of cash when it was always supposed to be minimalistic.
Great set up, simple but effective, I like that. I found some ideas for my Renault Trafic van that I convert in a simple camper. Greetings from Luxembourg / Europe. 👍👍
Am Using the same Gym foam flooring as a leveling sleeping platform with 2in folding Gym instead of the cot and 3in folding mattress for my No Build Suv Camper and I love Your kitchen setup i kinda have cheap one from Temu
That sounds like a nice setup! I've seen a few different kitchen organizers like the one from camp chef. As long as they store your gear and you can cook on them then it works well!
Nice setup! I ordered a Softopper, just waiting for it to arrive. I would definitely be interested in a video showing how you made the magnet mesh screen! Good stuff!
Awesome! I'm excited for you! This was my first trip with the mesh screen and it worked awesome, just going to tweak a few things. That video will be coming up in the next few weeks!
Great to see this. I have a similar setup with with my SofTopper on my GMC Sierra. I need modular as well. Camp Time cot works well for me. It sits over the wheel-well wasting no space and sits just a little higher than yours and allows me to store my gear in 2 Front Runner storage boxes under the cot along with my Buddy heater and tackle box. I use the midsize folding Kovea camp table and extend a tarp off the end of the bed over the rear of the SofTopper, staked out using Elephant poles. Very convenient and comfortable. Thanks for the video
Your setup sounds perfect! I like that your cot fits over the wheel-well. Luckily with the full sized pickup I don't feel cramped for space even though my cot isn't tall enough to go over the wheel well. I like your tarp idea and elephant poles! Thanks for sharing your setup, I love to hear it! Cheers!
Hi guys, I've been looking at the softtopper, and haven't seen anyone review how well it does at keeping dust out. Sounds like it's pretty good for rain, but how about dust when you're going on a long dirt road drive? Thanks!!!
@@adamhall6247 I haven’t been on any dusty trails. I’m in the eastern woodlands and beaches. I imagine you would have similar issues as any other topper as far as dust is concerned. The tailgate is the problem.
That would be sweet! All of softoppers stuff is assembled in the United States so you might reach out to them and ask if they could manufacture something to fit your trailer!
@@TregsTravels I just moved to the Oregon Coast from Kansas. I Lived there for 43 years and this was my first and last move but what an amazing place this coast is. Anyhow housing here is few and far between, so I think I do something similar on my Dakota. A little smaller than yours but I can adapt. Thank you for a great starting point. Jason
Awesome built! Simple and pragmatic is great. What's the inflatable lamp brand?? ❤😂 I'm sold. I pretty much have everything sorted out, but this lamp 🔦
very nice! another great informative video. looking forward to see how you put that mesh in, I just got back today from my trip and adding that mesh is going to be perfect for ventilating here in az.
Nice setup thinking about doing mine. I have the 6.5 bed with a fast top soft top so dont need the extension part. Have you thought about trying lining the top with reflective? Man I sat in the back of mine how old on a 80 degree day. Man it was hot as hell back there. I was trying to think of some kind of cooling system. I’ll have shore power where I go. I like the screen how did you rig that up?
Yeah I've thought about doing the reflectix but I take my topper off or fold it down so much I didn't want to deal with it...as long as it cools down at night then I sleep really well back there! I usually camp in the Utah/Idaho mountains so it cools down at night. The mesh screens have helped a ton though, if I park in the shade and there's a breeze then I can take a nap back there on a hot day no problem! Here's the video where I show how I made the screens: th-cam.com/video/5uldnNziAr8/w-d-xo.html
I have the same color pickup as you. Black softtopper looks best, but i wonder about the heat in the sun like you mentioned. Happy with your color choice?
Yeah even with the extra heat I'm still really happy with the black! Honestly, since I added the mesh windows on the sides the heat doesn't bother me at all. There's only a few weeks in the summer in Utah and Idaho where the heat gets really bad. I try to find a shady spot for the daytime and it always cools down at night 👍
Mr. Treg sir I’m digging the mesh insert you’ve added. I know I had spoken to ya about this top somewhere along the line & I’m about to pull the trigger on this soft top for my rig. How’s the top holding up so far? Also do you have a link to the adding the mesh to the topper sides? I dig the simplicity of say not having windows on the sides. Makes for not only a cleaner look but also I’m sure over time the windows tend to cloud up or get scratched ups bit. Thanks for sharing your insights on this topper.
Hey Knuckledrag! The topper is solid, I haven't had any issues with it at all. I just took it out for a week long camping trip and it was perfect! I agree about the windows, the mesh works perfectly to keep the bugs out and still give you the air flow.
looks great man. How does the topper do in the rain? Do you basically put the gate down and set the tent on the back to sleep? I have the ram short bed so its hard to fit with the gate closed but this looks like it could work
The topper has been great in the rain! I don't get any water in there at all. Yeah the tent on the back works very well! I'm currently editing a video comparing the DAC tent extension and the Topper Tent so stay tuned! I hope to have it done by this next weekend
Been wanting to order a softopper for a couple of years now. Think I’ll finally pull the trigger on it. Seeing your bikes also makes me want to get one or a dirt bike too lol. Do you haul them on a trailer or hitch rack?
I've really enjoyed the SofTopper so much, I don't think you'll regret it! Yeah I have a hitch hauler that I'll haul them with too...usually if I'm just taking one bike then I'll put it on the hitch hauler but if I'm taking both of them I'll load them in the back of the pickup. The sofTopper is just so versatile, it gives you so many options!
Thank you! I love camping in it. The softopper is in perfect condition! I run it through the touchless carwash about once a month and every 3-4 months I clean it with 303 surface protectant. It keeps it looking brand new and doesn't fade!

Great vid, thanks for the ideas. I have those gym flooring tiles in my garage and never thought about using them in the truck bed, that's awesome.
They work so well! It saves your knees from kneeling in the hard truck bed plus give you some insulation from the cold
