Review - Harbor Freight 20oz Gravity Feed Blast Gun

  • I originally purchased this Central Pneumatic brand sand blaster gun to remove rust from my motorcycle frame, but I had a larger job to do on ceramic tile and brick so I review how well this small 20oz gravity feed blast gun held up and offer some thoughts on which air compressor is right for use with this sand blaster. I also discuss various blast media such as glass bead and walnut shell.

    Rather than spend on a large compressor it's often convenient to add smaller compressors and connect them. While I use 3/4" air hose and Chicago couplings for my two industrial 5HP units you can run smaller hose between compressors and add all the extra tanks you desire for longer blasting before waiting for the air supply to catch up. The biggest inconvenience when home blasting is lack of air.

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and for adding your insights here. Agree, lack of air is the limiting factor, but if this gun received more air, the next limitation is the hopper size which drains pretty quickly. In the end, for folks who already own a modest sized compressor at home and need to blast on an infrequent basis, this thing is hard to beat for the $.

      I was happy I did, though I did get sand in my hair. Definitely wear some goggles that seal in your eyes. It gets everywhere. Worked great on my motorcycle frame though. 3 years later the new paint on my frame is looking great.

    I think these guns agre great for using Bicarbonate of soda, or soda crystals on wood or cleaning alloy wheels. For removing rust you need a harder grit, but it then could etch your tile or glass surface, which you probably don't want. So my feeling is you need to choose the media carefully for the job and to suit the gun design, or use a different blast gun and higher pressure than 90 psi.

      I really can't answer that with any confidence. I've never used that specific compressor. Mine was under sized and still managed to get a big job done, but I made sure to give my compressor rests to cool down. A person could use the logic that if the HF compressor you mentioned has similar specifications to mine, it would work. However, the quality of the components used to make the two compressors could differ and therefore that approach will not answer the question either. Depends size of your job and how much time you take to do the job.

    '5hp' on the side of your air compressor, 120v 15 amps, how? Is that 5hp 'peak horsepower' or something? The math of that doesn't work out- you can't get that hp. out of 120v * 15 amps. Thanks for the informative video!

      @@UrbanMonkTV My area of Southern California has a high calcium reading. I brush the sides of my glass tile every week. There are water companies that will process pool water to get all the calcium out of your pool. It takes about 24 hours and they leave their truck overnight to process the water. It’s not cheap. It’s $800-1200 to do the job.

    Would play sand from Lowe'swork with this gun seeing that's it's so cheap by 50# bag?

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question. Without actually trying it, it would be irresponsible of me to simply say yes, but from what I can see it should work. I believe the keys will be the moisture content of the sand and the size of the particles. Any wetness causes the gun to clog up and the purpose-made sand is very fine.

    • @rcawesome4123
      @rcawesome4123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wait a second..why wouldn't you use something like acetone and a scrub brush to remove scale on your pool walls? And why on earth would you remove base material from the surface of the pool walls with an abrasion application?? Your ignorance of masonry is prevalent as you successfully removed the glazing from the surface of those tiles that give them the qualities they're being utilized for to begin with.. This is beyond lazy and enters into the realm of ignorance. Thumbs down for misleading those not inclined to having basic common knowledge of general topics at their disposal. Please don't make any more videos without researching the content first.
