In this episode of Motorcycle Rewind, we're diving back into the restoration of our 1965 Honda CB450 K0 Black Bomber. We've got a lot on our plate today, and we're excited to share the process with you.
First up, we'll be putting on some brand new tires to give this classic ride the grip it needs. Then, we'll mount the exhaust system and get those iconic pipes looking and sounding great.
We'll also tackle the brakes, ensuring they're up to the task of bringing this beauty to a safe stop. And of course, rust removal is a big focus - we'll be scrubbing, sanding, and buffing to make the Black Bomber shine again without going for a full repaint.

I like the way you work Eric. I would have probably spent a day on each fork leg. No wonder it takes me forever to restore a motorcycle!
Yours probably look a lot better than mine. 🤣😂🤣 thanks for watching.
Some sanding and cloud silver would be my vote on the fenders. Being painted fenders, filler could be used to bring the fenders back to look new again! That’s just me and my OCD kicking in - lol.
😂🤣😂 my OCD would kick in and the snowball would start heading downhill.
The bling treatment is coming along awesome.
Its the little things that make such a difference
Looking good. As far as paint goes once something gets painted everything will need to get painted, or it will look off. I like how it's looking with the old paint. Very nicely done front fender.
I agree. It’s a slippery slope.
oh so much better i think you’re right do enough to save but not over do it that’s up tooo new owner what you do is give it life ❤
This one is coming along nicely. Thanks for watching.
Loving it!! My vote is don't paint. Projects always take longer than expected. I'm just trying to get what little Iv removed back on (to paint frame) and focus on electrical. 🤙 Thanks for sharing Eric!!
This bike is responding nicely to a little attention. Can’t wait to ride it.
Finally got a day to take the klr out so I'll have to tune in later.
enjoy your ride
I think it looks great! Keep it original. It's earned It's scars!
They tell its story. Thanks for watching.
I'd clean off some of that inner wheel rust best I can - and then spray on some Fluid Film, which stops rust and doesn't adversely effect rubber.
Have to lokk for some of that
Mufflers and wheels looking great!
Came out so good.
Looks good as is
Definitely coming around. Thanks for watching.
I love that old stuff! Nice to see that it's un molested!
I like to keep original paint whenever I can. Thanks for watching.
It's looking great, Eric! I believe you said this is someone else's bike. If so, maybe ask them if they want it painted? That's obviously something you can't undo later. Personally, I'd paint the fenders and side covers black, and ride the wheels off that "black bomber."
I think it has a better story with a little patina. Thanks for watching.
Great job. Looks good as it is, but I would be very tempted to paint the guards and covers black to match the tank.
I could see it the other way. Paint the tank silver to match everything else. Thanks for watching.
Look great
It is coming along nicely. Thanks for watching.
A Bag of Sand as a Base helps with Planishing Dents out...
Every time do this I think I need to get one. 🤣😂🤣
I think painting the fenders should be proportional to the rest of your restoration.
Everything else is gonna look so good, might as well shoot on a coat of paint on them.
I agree. I am gonna have to see it on the road first.
If the rest of the silver parts came up as well as the front mudguard/fender then it would look fantastic. Overall so far the bomber is responding well to the elbow grease. Reminds me of Mr Miyagi in the Karate Kid "Wax On, Wax Off".
🤣😂🤣There is a lot of wax on, wax off going on. Thanks for watching.
I think I'd leave them like they are. I love patina
It fits the bike. Thanks for watching.
Please do a rustoration ! Looks great already!
I agree. It is responding to the elbow grease.
Use the old Mount, just change the lever?
1:25 looks broken where you attach / adjust the cable.
That’s right, it is broken.
leave it like they are!!
This guy is going to be ridden. So I think it’s better preserved than restored. Thanks for watching.
Have found that Baking Foil and Coca cola cleans Rust from Chrome Pretty well
just Scrunch up the Foil into Ball
I am gonna have to try this one day. Thanks for the tip.
You must leaf them as they are now because its prety nice now
It is looking really good.
1965 - the year of my birth. If I wanted to own a motorcycle the same age as me, then this would be it. what's the state of the paint on the tank? if you paint the fenders then the tank might look drab in comparison - get such good tips from you watching you do this 👍
The tank is good original paint. Here is the link to the video where I polished it back up.

If you slide the clutch lever mount on from the right side after removing the bars from the triple trees it should go on that is after removing the old one ... Should be easier than pulling the wires in and out of the bars ... Maybe ... Also I was amazed that the spokes were so nice . Did you do anything to them >>
I’ll give it a try. The spokes I just sprayed with the rust dissolver. I really like the stuff.
I always seem to need to beat on the old axles using PB Blaster and a lot of hammering! 😢
I was walloping this axle.
Love that rust resolver you’re using. Do you have to keep it off the paint?
I put it all over the front fender. I’ve found the only time it removes paint is when it gets the rust underneath it.
you know things are serious when you break out the foam brush.
I love a little foam brush action. Thanks for watching.
I would just leave them like they are
Paint or don’t. No real difference. However, you’ll need to protect the areas you treated for rust. Satin clear on the fenders and side covers. Whether you paint or not.
Agreed. Will be buffing and polishing then putting ceramic coating on them. Maybe I will do some clear first. That’s a good idea.
I’m curious Eric how do you reuse the Honda paper air filters? I’ve tried stripping the paper out and replacing with Honda air filter foam, but I’m not sure how much that affects the air flow to the carbs.
I normally replace them with foam.
Paint the fenders!
Thanks for watching.
Those dents came right out! Don’t paint the fenders, it’ll stand out too much 😊
The dents responded nicely to me beating in them. I agree about not painting the fenders. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.
My vote is yes paint them🙂
Thanks for watching.
if you can leave them unpainted do it. or if your like me once there painted then the rest looks like crap it becomes a total resto job. the problem is we love working on old bikes
That is what I’m trying to avoid. I think cleaning will be good enough. Thanks for watching.
Only original once, clean and leave as is.
That’s my preference as well. Thanks for watching.
Don't paint them fenders Boss
I agree. They came out really good.
If I were doing this for me I'd strip and repaint the fenders and covers back to original new condition. But that's just me being anal about it
I can appreciate it. It’s a slippery slope. Before long you’re in a full on nuts and bolt restoration.
@@motorcyclerewind The old saying go hard or go home!
I hate butchered old bikes.
I agree. They are only original once.
The first time I hit 100 mph was on one of those...
Wow!!! That had to be a wild ride. Thanks for watching.
Hi Clean up do not paint Cheers Glenn.
That’s what I’m thinking. Thanks for watching.
Keep the patina, use the rust remover, but don't paint
That’s the plan. We were able to polish the original paint tank in an earlier video.
no paint. keep the patina
That’s the way I am leaning also. Thanks for watching.
You need a face mask!💯 believe me please. I'm now suffering after not using them!
Thanks for the heads up. Any particular one you recommend.
Any better than non👍
Thumbs up not working
that's the man trying to keep us down!🤣
Nope clean it up and let it be ❤😊...
That seems to be the plan. Thanks for watching.
