    Great video. People have no idea how you can have $1,000 wrapped in oil and air filters, fluids, tires, tubes, battery, cables, plugs, brakes, blinker fluid and so on.

    Thank you Eric! This is worth more than a Dolla. Go buy your fav beverage on me.
    I am going Monday to look at a 81' Kawasaki KZ440 LTD A1. But I'm not getting the warm fuzzies from the picture I was sent.
    1. Tank is crap
    2. No rear shocks
    3. no exhaust
    4. Carbs are off and kept inside, but no cover on carb intake manifold
    5. No seat
    Also, its just not the style I am looking for. Had it been a B1 or C1 then Id be happier. (see, Iv been researching)
    😮 Carrie almost caught ya!! 🤣🤣 good one. I'm guilty too. 😳

    A guy was selling a basket case 1950's Victoria (German bike) on Facebook recently. It was missing lots of stuff but looked like an interesting project for not a ton of money. I did a little research and found out parts for that bike were not gonna be easy to find....and this thing was missing a lot. I decided it wouldn't be a good purchase for me.
    I'll stick to vintage Honda CB's and Triumph twins for now, cause that's what I know....and they tend to have good aftermarket and used parts, for a lot of years and models.

      Such a good decision. I just gave the little Benelli Panther back to the friend who gave it to me for the same reason. Just didn’t make sense to spend the time and money. Thanks for watching.

    I restored a Honda CB77 and am working on a Honda S90. Both were made in huge numbers and most parts are readily available. I'd love to restore an RD or RZ Yamaha but much rarer and parts are scarce and pricy.

    I would suggest never paying for a motorcycle that has been pulled apart and in boxes. I’m not saying don’t build something someone has started to renovate/restore, just don’t pay for it. Just ask me how I know, the money pit my resto bike has cost me is insane.

    • @motorcyclerewind
      @motorcyclerewind  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I feel your pain. I have put together several bin bikes. The most I have paid for one is $100 dollars. The guy wanted $800 for a disassembled CB350. I told him it got cheaper for every trip I had to make to the truck carrying boxes.🤣 As opposed to rolling a non runner into the truck. Thanks for watching.

    • @jimstartup2729
      @jimstartup2729 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Precisely why when I had to move house I built my bike back up again before moving. No way in hell I was going to let it become a parts bin. Most of the work is there and it can always be stripped down again... I. Fact a damn lot easier than the first strip down with rusted in bolts.

    The big question for me lately is do I really need it and honestly when will I get to it 😂. I ran into the parts problem with my 67 Kawasaki J1trl. I found out CMSNL and partzilla didn’t even have an option to look up J models Then I bought a parts manual but realized the numbers were old. I eventually found everything I needed, but took some digging.

      Honestly, I appreciate the hunt. But people who buy vintage for the first time aren’t willing to do it. So they end up with a parts bike in their garage. Thanks for watching.

  • @2wheelvintage361
    @2wheelvintage361 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    For 99% of the people out there I completely agree, but I've bought my fair share of junk bikes, some in boxes. My Yamaha XS1 took 3 years to get running. I had some parts that took 5 years to find, but it is my hobby. I'm working on a 66 Kawasaki W1 (I like yours by the way) that I knew would be hard to find parts for, and some parts, like fenders, will be from a W1S.
    I've been able to get about 50% of the parts from Japan, since there are many more parts available for the W1 over there. Yeah, It would be either cheaper or a wash in the long run to buy a running, riding bike and save my labor, but I probably would have torn it down anyway to inspect for wear. When this one is done I will know everything has been gone through and all issues resolved.
    It's what we do, right? 😁😁

    I learned that lesson a long time ago,gt750 Suzuki’s ,I know quite a bit ,1200 bandit,mk1 & 2,I have a good idea,end of last year I bought a very tidy Yamaha dt175,cleaned the carb,fitted another ignition switch because it worked backwards 😄,2 tyres & new chain,cleaned the tank out,fitted a new battery,turned the key & a few kicks later,it started,got it registered, took it on its maiden ride,& it went really really well,then came a really really annoying problem that when parked,it would leak fuel,after a few days ,it turned out that the carb body had a crack where the needle valve sits,here comes the pain in the ass part,it took a few weeks to track down another carb,so I got what looked like a good replacement,so I cleaned it to death,everything fitted apart from the idle screw,so punching in the part number revealed absolutely nothing,so I got into yambits,& found what I was looking for ,the difference was that the carb is from a B model as opposed to my A model,,it’s little things like that,it can be annoying,but luckily enough,I got there in the end,& that’s part of the fun,but that’s just my opinion,enjoying the channel keep up the good work 🤟

    I make a habit of always buying a parts bike when I get a rider. Yes, unobtanium parts are still unobtainable. But the vast majority of parts, along with the correct hardware, can be acquired this way. And I can sometimes make a little back by selling off those parts I'm not expecting to need.

    Unobtainable parts does become a problem for sure. It's very much like buying a Chinese motorcycle or scooter.. the parts are unobtainium.. so it's not worth it in the long run

    • @motorcyclerewind
      @motorcyclerewind  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I totally agree. Just need to make sure the unobtainable part is cosmetic and not vital to the motorcycle running. Example: the lower chain guard for my 305 Dream. Can’t find them but most people won’t know it’s not there.
