It’s clearly a remake it’s not a debate…it’s like how everyone kept calling Metroid Prime REMASTERED a remake….
Technically that was a remake and nintendo just doesn't know what remaster means
@@BillyBobJoe-ef7yz then what is a remaster then? Because he defined it really well in the video.
@@awesomeocelot7475 I think remaster means something like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.
It means porting an old game and adapting it to a different platform, improving things like visual aspect, performance and/or others.
@@RainLion10 and that what Metroid prime remastered is….again he explained it…
If it's running off of the original code (the game's original skeleton) it's a remaster. A remake would be a ground up rebuild, reguardless of if it looks similar or not.
Port: an existing game put on another console.
Remaster: an enhanced version of an existing game, building upon the game with better textures and graphics, with maybe some gameplay tweaks.
Remake: a game built from the ground up, based on an already existing game.
port dosent have to be slightly enhanced but it can be
@@Yoshizuyuneryeah i agree. lets say COD for the wii. its a port that has less quality and features than its original. ik there are multiple Call Of Duty’s for the wii so i just made it vague. 😅
Ports arent enchanced just accessible. Remasters can be enchanced version of existing game
@@alexanderrego1998 Fixed it 👍
@@YoshizuyunerI mean you are correct, but typically ports are usually never touched up graphically, but mostly have newly added features like MK8D or SM3DW as they just have new or changed features from it's original Wii U realease with no real graphical change as they are already in HD.
Clearly a remake
Clearly not
Bro this isn't even an argument just compare the two games 💀
Regardless of whether it’s a remake or remaster this is a day one purchase for me
Agreed 🎉
Agreed
Agreed too!
agre..SIKE! its a day 4 or 5 purchase for me. sorry.
Absolutely a day one purchase for me. I have never been more excited about a game being remade than this.
Remakes have most of the time been the price of a brand new AAA game so.
People NEED to understand the difference between a remake and a remaster.
How come, though? 🙁
Because people start getting into fights and debates like this@@ClaireSoelberg-op8id
@@ClaireSoelberg-op8idto avoid misinformation being widespread?? Idk why you're frowning over that
I AGREE @@innocentzbat
@innocentzbat
I apologize if I came off as angry. I was really just confused, as I thought the difference between a remake and remaster wasn’t important. I get it now.
0:20 SAME!! I love Super Paper Mario, but It's BEEN 20 FRICKIN YEARS since a proper Paper Mario RPG
If you account for inflation
original 2004 Version: $50
2024 value: $99.86
Remake: $60
I suppose if you take inflation into account. Games still being $60 is interesting.
Now let's let Colour Splash be next.
@@cooljrgaming9729yeah probably not, the reception for the game was terrible and the sales were even worse lol
Super Paper Mario? That's the 2007 Wii Paper Mario game.
@RenardioMFG Reception was bad because Paper Mario fans are odd. Sales were bad because the Wii U sold few units.
i just noticed the small details on the clouds in the intro are like the one from the orignal intro
6:06 they made sure to make the clouds have the same shape
It's pretty obvious that it's a remake, there is nothing remotely close that makes it feel like a remaster.
Nintendo fans need to define the meaning of "Remake" and "Remaster" Paper Mario The Thousand-year Door (2024) is clearly a "Remake" because Nintendo rebuild it from the ground up, like how they did Super Mario RPG "Remake"
That’s what I’ve defined as a Remake. Thats what I’ve always known it to be….
Yes! Thank you! Thats what I’ve always known remakes and remasters to be!
It’s *objectively* a remake.
No it's factually a remake
@@ChimaryyThat's the same thing.
Wait, Super Paper Mario is getting a remake? Let’s go! That game was the best.
Oh... Uh, just to be clear, no, SPM is not getting a remake.
Maybe in 2027… 😏
Jk
Is this a joke? I legit cannot tell
Oh whoops. My bad then.
@@kumaranrvn5716 it’s fine :) TTYD is getting the remake, not Super. Although that games does definitely deserve a remake too :D
I mean, it's notably cheaper than what the original's going for.
I never played so im gonna buy it but by the way Luigis Mansion 2 HD is 60€ in my country and thats just an remaster
Gosh, TTYD has been on my wish list to play for YEARS! As soon as this game releases, BOOM! $60, gone from my wallet and I am going to have some fun experiencing one of the best regarded Mario games of all time!
Do not be fooled This Is A Particular Remaster Not A Particular Remake
I'll put it like this, if the game from the ground up, and only thing that was added to the game was updated graphics, then it would no different than port. If the game has alot of new features(game mechanics, modes, QoL, and etc), game content( Additional storry, quest, andbosses) then it's consider a remake.
Bros just yappin at this point
One thing I don't like is that they went hard into the paper aesthetic, exaggerating on the concept. The original Thousand Year Door just had the aesthetic and played with it, but this 'resomething' makes everything look like cardboard rather than just a storybook aesthetic.
Also, Metroid Prime Remastered does look good but a lot was ruined in terms of visual effects. I'd mention them but no one ever reads or reacts to them.
At this point the terms are jumbled and no one knows what they mean. I was under the impression a “remake” was improving on the original game’s issues (bug fixes, graphical changes, design overhaul) WHILST adding new content, like Kirby Super Star Ultra. Apparently, that’s not what a remake is, and a remake is what I thought a remaster was, a graphics/style overhaul. So should “remake” be the new “remaster” term? We use HD Port for games that are just now HD, remake for style overhaul, like TTYD, and some new term for style overhaul and new content
Do not be Fooled This Is A Particular Remaster Not A Particular Remake
I'm not the only one who noticed the speech bubbles look like the ones from The Origami King, right?
those collectable stamps sprinkled through-out twilight princess HD,that took some effort
It’s worth pointing out that super Mario rpg made the jump to 3D, which would naturally entail that it is a remake
I mean in prime remastered there is a lot of new assets most enemies and bosses were remade.
I, CAN'T, WAIT
This video confirmed it for me, this is a remaster. (it’s just a face lift from what we’ve seen no serious gameplay differences)
PLEASE fix the backtracking issue!
Agree. I heard that this game backtracking is bad.
Not as bad as it's made out to be. But some streamlining would be welcome
@@songohan5866 It’s really not, if anything this is a 100% non issue that most people literally just complain about for no reason, because there’s actually a purpose for the backtracking being there.
@@Matt-eh2dylisten Vivian is best girl but chapter four backtracking is annoying. But the backtracking for general white is simply inexcusable. It’s padding.
This is technically a REMAKE.
From what we've seen this game has been re-built from scratch. It supports some modern rendering technologies that would be just a hassle to implement if it was just a remaster, its just better to build the game from the ground up. They have access to the original code of the game, So they can remake it faithfully but some elements may behave differently from the original gamecube version.
if it was a REMASTER. They would literally just take the original game's code and assets, just do enough modifications to it so it runs on the new console with no issues. Have its internal resolution upscale to HD, Just change textures here and there so it isn't that blurry.
Ofc this is a very blurry line. Metroid Prime is an Example of a Remaster that almost looks like a full blown remake
Amazing Video!
A remaster is essentially an HD reskin of the original
1:18 Wasn't the Cave of Ordeals in the original game too?
Yes it was, but they added a _second_ one if you used the Wolf Link amiibo.
(Though it has a different name, the type of challenge is the same.)
Also worth noting, the title doesn't have anything like HD or remastered added to it like Metroid Prime, Skyward Sword, or Luigi's Mansion 2. They did this with Mario vs DK and Mario RPG as well but I guess those were more obviously due to the system the originals were on.
Its definitely worth $60 if you wanted a copy of the game for the gamecube its gonna cost you more than that
NOW imagine if they did this to the first Paper Mario…woah, that would be amazing
hope it comes out in 60fps
4:36 they didn’t add a part to the back of his house, that’s what it looked like in Paper Mario 64
Btw many games are called remakes when they are NOT like pokemon BDSP where remasters only!
never played it. didnt want to buy it. now that i saw the comparison, im gonna buy it
Hope you love it. It's amazing, IMO
I think the confusion is just because the graphics are very similar. The art style and everything is the same in a way. Where as for instance the mario and luigi remakes for 3ds had a completely different art style that made it more obvious that it was a complete remake.
Imagine a company pouring their heart and soul into completely remaking a game… And then imagine the community that begged for it doesn’t want to pay $60 for it because "clearly" it’s a remaster? Sick.
Huh, i see, very interesting.
0:59 me again 😆
I think the debate lies less with what Paper Mario's Doing, and more to do with what we define as a "Remake" in the first place nowadays.
Pokemon Fans have considered and referrd to Heartgold and SoulSilver and Alpha Saphire/Omega Ruby as "Remakes" back when the terminology and application of the word "Remake" and "Remaster" were still new.
Then games like Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy VII Remake and the Resident Evil Remake games came along and changed everything by doing even more stuff.
So now there's a bit meta debate about what a "Remake" even is.
Does a game need to build it's levels from scratch- using only the original's storyline and themes as a template- in order to qualify as a Remake? (FFVII Remake, Persona 3 Reload, Resident Evil IV Remake)
Or does it just need a few additional features to be added, beyond just a graphical and soundtrack glow up? (HeartGold/SoulSilver, OoT/Majora's Mask 3D, Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe.)
Personally, It's a lot easier for me to categorize them by having a higher standard for what qualifies as a "Remake" so I prefer the first option- But then again, perhaps we could use a different term for those more ambitious remakes that litterally build and restructure everything to explore the story in a new way. Like a "Reboot" or "Re-imagining". Though at this point, It's a bit hard for me to feel like there's much of a difference between Remake and Remaster if we go that route. Being better than a Texture and Lighting upgrade doesn't feel like a low bar to cross. And being a Remaster is already doing minimal to differentiate itself from being a straight up Port of a game.
It's so OBVIOUS that this is a remake! I mean, just LOOK at the gameplay trailer from the September Direct and the original game!
To celebrate the game coming out in two months, I’m gonna draw the TTYD cast in party outfits like they’re at a movie premiere.
Yes i cried too
I still hope the game runs at 60fps like the original did. I’m scared it’s not going to because it doesn’t run at 60fps in any of the trailers so far.
Yes
Is a remake end of the question
I don’t know if I’d call it a remake just because they redesigned some background elements and enhanced the music. So far, the visual changes are the only new things we’ve seen
I would love if they would bring Super Paper Mario to switch too. I'm SUPER excited about TTYD though. I never got to play it because i never had a Gamecube. I have came so close to buying a copy from 90-140 dollars over the years to play on my Wii... but i just couldn't justify spending that much on one game. I love Paper Mario 64 though...i have heard the hype of TTYD for a decade...although I'm not sure anything will ever top Super Paper Mario for me.
Question for the comments. I’m tracking games I complete. I recently just completed original TTYD. Would I also include the remake as a different completion or just not at all since it’s kinda the same game?
It really depends on how Nintendo does it. If it's a faithful remake with nothing changed but visuals? You're probably good. But if they add new content, change core elements of the game, ect, then I'd say you should also complete the remake
it doesn't matter, just clarify that you beat the GameCube version and do the remake later (if you want)
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is another situation. Sure, the assets from the original are still in the game, but there's a drove of new assets added, such as the Magoland games and the epilogue content.
On top of all of this, the game in question is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door of all things. It's unbelievable to me how some people lack the ability to count their blessings with a comeback of THIS scope
$60??... I'd pay MORE for this if Nintendo asked!
Lets add another term to this, reimagining, ff7 remake/rebirth, while part one was called remake, is under that umbrella
i fell like it up to the people who played it to the people who its its a remake to them and to the people who thinks its a remaster and i hope everyone is ok and respect what people thinks 😊
But it's a remake and that's just a fact there's a definition for a remake and a definition for a remaster snd that is nowhere near a remaster
I would like to see a Paper Mario adaptation of Genshin Impact
I’m playing the original ttyd as I watch this
...was I the only one that thought that a remake and a remaster was the same thing
I think the problem is the game is a remake but not to the extent of the new Final Fantasy remakes. The new Final Fantasy remakes have so much new content they are honestly something above a remake but because they are called remakes it makes people look at legitimate remakes and believe that since they have less new stuff in them they must be a remaster. Since Final Fantasy remakes changed the story and the Paper Mario remakes don't they must be less than a remake making them a remaster so the argument goes.
Havent played any of the paper marios. Decided to get super mario rpg and ive been having a blast playing through that. And have just bought origami king for a great price and will be playing that after im done with mario rpg. Am definitely getting that upcoming paper mario.
Have both Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion Pre ordered! I do think Luigi is a bit over priced but I used the Nintendo vouchers to get that along with Princess Peach so I am not too bothered by it but Paper Mario was 100% a physical buy for me. That box are just looks beautiful.
There’s too many R words to describe a game
Remake,Remaster,Revised,Recolored,Recreated,Revitalized,Reevaluated,Revamped,Retexted,Recasted,Recoded,Recouraged,Ret*rd,Reloaded,Reimagined,Refurbished
(Yes I know I made a few ones up but still)
It really shouldn’t be a argument at this point
you forgot "Reloaded" & "Reimagined"
@@Doktario_Mystario MY GOD,
YOU’RE RUGHT!
Refurbished
there all just buzz words to avoid the dreaded "Rebooted" word that turns investors away. this is a Reimagining or Reset.
@@johnmarkson1998 reimagining implies that the intire story, battle mechanics and level design is different. And reset implies that they remade TTYD from memory (or go in a completely different direction with only the core gameplay elements reused)
It's not worth $60
It's actually worth $120
Clouds have no face 😢
I think it’s REMARKABLE.
I think what fans want to know is if there is any new content.
I thinking adding another optional character would be nice like the mouse goober would be great since 64 had 8 partners and TTYD had 7.
Also they should buff the mouse goober whom I forget the name of
i've seen speculate that there could be a new "Black Pit" and/or a Luigi side story (kinda like how Xenoblade on Switch has an extra "epilouge")
while it would be cool to see, i think the game is good enough as is
Metroid Prime Remastered got a bigger graphical update than Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Also new & improved control schemes.
4:20
So here's the real question then: Why re-buy the same game again if you already own it, completed it, and can easily go back to it (in other words, you've already done your time).
Might as well wait for an actual Paper Mario 3 (or make a fan version, where in this case, I already decided on the party cast, _and_ the new battle gimmick).
nintendo made it clear that ttyd on switch is the same as on the gamecube with new graphics, music, and animations. it's not a remake, they reused the old source code of the game.
imo calling something a port/remaster/remake doesn't matter to me because it doesn't change anything about the game itself
I always wanted to play the original but haven't yet. Apparently the game is pretty lengthy so of course it's worth the price for me
Honestly the discussion of remake/remaster is so dumb now. I understand how before in like early to mid 2010s it was confusing. But with games like FINAL FANTASY 7 REMAKE it should be clear💀
Wait- Didn't Metroid Prime Remaster USE new assets?
Nintendo Remasters are Named HD.
This game is a Remake
The only way to debate the "remaster vs remake" debate is to not play. People have their own way to think what each mean. If the new version changes something even small its a remake from what most people think. It doesn't need to be a full shift of gameplay story animation for some to consider it a remake instead. I mean mario rpg only adds the team special. Fixed the last area, fixed unit usability and adds post game bosses with world that's basically the same as og but that's a remake in their eyes.
I don't know. It's basically someone's own interpretation lile buzzwords at that point.
Eh not really. Lots of people have their own definitions, but the most common one is what switchstop said; If they took the original game and improved/added stuff to that, it's a remaster. If they remake the game from the ground up using the original game as a basis for what to do, it's a remake.
Friend, I have no sentimental attachments to this game and I can say that it’s 100% a remake!
The problem is we don't see much of change to see a remake to a remastered towards this game and who cares about the small details.
Japan is in a deep financial crisis as we speak.
The United States has been going through heavy inflation for the past 3+ years.
$60 is the new base price for video games and eventually im sure that price will rise even higher. The complaints of $60 video games are coming from people who dont understand that the world in general is becoming more expensive.
Remember when you could get a meal at Mc Donalds for $6? Those days are long gone, as are the days of low priced video games.
TLDR; Even if it was just a remaster OR hardcopy a re release, it would still be $60.
honestly, imo this game is a win for any paper mario fan, not really worth the cost though, but hey, i might give this game a look, but other than that, it's so viually amazing, there are a couple of things that stand out to me as a "wait what?" but like i said, it's amazing.
hi Nin10doland
Im telling you right now, anyone who thinks this game shouldnt be 60 dollars has not played this game. Nintendo claims tears of the kingdom was their first 70 dollar game, id claim ttyd was, they just priced it at 60, thats just how much value there is in the game. It is such a dense, well crafted, fun to play game and its like 30+ hours long on the first playthrough.
I have played the original game for GameCube and I still think it is a bit too much for the price of it alone.
Id agree with you on most part, but Metroid Prime Remqstered is literally a remake despited being called a remaster...It has slightly different physics, the engine is different too. In the original you have aether, in the remake you fall to your death. Collisons are different and the world geometry is completely remade. So if use the definition of a remaster as something that is slightly enhanced graphically but stays the exact way otherwise, then only Zelda Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD can be considered remasters.
This isn’t a debate you can have it’s a fact, if it is an enhanced version of a game it’s a remaster
If it’s recoded from the ground up as if it was a completely new game, it’s a remake
Remaster obviously cmon guys its obvious.
People are just being stupid like always
This does not make any sense?!
I died yesterday
I don't care if it's a Remaster or a Remake at the first place. TTYD got finally a remake is that really matters!.
The reason I think it is a debate is because there are players like me who want to know what is new into this game ? I mean honestly, I so do not want to know what is new at the last minute of all of this.
Nothing is actually new in this except the visuals. If nothing is actually new i would never consider it to be a remake IMO. Resident Evil 2/3/4 was an actual remake. This ia visual altered remaster at best.
@@Chief7285 “Nothing is actually new in this except the visuals.” Nah that’s just flat out false. There’s literally a new tattle check mechanic in the battles with enemies, as well as a completely new toad NPC design seen in the glitzville arena area that was nowhere to be seen in the original TTYD. Why lie?
Paper Mario games is games I don't play but when Derrick Bitnerd was at GameXplain he live-streamed the full games 'all of them' when he left GX to have his own YT channel Bitnerd Games he put his streamed playthrough playlists on it so I still watch his playlists of 64, TTYD, CS a few years ago Andre Segers of GameXplain streamed all of SS I watch his playlist of it because Derrick hated that game when/if Andre streams all of TTYD remake I'll stop watching Derricks Gamecube version playlist and start watching the GameXplain TTYD remake playlist.
