  • Hello and welcome to the Baha’i Blogcast with me your host, Rainn Wilson.
    In this series of podcasts I interview members of the Baha’i Faith and friends from all over the world about their hearts, and minds, and souls, their spiritual journeys, what they’re interested in, and what makes them tick.
    In this special episode, I speak with Dr. Nader Saiedi about the Declaration of the Bab, whose revitalizing message prepared the way for the coming of Baha’u’llah, the Founder of the Baha’i Faith.
    Dr. Saiedi is a Professor of Baha’i Studies in the department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, USA, and has focused much of his work on the Life and Works of the Bab. I hope you enjoy this special conversation about the Declaration of the Bab.

    Mr. Saiedi...I live in Iowa. I'm retired and 66 years old. I have been a Baha'i for 34 years. Two years ago I was travel teaching in the Western States on a motorcycle. In Central Washington State, in a very remote area, I met a woman about 35 at a small cafe. As we talked and I introduced the Faith she lit up. She had been a student of yours. So, we are teaching partners!

      In Islam , Muhammad (pbuh) does not return , it is Jesus (pbuh) that returns .
      Both are prophets and messengers of god . Muhammad is the last messenger .
      I’m a Muslim and although the Baha’i faith goes against many of the fundamental principles and teachings of Islam , I still respect there right to follow.
      Islam does not allow force conversion and religion is optional .

      Hi Juan! Thanks for the suggestion! We really appreciate it! Unfortunately, owing to a lack of human resources, we simply weren't able to create subtitles. Relying on the subtitles or captions that TH-cam could generate is really problematic, especially when it comes to Baha'i content and the titles the Bab and Baha'u'llah and other names of people and places. However, if you or someone you know is in a position to type up the subtitles for us, we'd really, really appreciate the help. Everything evolve because the reality of things in this world is reflection of emanation from the world of God. So does religion it’s dynamic and progressive. Not one people have been given the finality of religion. Reality of religion is beyond the limitations of names and ages because God is infinitive. So after Baha’i revelation- there would be many more revelations will come in the future. All belong to me as an individual is my own faith in God.

    48:00 So Mulla Husayn is not just a believer but a knower of God. I am convinced that it is no longer sufficient for us to just wish, hope, want, think or believe; but to know, even if only to know what we don't know - certain or not but assured and sure.

    How come the acceptance of the Báb's wife of His Station (which happend before the Declaration to Mulla Husayn) isn't the beginning of the Faith or at least more greatly promoted as being the first believer?

    • @BahaiBlog
      @BahaiBlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Kolya! That's a really great question! These are just a few of my personal thoughts. It is my understanding that many people recognized the Bab and Baha'u'llah prior to Their public declarations. In the first volume of The Revelation of Baha'u'llah, Adib Taherzadeh compares Baha'u'llah before He entered the Garden of Ridvan as a cloth covered lamp. Those who were spiritually attuned could see the light seeping through but once Baha'u'llah announced His Station, it was as if the cloth had been lifted. I am assuming it was a similar with the Bab and other Manifestations of God. This doesn't necessarily negate the recognition of followers of the Bab or Baha'u'llah who knew of Their Stations prior to Their declaration but it places a different type of role or distinction on what it meant to become a follower of the Bab and Baha'u'llah after They declared. If you'd like to read a little more, you might enjoy this article on Baha'i Blog called "The Other Witnesses: Hadijih Bagum and Maji Mubarak at the Declaration of the Bab" (www.bahaiblog.net/2018/05/witnesses-khadijih-bagum-haji-mubarak-declaration-bab/) and for more information about the special spiritual distinction held by Khadijih Bagum, I definitely recommend checking out the book Leaves of the Twin Divine Trees by Baharieh Ma'ani (amzn.to/2X9ERag). If I understood it properly, Bab revealed His station to His wife. It didn’t seem like she was necessarily searching. However, the scenario of Mullah Hussein , has the application of conscious search and the entering into an intellectual conversation where proof was presented. And all the other dimensions that Mr. Saidi explained here. This dispensation is a new chapter in humanity’s spiritual maturity and it “begins “ by human entering into a discourse with God and being treated as equal almost by the Manifestation, rather then the top down approach of the past, due to humanity’s immaturity. Again, that’s just my imperfect understanding.

      Hi Simin, I'm not a clock expert, but various types of clocks have been around for a very long time. According to Wikipedia, the pendulum clock for instance, was invented in 1656, and there were many other forms of clocks used in various parts of the world before and after that. This also included watches as well, and the first European watch maker for instance, arrived in Persia in the late 1500s. I hope this helps a little, and I'm sure you could also look into it a as well.

      We are reluctant to categorize divine and sacred figures, but symbolically in the Bab's Dispensation, the Bab is like the Sun, and Quddus is like the Moon. In Baha'u'llah's Dispensation, Baha'u'llah is like the Sun, and Abdu'l-Baha is like the Moon. All others are like satellites, essentially human. That is my personal take.

      It is interesting that you mentioned Mulla Hussein by being a Martyr symbolized the Nur which Emma Ali has referred to this as fifth stage of Truth.....
      Is it right to assume that Mulla Husain for being the First believer accomplished the station of “Nur”
      and became a light to shed light on truth of appearance of 12th Imam.?

      Go to this section of this talk th-cam.com/video/6jPN99xQLOs/w-d-xo.html
      It's the Revealed works of the Bab and Baha'u'llah and Their life that is the evidence for their claim. Baha'is don't accept Them simply because They claimed Messengerhood. It's the unhuman-ness (supernatural if you will) of the beauty and truth of the world transforming worldview that is revealed by these Figures. Not some physical miracle that They may have performed.

      Great question. I have been exploring this too. The people who recognize the Bab must have done so independently , one recognized his station without even meeting him, but through a dream. I would encourage reading the story including the early believers called “Letters of the Living”

    • @jccklh
      @jccklh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What is the proof of the Bab and Baha’u’llah’s claim to be a messenger of God? They are exactly the same proofs as Jesus or Muhammad’s claim. During the lifetime especially of Jesus 99.9% of people didn’t see any proof and they denied Him. For those whose hearts are open the proofs are clear as day. As with Muhammad, whose greatest proof is the Quran, the greatest proof of all Messengers is the revealed Word of God. As with Jesus there were many miracles of the Bab noted, including the miracle that occurred when the Bab gave His life like Jesus did, although miracles were were never emphasized as proof.

      "Revelation is from God" and "Revelation is man-made": both are beliefs. It is not a matter of science but of faith. Science only proves or disproves the material or physical phenomena, but God, the soul, faith, Revelation, etc. are metaphysical phenomena.
