  • Hello and welcome to the Baha’i Blogcast with me your host, Rainn Wilson.
    In this series of podcasts I interview members of the Baha’i Faith and friends from all over the world about their hearts, and minds, and souls, their spiritual journeys, what they’re interested in, and what makes them tick.
    As Baha'is and their friends around the world celebrate the 12-day Festival of Ridvan, I thought it would be nice to create a special video episode about Ridvan and its significance, so I got online with my friend, Tom Price, to have a chat about this special time for Baha'is. I hope you find this little conversation about Ridvan interesting and informative.

      "As regards various matters you raised in your letters, the reason we commemorate the 1st, 9th and 12th days of Ridvan as Holidays (Holy Days) is because one is the first day, one is the last day, and the third one is the ninth day, which of course is associated with the number 9. All 12 days could not be holidays, therefore these three were chosen." (Letter written on behalf of the Guardian, dated June 8, 1952, to an individual believer, in Lights of Guidance, p. 230)

    Is there any significance in the 100th anniversary of Ridvan? I know the UHJ was formed but there seemed to be a revolution in cultural attitudes that swept the 1960s off its feet and influenced us ever since. So many artists, musicians, designers, writers emerged with great works and significant ideas. Many people may have got a slightly wrong take on the times and drugs and sexual permissiveness but the impetus threw humanity into a new frenzy of creativity.

    • @melanieprice
      @melanieprice 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I've often thought that too. I listened to the song "The Age of Aquarius" then with this notion, And all the songs about world peace and unity that really became popular in the 60s onwards. We didn't really have popular peace songs prior to the 60s, except for perhaps gospel or hymns.

    Love Tom Price! And it wasn't mentioned, but it's hard to imagine a better composer of Bahá'í music (much of which I've performed in various groups), as well as his seemingly limitless knowledge of Bahá'í and other history. I didn't realize we were in the 9th Vahid of Bahá'u'lláh's dispensation. How cool is that? 🙏And btw, Tom didn't mention it, but Vahid, besides being 19 years, means *unity!* More perfection is hard to imagine.

    Very Interesting!
    And since we are talking about a jump- sharp take off- in knowledge after the revelation of Bab and Bahaullah, please consider this point also:
    "The soul that hath remained faithful to the Cause of God, and stood unwaveringly firm in His Path shall, after his ascension, be possessed of such power that all the worlds which the Almighty hath created can benefit through him. Such a soul provideth, at the bidding of the Ideal King and Divine Educator, the pure leaven that leaveneth the world of being, and furnisheth the power through which the arts and wonders of the world are made manifest. Consider how meal needeth leaven to be leavened with. Those souls that are the symbols of detachment are the leaven of the world. Meditate on this, and be of the thankful.
    (Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 160)
    There were more than 20,000 such " detached unwavering faithful" souls who gave their lives for the Faith in the first two years, than in any other religion in history! The prophecy concerning the Day of God in the Bible says that: knowledge shall cover the earth as the water cover the sea.

    • @davidumeda5516
      @davidumeda5516 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Argyle Street An important proof is the words of Baha’u’llah. A key Baha’i principle is that each person must independently come to their own conclusions about who Baha’u’llah is. The best way to do that is to read His writings for yourself.

    • @n.newport3578
      @n.newport3578 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello there! One of the principles of Baha’u’llah is the “Personal and independent investigation of truth” - I guess that means that you have the chance to investigate and see for yourself if He is who He is! :)

    • @argyle6674
      @argyle6674 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidumeda5516 Thank you for the response. However, the words are certainly not a proof. In a court of law, the words of the defendant need to be backed up by witnesses and evidence. I appreciate what you are saying. And there are many people throughout history that have spoken wise and beautiful words, but they never claimed to be a Messenger of God. I'm really looking for hard evidence and so far I have not heard that from Baha'i's. Again, thank you.

    • @amyroberts2741
      @amyroberts2741 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am fascinated with this question. Unfortunately I am not smart enough to know what constitutes "proof." If you would agree to explain what you see as a proof from another topic, I might be able to understand better. For instance (in all sincerity), could you explain the proof that the sun is what people say it is?

    • @jccklh
      @jccklh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have the proof if Baha’u’llah touches your heart, although if you are like me the mind is a gatekeeper and a claim such as being a Messenger go God also needs to pass logical tests. I think you have to look at the whole picture of the universe, God as Creator, and all the religions throughout history. If there is one God, why are there so many religions? Baha’u’llah says that all the religions are really one, so that answers that question, and I believe that is true. There is no other answer to the problems of the world today.

  • @NMRkid
    @NMRkid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why try so hard to put so many words in so many people's mouths just to make oneself believe their metaphysics is better than everybody else's? Whatever happened to the unity of religion? The thing is once you make a religion, you've automatically rejected all other ones and there goes the unity out the window.
