    If not cleaned reports Iv'e heard can be extreme bogging and loss of power. A lot can be said for women's stocking material, I have used that in past yrs on several engines. It acts as a pre filter of sorts, very breathable but stops bigger to medium particulants getting in. I used it on the outside of filters / boxes ect. . Great vid as usual Dino. Thanks.

    Thanks so much for the information a bout the small filter for the carburetor. I had cleaned mine quite often but didn’t no about the little retaining screen as someone had been there before me. So it was not were it should be but it was under the filter. So this time after removing the filter I found the outer retainer and put back on the outside now the filter will stay in place. Plus I cut out extra filter out of a old filter from a old dirt bike filter. So thanks so much for this information. I have been a Auto Tech for 50 years and new never stop learning.

    Good coverage of an often overlooked part of the bike. When i bought my DR, the previous owner gave me a box of parts and one part was the UNI secondary filter. Like you, he installed filter material in the original unit as he didn't like the effect of the UNI. I never tried the UNI as i have no issues with the way the bike works. I can only wonder if he may have over oiled the UNI and it caused him to have a funky working carb. Years ago, i replaced the filter in my Concours with a K&N and it wouldn't pull through the rev range. Come to find out, the filter was over oiled. Once i put the stock filter back in, problem solved. Just thought i'd pass that along. Cheers from NB!

    Nice one Dino, something that would get over looked i reckon. I fitted a uni air filter ( not like your one ) for awhile but I found it would get dirty around twice as often as the stock one ( enough to cause running issues ) and it actually ended up falling apart after a few washes. I cut it up and have stuffed it into the end of the stock one like what you have done. Been going well since then, have a k & n style in a box like yours just haven't had a need for it yet.

Have a query I’m hoping you can help with. With the bike on a stand and the bike in neutral, if I turn the back wheel in a forward direction there’s a knocking noise from the counter shaft/ front sprocket no knocking if I turn the wheel backward or if I put it in gear pull the clutch in and turn the wheel. Any ideas? Thanks in advance and thanks for the great videos. Harry

    Dino, that replacement filter you added (the green foam) seems to me like a lot more foam than stock, wouldn't it cause a reduction in air flow? I'm sure it would. But I'm thinking, considering the purpose of that airflow, it shouldn't matter?

    • @DinosTinkerShed
      @DinosTinkerShed  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the question, I suppose it could, again, I went another route and used the UNI filter. As a next mod for your bike, you could switch your regulator to a mosfet one. Trust me it's worth it.

    • @DinosTinkerShed
      @DinosTinkerShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will have to look into this. Is it more durable than the standard regulator? Or is the power cleaner? Not familiar with this mod. Thank you for sharing.
      Dino

    • @war_duck2061
      @war_duck2061 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DinosTinkerShed Yes, it is more durable and will boost your voltage. I run auxiliary led lights on my DR; with the stock regulator the battery voltage would drop to 12,3V with all the lights on. With this mod, it never goes below 13,2V and stabilizes around 14,7V with the lights off. And this voltage is available at idle speed. I bought a FZ8 regulator at a scrapyard on ebay, all in all, it cost me less than 60 €. The downside is you will need to relocate it as mosfet regulators are bigger.

    It is strange that my DR 650 RSE doesn't have this secondary air filter. Instead that hose from carburetor is connected to filter box, so it is using the main air filter. I am wondering if using standalone secondary filter would be beneficial.

    • @DinosTinkerShed
      @DinosTinkerShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1
