Yeah I also have to agree. You basically revived events on a 20 year old game and is pushing the limits on what the in-game scripting language can do. Scripts can be really powerful to modify an old game like that.

This is one of the most interesting videos I've ever seen, and I thought the previous one couldn't be topped!!! Every time there was a new caveat to this like the rock not being an NPC or the absolutely insane way Channel Jirachi is generated, I was on the edge of my seat. All of the ways you illustrated the technical side of things was super well done, too, it's rare to see a lot of these ASM concepts in action in a visual learner kind of way. Jirachi is one of my favorite Pokemon of all time, so thanks so much for making the wish of hunting it in the wild come true!! I plan on hunting the bonus disc Jirachi later this year and then this Jirachi because you can never have too many shiny Jirachi

I can’t wait to get an e-reader and try these someday. As for any other events you could do the shiny zigzagoon that was given away to help fix the berry glitch. I know some GameCube demo disc have the event so I could be fun to research and try to replicate it. It’s the last Gen 3 distribution I can think of that’s still semi accessible (if your willing to spend the money for it).

I've been thinking about doing a double cart swap exploit later to simulate an eReader to add some DLC (which exactly is a surprise) but for GBC. This is a really cool idea! The only extra further I think I can go with the E-Reader is looking at the communication routines to make it send to Mystery Gift in FRLG/E, but that's gonna be a bigger task. I wish you luck with the Camera idea!

I have three ideas for potential cards, 1: a card that would get you the other fossil you missed out on. 2 a card that would give you the other starters Pokemon you didn't pick. 3 a card that put the legendary beasts in in the game as roaming pokemon. (IDK if that would be feasible in such little code space.)

I might try to use this someday :) Second of all, at 27:29 you mention leaving some ideas for events down in the comments. This one is fairly low key, but I have always loved how Bagon could learn Hydro Pump in Gen 3 by egg move. My older brother used to breed boxes upon boxes of Hydro Pump Bagons just for fun. Maybe you could make a Hydro Pump/other egg moves Bagon event in Meteor Falls? Idk exactly what limits the e-reader events have, but I imagine there'd be a relatively large amount of storage room to make the event look cool since you don't have to replicate a super specific event Pokemon! Just a small, pretty inconsequential event that would be fun for people to run if they're wanting something different. Maybe it could even be available before you get surf xor waterfall so you can do a playthrough with a unique Pokemon! If not Hydro Pump, Wish Bagon is super duper hard to come by legally because it was only from that one event in Generation 3. Maybe Wish Bagon in meteor falls could be neat? Or both moves even! But Wish I imagine is a much more involved process, depends on what you were looking to do. Thanks again for a great video :)
I think it would be really cool if the Colosseum crown beasts could get events. Especially if you're able to write ribbons to these Pokemon since they'd have to have the national ribbon to be legal.
Blisy this was fantastic to watch! Ooh I have a suggestion lol. I remember this rumor when I was a youngin. Basically if you caught Mewtwo & defeated the Elite Four 12 times in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen Mew would appear at the end of Cerulean Cave. I remember the struggle of beating them over & over, my disappointment was immeasurable when I went to Cerulean Cave & nothing was there lol.😅

You're ruining the ingame rewards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In LG/FR there's a way to obtain one of the Johto starters, as well as in Ruby Sapphire you can trade with Colosseum. It's wrong to want to cheat these things when Gamefreak already made a way of obtaining them. (They're meant to be difficult to obtain)

God I wish I knew assembly. I should have kept up on it out of school, but I got a dev job immediately out of college and had to learn C++ fast. By the time I felt solid, I couldn't even entertain the notion of jumping back into assembly. Maybe one of these days. Anyway, this is super freakin cool, thanks for breaking down everything you did. I do remember this video many years ago about being able to catch jirachi here depending on how much you talk to the person next to the rock and the scientist who talks about the rocket launch. Friends showed me it and tragically I was a bit too gullible. Fun times!

This is incredible to see all the work behind it as well as the results! Love to see the playground rumors become true in an almost Ocarina of Time TAS-like way. Definitely looking forward to the e-Reader save injection; it'd definitely be one of the more convenient ways to just put Eon Ticket and other events in several games if it were turned into a saveable application for the e-Reader's memory, though I'm sure that's plenty of work in and of itself.
First of all i want to thank you for your hard work and amazing content. If you still want to make some dlc content you might do a event for the berry fix Zigzagoon, and if it is possible, you could ad a trainer battle against Gold in the house of Steven, and after you beat him you could get a gen 2 Starter at the table where normaly Beldum is.

The fact that neither TH-cam nor coding are full-time jobs for you, yet you spend the time and effort doing something this unique and incredible is genuinely mind-blowing to me. It really shows how a genuine care and love for a community, and bettering that community is more powerful than just economic growth. People just do things because it makes them happy and they'll know it makes other people happy and honestly I think that's really beautiful. I know that's kind of overly deep for a video about pokémon DLC, but selfless fun acts like this just make me really happy. Thank you for doing this not once but twice now, as a shiny hunter who has all the necessary gear but not the $300 to spend to shiny Hunt jirachi. This is definitely the route I will be going down
Blisy your content is amazing! One thing is that the menu clicks as you’re running through the code at around the 10 minute mark (and throughout) is super loud. Like it’s way louder than you are, and it’s hard to listen to you run through that technical code when getting assaulted by those sounds.
Wow! I was literally just trying to look up this rumor about the white rock a few weeks ago and couldn't really find anything about it. I knew it wasn't just me that heard this rumor growing up. So thankful to have found this video on it to know I'm not alone. The iteration of the rumor I heard was that if you pressed "A" at the rock over 1,000 times or something like that it would launch a rocket to space and then it would return with a Deoxys you had to battle. 😂
I got an Idea, fix the abandoned Altering Cave Event by Making Altering Event E-Reader tickets that change the table of Altering Cave, as all the data for the cave is there it was just never used. This would be for Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen only though as for some reason it's not in Ruby and Sapphire.
The Gen 3 games will always have a place in my heart right next to Gen 4. As much as I believe other people share my same love, nothing has been nearly as tangible as your dedication and hard work on these projects. Thanks for being you dude, hope you stay well and have a great rest of your day

somewhat relevant question, but is ho-oh/lugia from a non-english, non-japanese fr/lg/emerald game legal? Apparently the mystic ticket was never distributed in europe, but it was distributed in mexico (but in english apparently). Were spanish language cartridges able to receive english language mystery gifts? If so, then by extension all european language versions would also be able to.

Hello! Amazing video this is awesome, I have a question. I've been using Channel method on RNG reporter to shiny hunt this Jirachi on Emerald. I'm assuming the initial PRNG is 0, but I haven't been able to get at least one predicted Jirachi, am I doing something wrong? I'm on mGBA btw

It's just crossed my mind, so I'm sure it's crossed yours already, but I'm wondering if e-reader cards could be made for colosseum similar to the 3 Japan exclusive shadow pokemon? I guess they might need to be Japanese only, and maybe the pokemon wouldn't be legal (?), but the idea of potentially putting more shadow pokemon into the game feels very interesting!
This is super cool, can't wait to hunt Jirachi using this! Also (this is more of a question than a suggestion) do you think it'd be possible doing something similar in Gen 4 for, like, Manaphy? Truly a shame my cartridges got lost a whole decade ago. If only my parents weren't so strict with gametime when I was a teenager and didn't hide the games until eventually they also forgot what they did with them (probably throwing them to the thrash) you bet I would have used your event Pokémons in competitive (all tho the last big W I got in competitive was topping 5 in gen 7 on the 13th season I think it was? (When all legendaries were usable) So since I wasn't able to get a swich until not long ago I'm slowly crawling my way back into the competitive scene. Sorry for the long comment, in a nutshell, your work is remarkable and if I had been able to play them, I would use your Pokémon no doubt. (Gen 7 jirachi Iron head scarf flinching for the win?)

Since you can interact and catch Jirachi and the other mythicals in any Pokeball theoretically, won't that break legality by PKHex at least? Or does the Pokeball also change after catching it? I wonder if the text is compressible. This could be done rather efficiently with a huffman table, or a decompression algorithm that uses 6 bits per character instead. It’s possible the overhead would be too high, though.
Would it be possible to “patch” Pokémon Emerald permanently and repair the RNG seed issue so it functions as intended? On a physical cartridge I mean. Can you patch the physical cart permanently?

7:00 Not that this is important, but that's a 1019 block memory card with I believe about 64MB capacity. If GC blocks were that big Colosseum's save file would be around 3GB lol (even though it felt like it at the time, still egregiously huge for no reason).
Since you know there can be optimizations made for the Celebi event, will you be implementing those to make them a bit more concise and (potentially) slightly more complex - even though that would cause a bit of disparity between the physical cards and the online-accessible source code - or will you be keeping it untouched, allowing the cards and source code to yield the same (albeit unoptimal) result no matter which is chosen?
@@imablisy I'm no expert when it comes to gen 3 scripting - or heck, coding in general - but if you're wanting a suggestion as to how you can do that, I'll put it below and separate it from this with, like, a bazillion empty lines. This way I can give my suggestion without it being forced upon you. if ur not blisy u haf 2 sub 2 blisy kbye Rather than copy over ALL of the Celebi's data, you can just copy over the PID, TID and SID for the corresponding Celebi. If the Pokémon was given no nickname, then overwrite the default English name with the Japanese one - that way if the player wants their Celebi to be named Celebi in English and don't care about legality, they just write down CELEBI. If they want it perfectly legal, just don't put anything.
I don't know if this is possible, but the E-Reader can scan multiple cards, meaning you can (potentially) shotgun a lot of code into the game. Some TCG cards have mini game E-Reader dot codes on them that ask for more cards. If you can reverse engineer that, there's maybe a possibility to add new items, maps, etc., although it'd require a lot of "cards".
I've been watching your videos now for a while and I'm about ready to try to get a complete pokedex in emerald. Do you think this is possible with only emerald and xd gale of darkness if I utilize rng manipulations and glitzer popping? I'm new to this so if I missed something please let me know

I did want to do the Colo beasts originally, but I pretty much stopped because I wanted to get them in as Roamers, which I couldn't make work.

i was thinking about this earlier today, and i wonder if maybe the johto starters could be an idea? i can't think of many other pokemon that are a bigger pain in the butt to get all of in gen 3 than them, so having a card event could be fun!! (i think you also mentioned entei/raikou/suicune before?)

In LG/FR there's a way to obtain one of the Johto starters, as well as in Ruby Sapphire you can trade with Colosseum. It's wrong to want to cheat these things when Gamefreak already made a way of obtaining them. (They're meant to be difficult to obtain)

God I wish I knew assembly. I should have kept up on it out of school, but I got a dev job immediately out of college and had to learn C++ fast. By the time I felt solid, I couldn't even entertain the notion of jumping back into assembly. Maybe one of these days. Anyway, this is super freakin cool, thanks for breaking down everything you did. I do remember this video many years ago about being able to catch jirachi here depending on how much you talk to the person next to the rock and the scientist who talks about the rocket launch. Friends showed me it and tragically I was a bit too gullible. Fun times!

If you still want to make some dlc content you might do a event for the berry fix Zigzagoon, and if it is possible, you could ad a trainer battle against Gold in the house of Steven, and after you beat him you could get a gen 2 Starter at the table where normaly Beldum is.

The fact that neither TH-cam nor coding are full-time jobs for you, yet you spend the time and effort doing something this unique and incredible is genuinely mind-blowing to me. It really shows how a genuine care and love for a community, and bettering that community is more powerful than just economic growth. Blisy your content is amazing! One thing is that the menu clicks as you’re running through the code at around the 10 minute mark (and throughout) is super loud. Like it’s way louder than you are, and it’s hard to listen to you run through that technical code when getting assaulted by those sounds.

Wow! I was literally just trying to look up this rumor about the white rock a few weeks ago and couldn't really find anything about it. I knew it wasn't just me that heard this rumor growing up. So thankful to have found this video on it to know I'm not alone.
The iteration of the rumor I heard was that if you pressed "A" at the rock over 1,000 times or something like that it would launch a rocket to space and then it would return with a Deoxys you had to battle. 😂
I got an Idea, fix the abandoned Altering Cave Event by Making Altering Event E-Reader tickets that change the table of Altering Cave, as all the data for the cave is there it was just never used. This would be for Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen only though as for some reason it's not in Ruby and Sapphire.
Yes, it would make way easier to shiny hunt or rng manip them in this cave instead of safari zone
I think there's already a custom Mystery Gift that does this, no need to tap Japan's exclusive Mystery Event feature in those games.

somewhat relevant question, but is ho-oh/lugia from a non-english, non-japanese fr/lg/emerald game legal? Apparently the mystic ticket was never distributed in europe, but it was distributed in mexico (but in english apparently). Were spanish language cartridges able to receive english language mystery gifts? If so, then by extension all european language versions would also be able to.

Hello! Amazing video this is awesome, I have a question. I've been using Channel method on RNG reporter to shiny hunt this Jirachi on Emerald. I'm assuming the initial PRNG is 0, but I haven't been able to get at least one predicted Jirachi, am I doing something wrong? I'm on mGBA btw

I guess they might need to be Japanese only, and maybe the pokemon wouldn't be legal (?), but the idea of potentially putting more shadow pokemon into the game feels very interesting!

Truly a shame my cartridges got lost a whole decade ago. If only my parents weren't so strict with gametime when I was a teenager and didn't hide the games until eventually they also forgot what they did with them (probably throwing them to the thrash) you bet I would have used your event Pokémons in competitive (all tho the last big W I got in competitive was topping 5 in gen 7 on the 13th season I think it was? (When all legendaries were usable) So since I wasn't able to get a swich until not long ago I'm slowly crawling my way back into the competitive scene. Sorry for the long comment, in a nutshell, your work is remarkable and if I had been able to play them, I would use your Pokémon no doubt. (Gen 7 jirachi Iron head scarf flinching for the win?)
Hey Blisy, I had a question regarding these e-reader events and legality. Since you can interact and catch Jirachi and the other mythicals in any Pokeball theoretically, won't that break legality by PKHex at least? Or does the Pokeball also change after catching it?

I wonder if the text is compressible. This could be done rather efficiently with a huffman table, or a decompression algorithm that uses 6 bits per character instead. It’s possible the overhead would be too high, though.
we talked about this, I think it's too high to be worth it. Shortening the dialogue wasn't really bad for english tbh.

7:00 Not that this is important, but that's a 1019 block memory card with I believe about 64MB capacity. If GC blocks were that big Colosseum's save file would be around 3GB lol (even though it felt like it at the time, still egregiously huge for no reason).

Since you know there can be optimizations made for the Celebi event, will you be implementing those to make them a bit more concise and (potentially) slightly more complex - even though that would cause a bit of disparity between the physical cards and the online-accessible source code - or will you be keeping it untouched, allowing the cards and source code to yield the same (albeit unoptimal) result no matter which is chosen?
if I change celebi it'll probably be to fix the nickname bug.

Rather than copy over ALL of the Celebi's data, you can just copy over the PID, TID and SID for the corresponding Celebi. If the Pokémon was given no nickname, then overwrite the default English name with the Japanese one - that way if the player wants their Celebi to be named Celebi in English and don't care about legality, they just write down CELEBI. If they want it perfectly legal, just don't put anything.

I don't know if this is possible, but the E-Reader can scan multiple cards, meaning you can (potentially) shotgun a lot of code into the game. Some TCG cards have mini game E-Reader dot codes on them that ask for more cards. If you can reverse engineer that, there's maybe a possibility to add new items, maps, etc., although it'd require a lot of "cards".
