Sorry bro, I have to disagree.... this isn't an underrated song. This song is either your a true Metallica fan, or NOT! One of the best guitar instrumentals ever written!
chrisjl84 it is underrated ahaha. I find unless ur a musician or a full on Metallica fan. Not many people know this song or don’t appreciate it as much
The idea of underrated is in fact the idea it’s not recognized by casual fans but then again that would apply to Orion as well and I truly appreciate good bass. Instrumentals are inherently underrated.
Thank you friends, it happened a few years ago but seems like yesterday. Mitch was a Metallica maniac, a great drummer and a close friend. We had a practice room set up next door to my old work which we jammed these songs at ridiculous volumes everyday. Everything about this song reminds me of him and the good times we shared, my thoughts are always with Mitch and his loved ones. Thank you
I lost my best friend 12 years ago and he was a Metallica fan as well, this song and Fade to Black always reminds me of him, keep it up, you have a great talent.
6:13 that's when you become a true Metallica fan. When you hear this for the first time. Most likely the best riff Metallica has ever written. I love the harmonies and the way they blend. METALLICA \m/
I have no problem admitting that I have been brought to tears before a few times in the past, one of the most melodic and just moving songs they have ever written , I'd actually say this is not only just a song but more so a true genuine composition by pure musical genuis
First off, great cover ! I've really enjoyed listening to the intricate harmonies without the backing track. Excellent work. This song has always intrigued me because it seems like several songs rolled into one ( I know it was an amalgamation of pieces that Cliff Burton was writing before his death) . The different parts seem to have such distinct and separate emotional values. Then it occured to me. I think Metallica may have written and arranged this song to be a musical representation of the 5 stages of grief. 0:00 Denial 0:58 Anger 2:26 Negotiation 4:23 Depression 6:13 Acceptance 7:25 Then it goes in to the verse and outro. Just a thought.
I'm currently going through tough times. Every time I'm in a depressed mood, I've been coming back to this cover and this song helps me get through the 5 stages of grief. Thanks for making this!
When you know something deserves that something be said, but you almost don't know WHAT to say. Like now. While watching this, I thought about the time you spent working on it, your friend present in your thoughts, in your purpose, the emotions. I feel like I (us,we) have touched your pain somehow. I mourn with you. At the same time, I my jaw hits the floor again and again as behold the finest rendering I have yet seen, of a timeless and beautiful metal classic. Thank you, sir.
Ooooohhhh man, it's sooooooo fucking awesome.....!!!! The whole song, how you played it... It made me almost to cry at 5:46, and it made at 6:15 when the logo appeared... You play it with respect and ...you feel what Metallica is. :D Thank you.
I remember buying this album and hearing this song the first time in 1989. At that point, I'd been a fan of Cliff's (and Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Testiment, Suicidal Tendencies, Prong, and so many other metal bands from that era) a few years, having just turned 15 at the time (48 now). Still to this day, metal is and always will be my favorite form of music, and influence my own playing heavily (but that's beside the point). Metal isn't just a music, it's a lifestyle, a state of consciousness, and the air that I breathe. This song has always been one of the my favorite Metallica songs. As much as I'm a fan of most of their library, particularly the first 5 albums, To Live Is To Die always kinda hit me close to home --and nowadays, we're seeing in mass, the costs of lies --so once again, this track takes on hardcore meaning. Hope this comment (5 years afterward) finds you alive and well in this ...whatever it's become. :)
I never record my guitar clean and change it later, I record it the way it sounds. To play a song for youtube with several settings in one take can be frustrating. Computer engineered tones are great but I still love the real thing. The mark V nails this tone live, but recording with a mic in the house with other people is a bit much. My wife would have the shits pretty fast
This is such a beautiful song, hence it being my all time favourite. 1. To live is to die (BEAUTIFUL MASTER PIECE) 2.ride the lighting (INTRO AND SOLO are spot on) 3.creeping death (thrash angry goodness) 4. Frayed ends of sanity (heavy riffs oh yhh, the solo is quite good as well) 5.fade to black (the solos just carry it, the rest is meh, unless it be higher) 6. The god that failed (heavy as fuck and love it, and im a sucker for the solo)
Your only a true Metallica fan if you understand the meaning of this song, this is Metallica’s way of releasing the pain they felt when cliff passed. I’m so sorry for your loss dude, it means a lot to go out of your way to show you're a real Metallica fan by showing your emotion through this song. This song cannot be any better... R.I.P cliff
this is by far the best cover i've seen of this song, i really enjoyed watching it, it is so fucking amazing it just blew my mind completly.. great job
absolutely fantastic cover, one of the best metallica songs and surely the most emotional one. I always get goosebumps when i hear it, and the raw sound of the guitar makes it even better.
Anthony, thank you for this emotional and sensitive cover. You bring you soul to this song, it feels very natural. It's difficuilt to lose friends, but keep doing that you do. Great work!
I have never seen this much emotion and skill at the same time in a cover video. Perfect playing and perfect little touches at the right moments. Thank you very much sir, this is a very special work. Really sorry for your friend also, may God rest his soul.
Dude, thank you, you were the one who introduced me to this song years ago when you posted this video , I still hadn't listened to this album. It's a really good cover man, sincerely a fantastic job!
Just wanted to say thanks for putting this up. This is my go-to song for mourning and I've now played off many friends and relatives with you. Mitch was lucky to have jammed with you, I hope I'm doing him justice with my playing as well
Such a great video on so many levels. Really amazing in every way, very true to original and very authentically and tastefully done, and recorded perfectly. Such a great tribute and memorial, so well done.
Sorry for your loss... I recently lost my father and this song is always in my head since that day... I am a drum player myself and I was looking for drumless track to cover the song. Thanks for your great work. I totally felt the pain of the loss in your playing.
Beautiful cover lambchopper. Great job just as usual. Reallu sorry for your loss I know how it feels to lose someone special in your life. Hope you'll feel bettet
this song is beautiful. just simply beautiful, it’s my favorite not only metallica song, but my favorite song ever. thank you for doing this and i’m truly sorry to hear about to hear about your friend. my garage band just lost our bassist to a fatal car accident so i understand what it’s like
This is easily one of Metallica’s most underrated songs.
Sorry bro, I have to disagree.... this isn't an underrated song. This song is either your a true Metallica fan, or NOT! One of the best guitar instrumentals ever written!
Underrated. Tf you mean
chrisjl84 it is underrated ahaha. I find unless ur a musician or a full on Metallica fan. Not many people know this song or don’t appreciate it as much
this is not underrated by any standards, this instrumental and orion are praised the most by fans.
I miss him already lol
Sorry for your loss man. Close friends are not easy to come by. May he rest in peace! \m/
I lost my best friend 12 years ago and he was a Metallica fan as well, this song and Fade to Black always reminds me of him, keep it up, you have a great talent.
I'm sorry mate, I think there's a lot of us who grieve this way, appreciated
LambChopper678 thank you very much. Yes, we all have our ways to grieve, mine's is also through music, without it, I'd be lost.
6:13 that's when you become a true Metallica fan. When you hear this for the first time. Most likely the best riff Metallica has ever written. I love the harmonies and the way they blend. METALLICA \m/
Dan 2c plus the brutality after that emotional solo, is perfect
I cant tell some better metallica riff, coz it so many of them.
I still get goosebumps when I play this song, and i've played it ALOT
Amen brother! This riff will never die.
Agree.

4:51 my favorite part of the whole song! It's beautiful
Agreed
07:25 When a man lies...
MrFenixo the goosebumps, oh man!

+Comandante Snorky these are the pale deaths
That men miscall their lives.
Gorthaldir all this i can not bear to witness any longer
This song more so than Orion reminds me of my dad. Sorry for your lose dude. Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home

That 5 stages of grief hit me hard.
Stuck on 4!
I'm currently going through tough times. Every time I'm in a depressed mood, I've been coming back to this cover and this song helps me get through the 5 stages of grief.

1:02 One of the main benefits as a guitarist, you can flip off everyone and they won't even notice. Joking aside awesome cover :D
I can't hear the bass... Oh wait, I remember...

Bruh
This is a guitar cover, not a guitar and bass cover.
@@DankoHidalgo you definitely did not get it.

Totally kicked ass bro, super impressed with how well you captured the essence of the original! Your friend will be watching proudly.
He's kinda... Dead.
I meant watching from heaven...

Yes, @5:45 - @6:15 that's the part I almost cry.. well, I kinda did and I'm not ashamed... the harmony is so epic!
Loved the Wish You Were Here shirt.
This is the best cover I have seen on TH-cam ever I think.
me too
+Jay Bo On You got that right. that was amazing
What I'm saying..
God I wish there was drums
It's incredible how you can pass all the emotion that this music has in one 'simple' cover. I admire you so much for this.
Sorry for your loss.

@Oğul Avcı Thanks mate, it's a Japanese Jackson Dominion pro model.
DOPENESS!!!
The last track written by Cliff Burton
DAMN... Now you gotta dive into "Dyer's Eve"
I'll sing James' part:
"Dear mother, dear father... What is this Hell you have put me through"
You had me at windmill.
inveigle ha thanks mate, I think they're the greatest rock move, though air walks are pretty awesome lol.
7:19 easily the best part of the song to me, that harmony is something else
me too man
You're an amazing guitarist, I always love watching your videos, man. You actually inspire me to be better at guitar myself.
Well thanks very much man, I appreciate that. We all feed off each other
LambChopper678 No problem. also, your tone is killer!
It was really nice to hear those chords ring out clean, crisp and loud after the second solo.6:13
The 'Windmill' strumming in top RH Corner from 4:22 just made my day.
Great Cover - as always.
@Amadej Raner I have a Mark V with a 2c+ setting which nails the tone but for this recording I used Bias. There's more details at the top
+LambChopper678 This is the best cover of this song I have ever seen. Amazing playing, amazing tone. Great job!

Sounds awesome Metallica the greatest band in the World
Mike Goodlock favts bro

Can't see why anyone would dislike this ?? ❤️🙏❤️
I was travelling on a road to Copenhagen, in 1991, and spontaneously cried on the coach.
I found out later - that was the road Cliff Burton died on.
Incredible!!
I always get a notification about your videos while I'm in class and I always get anxious to see them!!
Amazing job!

I love how on some of the riffs you made it sound choppy without it sounding bad
Oh my god!! What an amazing job you did here, absolutely spot on, and it sounded awesome!
