Thanks! One nice thing to know is that English Ivy helps filter airborne toxins. So, to get a bit better sleep, place this evergreen vine in your bedroom. Apparently Ivy can reduce the airborne mold in a room in just hours.
“They make good travel companions” 😂 love it. I’ve never considered bringing plants on a road trip, but I’d like it better than many alternative companions 😁
Ivy is by far my favourite plant. There are so so many different types to chose from and they are all very beautiful. That "California" one looks amazing with these wide star-shaped leaves but I doubt I'll ever come across it in a store here in Europe. I agree, they are very sensitive to over-watering, which can be a bit tricky especially when autumn comes around and they suddenly need a lot less water than during the warmer months. Unfortunately they are also prone to spider mites when the humidity gets too low. I spray them with water during the dry periods and if they still get mites, I wash them off under the shower and spray the leaves with soft soap dissolved in water. It's worked pretty well so far. Btw the ivy plants with variegated leaves need more light than the green ones. The brighter the leaves, the more light they need.
Just bought my first ivy. I truly love it. Your video really helped me to understand this plant and hopefully I'm gonna have a ivy covered kitchen in like 5 years 😄
I just recovered a 2$ neglected, thirsty ivy... so far, so good, but I need to learn more! Thanks!

I have not purchased an ivy plant in years. My results have been the same every time... spider mites. I stopped buying them for now. You are doing a great job by your Ivy. Highly impressed. Thanks for sharing.
@Tiffany Moore I’ve had them for almost a year. They def like a lot of light. I put two cuttings about 6/7 inches long inside of a Patron bottle and filled it with water to the rim and there’s a ton of new growth!
I was hoping you’d mention crispy leaves. I got one of these at my local nursery, I have been doing everything as indicated, medium indirect light, moist soil, (I have it in a terracotta pot but I do have overwatering tendencies although I’m getting better) I don’t let it dry out completely and I keep a close eye on it using my moisture meter, but some leaves just look…crispy. I don’t know how to describe it. They’re not wilting, they’re not brown, just crispy and some even bumpy. Is this normal? Mine looks just like yours, all green no variegation, but the nursery had it labeled as “hedera helix ivy”. I’d like know if the crispiness is something I’m doing

So, i bought English Ivy, Virginia creeper and Boston Ivy, here in Buffalo, NY.,. Zone 6. I want it outside for a chain link fence privacy in the city. Thank you so much for this video! I've just been gifted some California and Glacier ivy. I've only ever had succulents, pothos, and cacti so I was stressing
The video popped up when I was searching for ways to kill off invasive English Ivy in my backyard. Just watched a video where the most suggested thing to get rid of tons of ivy is glyphosate that would need to be sprayed continuously for months to kill apparently, potentially giving me cancer. It's odd how I am trying to kill that stuff off and in other parts of the country these are treasured houseplants :)
Thank you so much! I have an ivy that i home depot did so so dirty and i love her and want her to live on and i think i might be able to accomplish that now!
I have two ivy plants. Had them about a year now. They have probably doubled in size if not more . My only issue is that it's more length than fullness like yours. I was wondering if you'd be able to propagate and make the plant thicker. Also finding spots for it to live is hard so I've been using a grow light .
Yeah it is interesting that this varies between ivies. Pruning can help, I think it responded well to the light it received. I think the grow light should help. Thank you for watching. 💚
My English ivy doesn't grow for me. I'm in Fl so we have tinted windows. I'm thinking the bathroom would help it to grow. Ease any suggestions. Thank you
Im so sad. I got mine as a gift and she was doing well but some leaves are crispy dry and she just look so little and shrinking into herself. My room is so small I don’t really have more space for her and I really want her in my room. Right now she’s right by the windows. I’ll try move something’s around and see if I can put her away from the window. I’m gonna take her out of the nursery pot i got her in. What type of soil should I get? I ready that I should put pebbles and put them at the bottom of the pot and put the Ivy on top. Would you suggest that? I kinda wanna keep her forever because she was such a special gift. Thank you.
Hi there, thanks for watching. I suggest a pot with a sufficient drainage hole. Ivy are not too particular on types of soil; an all purpose potting soil will work just fine. pebbles are not necessary. It's wonderful to hold on to gifted plants, we want to do everything to keep them alive and healthy, right? 💚🤗
You’re the best!! I’ve watched so many videos on English ivy care and have never related more to someone!! Also- I’m terrible at repotting plants. I never know when the right time is or the right size pot. I’d love for you to make a video on that 😫🙏💋
Hi Caitlin! Thank you for watching, I am so glad to hear this was helpful and relatable! 💚 Sure! I will be happy to make a video on that soon! thanks for suggesting that.
My ivy has lost all the leaves due to them becoming crispy and dead. I removed them, and I have healthy looking naked stems. Is this plant hopeless now?
One suggestion: put a time stamp on key things you are going to say. You have a positive vibe but some people (like me) are pretty impatient and just want to get straight to the point.
Hi, thanks for watching. I am not sure if you noticed, but at the beginning of this video I had the time stamp listed, but thanks for the suggestion, I can also add the stamps to the description section. 💚
My English ivy has spent more time looking unhappy than happy 😭 right now it’s looking really bad… we’ll see if I can rehab it. Your video makes me want to buy another and try again if this one dies
There are plants whose roots can live in water: the pothos, spathiphyllum, philodendrons. I would imagine such is possible with the ivy. You may have to change it more frequently. When I propagated my ivy in water I nearly could not keep up with how often the water need to be changed; it was like every other day.
Hey, I have some ivy and I've had it in water for over a month and it's been thriving! It seems to be okay. You could always try LECA + water too if you aren't having luck just growing in water
I got my first ivy yesterday, honestly I didn’t even know what it was till I had my mum identify it for me. Put it in a red pot I had for a long time because the previous plant died and I’m heavily optimistic about my ivy finally not being a plant sacrifice 😭
Hi. I currently have an ivy plant in my bedroom. I keep it by my window (she gets light, but not directly). Now, that's my problem, my mother watered the ivy too much and since I found out (that was 2 weeks ago) I didn’t watered her at all. I used to do it a little every 1 and a half / 2 weeks. It has some dry leaves that still fall and the stems seem quite weak, they are no longer stiff, but not all the plant is like that, it also has healthy and very green leaves. Do you think it will recover? What do you think I could do to her?Thank you very much for all the information, you are gorgeous❤
@@greenmable475 Hey!I think you're right. I also think it was because of my conditioned air too, she was somewhere near it so i think it was to cold for her. I changed her place on my balcony(i have my balcony inside so she gets fresh air everyday, and sun). She still has sone healty(at least they seem to be healty) leavs and i removed all the dead ones. Thank you so much for replying ❤️
Did your ivy ever recover? Because I had the same exact think happen. I watered infrequently and then suddenly I saw some crunchy leaves so I assumed she was thirsty and I watered a little too much and she was QUICK to get root rot. I was able to save some of it, but I killed 2 ivy plants and the parts I "saved" don't look great, just okay
My Ivy looks a little different from yours; mine has larger leaves It hasn't died, but has not grown in 9 months I'm totally perplexed Do you have any sugessions?
I got an ivy at the grocery store. The grocery store let it dry out so the soil was shriveled and bounced around in the pot! It has about 8 vines that are not completely dry. Still flexible with dry leaves. I removed most the dry leaves. Now there's one small live leaf. I bought it near death. Any tips for bringing it back?
Thank you for you extremely helpful video. I continuously kill my ivy. It starts out great and after about 2-3 months the leaves begin to fall off from the inside of the plant until the vines only have leaves towards the end of the vine. What am I doing wrong? My ivy was full and beautiful now it looks sparse.
If you are buying it from a store and haven't checked the roots, some plants will be constrained around the roots inside the pot. I've seen either one of those "biodegradable" bags or a little plastic container. Not sure if this is your issue, but worth checking for anyone regularly experiencing die off after a couple months!
Just found your channel and I got an ivy plant and it just started dying on me so I just stopped paying attention to the plant and then I looked at the plant one day and it actually started looking better. Not sure if me watering it every week like my other plants is what was killing it. I would like to get another one. I bottom water my plants.
I'm so excited to see a video with an ivy plant that looks just like mine! Thank you for explaining the bleached leaves. 🍃 I've recently noticed whitening on the top leaves of my ivy. After watching your video, I've learned that it's getting too much direct afternoon sun. I don't have a choice when it comes to windows, (only have front windows in my apartment) but I can move her further away. Also, would love to know what you think of grow lights and are they beneficial or needed for ivy plants such as ours. PS You give me confidence that I can bring more beautiful plants into my home, and keep them thriving with your help. Thank you ❤
Aww yay! twin ivies 🤗💚 I am so happy to help; thank you for watching! Grow lights can be beneficials for these, not but particularly necessary since they do well with indirect light. By moving it a bit further from the window, the ivy should be able to still capture enough energy from afternoon sun to grow happily.
Ya know, I never had issues with spider mites until we moved to this house. I try to deep clean more often and increase the humidity when I notice them. I do check the ivies most frequently.
Sprinkle true cinnamon on the top of the dirt, and if you do end up with spider mites, spray down the plant with water that had a couple cloves of garlic crushed into it. Works like a charm for me (especially when it comes to my sunflowers. Spider mites are a plague on them)
thanks for this video! what kind of water do you use when watering your ivy plants? i just purchased an english ivy and have been giving it filtered tap water that i run through my pur filtration system. only one of the leaves appears to have a tiny brown spot/hole and i have no idea what to expect... it can’t possibly be a good sign ;-(
Hi thanks for watching! I've used either. For this type of plant I have not noticed any difference between using tap or filtered water. I wouldn't let it bother you, it may just be the one leaf has expired.
You probably figured it out by now, but I use only distilled on my plants and it makes a huge difference. I bought a dedicated distiller to serve all their needs. My plants never did as well with filtered or tap water. There are still a lot of chemicals in filtered water that can harm your plants. If it's too much to distill or buy distilled often, it would be a good idea to use it at least on the ones you will eat. Just my two cents!
I wish you the best with growing your channel! I love your personality. My ivy is dying lol :( also, I clicked on your videos out of everyone else’s cause of the thumbnail pic of before and after ;) thanks for your tips!
Thank you so much for clicking and watching! 🤗I’m happy the impression was good; I recently changed it to this actually. Aww yeah unfortunately some ivies have expiration dates I’ve found.
Aww I recently bought an English ivy and it was so beautiful and I accidentally over watered it and I'm down to like 3 vines with like 4 leaves 😢😢 Seen some English ivy outdoors might go cut some and repott it
I once had an ivy that i used to water every other day, kept it low light and it was doing so well, amazing! It eventually died cause i forgot watering it. Fast fwd 2 yrs, got a new ivy, watered it the same and died in less than a week. Im confused! I got one this week and Ill try waiting until the soil is drier and hopefully it'll be ok, im still not understanding if it likes to be wait until dry or always be slightly moist.
I am learning still with mine. I have one in a very shady humid. spot outdoor that I don't water as often as I should, but it's doing fine. Whereas indoor it would be crumbling for water. Strange lol.
My ivy hates being dry!!!!! I have to spray it every day to keep it perky. And likes moist soil, not soggy. She is not very picky with lighting I have it hanging in a corner of my living room and gets very little light.
Hi, thank you for watching. I don't have that one, although I am familiar with it, it is quite beautiful. I may consider getting it now that you've mentioned that. 💚
@@greenmable475 It is; I think you'll like it. After watching this video I realized I was overwatering. After all, it's still an ivy hybrid. Hope mine survives!

Aww I recently bought an English ivy and it was so beautiful and I accidentally over watered it and I'm down to like 3 vines with like 4 leaves 😢😢
Seen some English ivy outdoors might go cut some and repott it
My first time watching your vid and omg I love it! ur happy bubbly personality, and all your info and help! Thanks xo
Hi Heidi! Thank you so much for your kindness. Wonderful! I am glad it was helpful. 💚
What does it need if the leaves just fall off?
Thank you for your video, I enjoyed your simplicity and subtle passion ♥️♥️ keep it goin !
How sweet! Thank you so much for your kind words, that made my day! 💚
you are soo humble 😍
@@greenmable475 haha still learning too. Ive put it in a medium light place and hope for the best
teracota potts helps to maintain air circulation with a root system so it drys faster.
Some of my succulents are lose in the pot what do I do to secure the roots in the soil?
Hi Rose, it sounds like the pot may be too large; perhaps use a smaller pot to help keep the roots in place.
@@greenmable475 thank you I’ll try that out :)
Can we grow indoor :; at east facing window !???
yes
You are so cute! And thank you for this video!
You are so welcome!
Good tip for removing ivy from walls throw a spade down the brick wall to remove large areas
How do u take random found ivy and plant it?
Hi Thanks for watching. You can clip a portion of the ends and place them in water. Once they grow roots you can plant them in soil into a pot. 💚
i can never get along with my ivies!! i’m hoping i’ll get it right this time🙏
Should I remove dead leaves and not water for a while?
Yes, hold off on the water for about one week and see how it responds. Thank you for watching!
Hey! So my ivy plant all the leaves are dead exept one vine what do 8 do
It's up to you. Feed the soil with fertilizer, be sure it is receiving good light exposure, and perhaps the leaves will grow back.
Just got some. Thankyou for sharing
Great. Thanks for watching! Enjoy 💚

You have the most beautiful plants!
thank you so much!
Lovely personality.
My ivy hates being dry!!!!! I have to spray it every day to keep it perky. And likes moist soil, not soggy. She is not very picky with lighting I have it hanging in a corner of my living room and gets very little light.
Ooo, lovely content, and exactly what I was looking for!

My ivy tends to have rotten leaves daily dont know her problem
Hi! Just found your channel while looking for help for the Pia Tree Ivy. Any advice? Is this a plant you'll review soon?
Hi, thank you for watching. I don't have that one, although I am familiar with it, it is quite beautiful. I may consider getting it now that you've mentioned that. 💚
@@greenmable475 It is; I think you'll like it. After watching this video I realized I was overwatering. After all, it's still an ivy hybrid. Hope mine survives!
Hello! I have wild ivy growing in my garden and would like to perhaps propagate some however unlike your ivy its very dark and some are even rounded?! Is it still okay to do so (i live in Ireland)
how do you get it so bushy and full looking? mine just looks so flat?
Hi thanks for watching! More light should help it become more bushy.
