    So I finally picked one up. Very great light, mine looks a lot richer blue than the video portrays. Question, do you think the side spill could be resolved by coating the inner sides of the aperture with something black? What do you think might work? I'm wondering if a tiny o-ring would fit in there.

      Luis Arias hey Luis, I did some measurements using the Mrad calculator on LPF and at 16feet the dot is around 4-5mm wide which puts the Divergence at apx 0.8-1.1 Mrad which would make sense because these are single mode diodes which in a short answer makes then a very tight dot and not a square or triangle. That also means the beam distance is really good on these. I hope this helps :)

    Hi, can you compare the 488 nm vs 492 nm wavelength laser from Sanwu? Both lengths are beautiful and I thinking about buying 492 nm or 488 nm. I can't decide because both colors are nice. 488nm is only available with max. power 80mw at 492 is 150mw. Is it the big difference between 80mw and 150mw in visibility and power?
    thanks a lot

      Hey E404, I don’t have the 492 from Sanwu :( their will be a pretty noticeable difference in output from 80 to 150. Not crazy noticeable but you’ll definitely notice the output increase. As far as color or wavelength, they’re very close and I have a 492-495nm C6 build and when I put them side by side, (the Sanwu 488 and my 495) they’re both beautiful and stunning. The 492-495nm is slightly greener. But I would honestly go with which one you can afford or like the most. They’re both pretty. You won’t regret either one :) hope this helps

    Got this thing in the mail yesterday and played around with it a bit, it’s a really pleasant color, and the beam is visible in a lit room. The size is really nice and I plan on getting other wavelengths of the pocket series, if anyone wants to get a sanwu pocket series they should definitely go with the 488nm if they have the money, or maybe a 492 if they want more power or something leaning more towards green. Mine is able to operate on normal AAA batteries just fine, it’s noticeably weaker but it’s still kinda bright, I’d say it puts out around 20mw on a AAA, so if you needed a lower power for some reason you might be able to use a AAA, you’ll just spend more money for replacements.

      Energizer 1.5V lithiums seem to work quite well for lower output. Definitely seems to be around 10-20mW. Great for enjoying the color with very little risk to eye damage. Unfortunately rechargeable 1.2V NiMh don't seem to lase at all. I'll be using AAA's primarily since wavelength is key. 10440's can make the dot/beam much brighter/visible, but that also adds risk of eye damage due to higher milliwatt output.
      Personally I would rather have 5-10mW lasers in every wavelength vs high power lasers that require protective eyewear. Wavelength > Strength.

    • @martinstahle2006
      @martinstahle2006 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want high quality beamshape and brightness with green color, the common 532nm are unbeaten. I dont know if the 525nm from Sanwu is the same Kind of Green Laser Diodes as the 532nm, but they are the most visible, because closest to 555nm. The most exotic green Laser from Sanwu ist the 505nm - weak output, but amazing beautiful. For me i would prefer the 488nm (if cyan), because it´s a bit closer to blue as 492nm- but of course that is a matter of taste.

    • @04mach1speed
      @04mach1speed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. That’s actually a good question. In paint and Ink you change the color by using very little of another color and that’s how it changes. In Lasers it technically works the same, you can go through hundreds of colors by just lowering and raising the current or output of the different wavelengths. That’s how RGB lasers work. They use Analog modulation. They use only three colors usually 520, 450 and 638. And the mind can be blown by just how many color combinations that will make. So back to your question of mixing Cyan Yellow and Magenta, your guess is as good as mine lol. But whatever color that it would make should still be able to be made by just changing the output of individual diodes of the RGB system :) hope this helps

    • @S8GE
      @S8GE 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So if mixing RGB(additive primary colors) gives us the entire VISIBLE spectrum, then I think mixing the opposite, CMY(subtractive primary colors), would cause them to cancel each other out and disappear or change into the entire INVISIBLE spectrum. Maybe infraRED and ultraVIOLET are part of the invisible spectrum😕. After all "Energy is Neither created Nor destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another."
      -Albert Ainstein-

    • @Flopsaurus
      @Flopsaurus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First, magenta lasers don't exist. But you could make one with a blue laser and a red laser collated into one beam. Additionally, the phenomenon of white light is an invention of our brains. White light doesn't actually exist. We think something looks white when the red, blue, and green cones in our retinas are being excited simultaneously. That being said, cyan light will excite the blue and green cones, yellow light will excite the red and green cones, and our invented red/blue magenta light will excite the red and blue cones. Thus, all three together would appear white. The eye wouldn't perceive a difference between white light created from CMY vs RGB.

    I have green, red and 445nm lasers. I'm looking at the Sanwu 488nm 55mW or Sanwu 492nm 100mW (both available in the Challenger ii). I'm leaning more towards the 492 because of the stronger 100mW which should make the beam more visible. But will I be happy with the color of 492 over 488? Is 492 still cyan? I already have the darker blue 445nm and want a Cyan color that has a decent visible beam.

    • @04mach1speed
      @04mach1speed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nick Eagle hey nick,
      Yes 492 vs 488 isn’t really that noticeable, the only way you’ll tell a difference is side by side or to use a Spectrometer but 492 is still technically cyan, and if I’m not mistaking those are actually both the same Sharp diode it’s just the 488 is drivin much lower so their isn’t an upshift in wavelength. Me personally, I would go with the 492nm because it’s still gonna be absolutely beautiful :)

    I think I found my next laser....man, that is absolutely gorgeous. The beam is so thick, but in an awesome, lightsaber-y way haha. My 1w 445nm is like that, but has crappy divergence (cheap diode, and it's now 5 years old)

    • @04mach1speed

      superdriver777 oh yeah. Those M140s and beyond have such horrible Divergence. I wish it was cheap and easy to get it down to where 532s are :( thanks for the comment SD777 :)

      Hey one more question for you then I wont bother you any more haha -- Were those beam shots in fog, or just impromptu in a regular room? The first one in a bathroom I figured was with the room steamy, but what about the ones at the end?

      2tones hello 2tones, no unfortunately you cannot use 1.2 - 1.5V cells like alkaline or NiNM. I have actually tried just to see what happens and the lasers barely even lit up, I used an alkaline and tried to meter it and my meter goes as low as 1mw and it didn’t even register, so it’s safe to say that the driver needs a minimum of probably 2.5-3V for threshold current to be applied 😬 hope this helps :)

    I have the 'mint green' 505nm laser, and I'm expecting the 488nm laser tomorrow afternoon! :-)
    The 505nm laser was advertised as 5mW but metered at 47mW; the 488nm laser is advertised as being 1mW; we'll see what comes out in the wash. :-)
    My spectrometer is still on the loose (I can't find it right at the moment) but when I do I'm going to perform those analyses pronto!
    My review of the 505nm laser on my website is at www.ledmuseum.net/51/505green.htm if anybody is interested.

      telephony oh that's awesome :-) I will have to check that out. I would live to have a spectrometer but I can't afford one :( I honestly didn't know 488 could go as low as 1mw I have to honest a 1 mw 488nm pointer at 1mw would actually be kinda cool, you'll have to let me know how you like it :-)

    • @telephony
      @telephony 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My 488nm unit spectroed at 488.71nm, but it metered not 1mW, but 73mW!
      Spectrometers are expen$ive yes, but I happened to have somebody loan me theirs for a brief time in 2007 before I returned it, but when his business went down the tube in 2008, he so graciously donated it to me/my website! :-)
      Anyway, my evaluation of the studly little laser is at www.ledmuseum.net/51/488blue.htm if you or anybody else is interested.

      @04mach1speed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cooper 426 haha that guy I swear. He’s a smart dude lol! It would be so hard to make a 1 watt Cyan. You could just mix a powerful 462 and 520 and just tweak the current on either of them until the color is just right when firing through a dichroic filter. Or just build multiple 492s together in a box using some beam splitters. One of these days that’s how I’m gonna do my Magenta laser. I’m a procrastinator so it’ll probably never get done 😂😂
