- A brief description of gaslighting and an explanation of the term that originates from the play and film "Gaslight" (1944) starring Ingrid Bergman. This is a short snippet from a longer video podcast on narcissism and narcissistic abuse. Watch the full episode: • Responding to a Narcis...
This is the best and simplest explanation of Gaslighting that I’ve ever seen.
Well done.
New sub
Cheers!
I actually posted the link to this video in the comments of another video about gaslighting from one of those “Trust me! I’m a Doctor! No really! I’m a Doctor, Doctor for real and for true!” channels because he went on and on for eleven minutes and just confused the issue.
So I hope I haven’t unwittingly started a TH-cam’s war!
what he said.
Best explanation of the origin of the term, something which helps us to be more precise in our speech and therefore our thinking. Really appreciate it, thank you.
This is so cruel. Yet so many people do it.
Yes. That’s the nature of abuse unfortunately.
What is also cruel is the misuse of the term
Thank you. I was trying to explain gaslighting, but not doing a very good job, then we saw this. Great and simple explanation.
I was too! This is great!
It's important to note here that the gaslighting was intentiional and malicious. Sadly, we have evolved into a society that wants to label everyone who disagrees with us as gaslighters. The word is losing a lot of credibility.
Exactly! It's waaaay overused.. or should I say... misused
It started out as a stage play written by Patrick Hamilton in 1938.
Then the 1940 film directed by Thorold Dickinson (starring Diana Wynyard).
Then the 1944 film directed by George Cukor (starring Ingrid Bergman).
Staring Ingrid Bergman (she won an Oscar) but also cruel Charles Boyer (nominated, didn’t win). The film also stares 18 year old Angela Lansbury (nominated for supporting actress), Joseph Cotten and Dame May Whitty.
A superior movie ❤
Greetings from France 🇫🇷
well done. great explanation and use of film footage.
this shit is triggering, thanks man for the explanation
Thank you
I never knew what this word meant until around 2020. Learned a lot of new English words since I temporarily left from my tribe.
I wish people would use this term correctly, so often people say "You're trying to gaslight me." when someone merely disagrees with them.
Thank you.

Lol.
Pls thr complete film
They will also make you believe that you are ugly and nobody would truly love you. They are the only one who will love you. I’ve seen this happen to people around me
So would computer throttling apply ? How about your phone listening in and giving ads ?
Tjanks!
The original is 1940. It was remade in 1944. Your history is a little off but a good little video you made
Correct. The original 1940 one is the British version, which in turn is based on the play. I used the 1944 film since it is more well known among American audiences.
Doesn’t change the msg 😂 let it go
A+ 😎
See the earlier version of the film. Much creepier.
You mean 1940 that One is the OG the 1944 is remake
Yet again, yes I know. The original 1940 one is the British version, which in turn is based on the play. I used the 1944 film since it is more well known among American audiences.
La versione italiana,
The term is misused and overused these days. People use it to describe simple, outright lying, misdirection, or to describe people who are insistent, or who don't agree with your views.
Chicks do this all the time 😂
