I love it so much that although prog music is the centre of your channel (and that's more than fine with me!) you are open to other forms of music (as I am). I have always loved the Talking Heads and this ranking was so much fun. Talking Heads very clearly stand on the periphery of prog and are "progessive pop" or "art rock". But the important thing is: It's fantastic music and "Remain in Light" is one of my Top-100-records of all time ("Fear of Music" comes close). Go on with bands and artists like this from time to time. What about a ranking of Velvet Underground (who weren't even mentioned recently on another channel which I watch and love in a series about "favorite debuts of all time" - go figure!) ?
OMG, I came here skeptical, anticipating not liking your ranking. Fear of Music at the top??!! Yes!! My favorite also. I thought everyone forgot about that album. Your top 3 are spot on, but I personally like More Songs a bit more than Remain in Light. But can't believe you nailed it. Good taste.
You got the top 3 spot on. Like you, I go back and forth between Remain in Light and Fear of Music for my number 1 . . . but I always settle on Fear of Music.
Totally agree with you about 'Fear of Music' - my favorite T Heads album and one of my favorites from anybody. I saw them on that tour in '79 in Berkeley, and the show was as great as the record; if you get a chance to hear anything from that tour, check it out. Byrne makes amazing animal noises! I'll send you an email with a few photos from the gig attached....
Good to know. Remain In Light is currently the only Talking Heads album I listened to in its entirety and I was wondering what other albums I should check out next? I'm thinking either Fear of Music or Speaking in Tongues.
great show. thank you. i love the talking heads! my big brother brought home 77 in 77 and i feel in love with it. bought all their albums on vinyl and cd. my opinion, Remain In Light Fear of Music Naked 77 More Songs Building Food Speaking In Tongues Little creatures True Stories
Talking Heads absolutely incredible , in fact they're in my top 5 of US acts , they're in great company and in no particular order along with Mamas and the Papas , Steely Dan , Blondie , and Simon and Garfunkel. I would have to choose Speaking in Tongues as my top pick , but all great in truth. Great stuff Scot. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Remain in Light won me over so much with the fusions of all the tracks, especially their track inspired by Joy Division. Speaking in Tongues is also incredible especially the final track, possibly my favourited ballad of all time. Stop Making Sense while a live album in my opinion is their third best album with possibly some of the greatest renditions of their tracks, especially tracks from Fear of Music, which is an album I personally don't like but I love the changes they made to all the tracks from that album, making them incredible.
Et tu, Scot? True Stories doesn't cut the mustard, sir? One of the most underrated and under-appreciated albums of all time! Much MUCH better than Little Creatures. I even rank it higher than Speaking In Tongues, though that too is a great album. But hey, you're such a cool guy, you're allowed to be wrong every once in a while. :) You're certainly in good company. Everyone ranks it at the bottom but me! But i will defend it until the day I die. Papa Legba, one of my top ten Heads songs. Absolutely love it!
Love the Talking Heads! Their music was definitely unique and pushed boundaries but I think that Byrne was also one of the best lyricists of his generation. The lyrics to “Life During Wartime” alone are mind-blowing. Of all the thousands of songs about war I think it hits the hardest.
You should check out Fela Kuti if you haven't heard of him already, huge influence on Heads starting with Fear of Music era, Eno discovered Kuti's music before and was the one who got band into listening to him.
Great list, Scot! In my opinion TH were the best band of the Eighties. I thought you would put Remain in Light at Number One, but I guess I can settle for a number two spot! 😎
I recall when 77 came out, I was a sophmore in High School and it really confused others. I had no problem because I was a huge Stranglers fan. But I didn't really appreciate them until 1986, We had our first boy and a friend gifted it to me soley for Stay Up Late and we played it to death, still play it. So I had hoped it would be higher but I have a strong personal reason for that.
Hey, i love Talking Heads! Byrne & Eno made another good album together: Everything that happens will happen today. Not as good as My life in the bush of ghosts maybe, but still very nice.
My favourite new wave band. I love Talking Heads even True Stories, the film is pretty freaky too. And what about David’s solo stuff? At least one stoned cold classic with Bush of Ghosts, so good. Catherine Wheel not too shabby either. Both Talking Heads live albums are killer. I prefer Name of the Band is….but the concert film Stop Making Sense is one of the best concert films ever. It’s hard to say which album is the one I love most as it changes from time to time but if I could only have one I suppose I have to go with Remain in Light. I have hi-res versions of those earlier albums and they are some of the best sounding albums I have. Just incredible! Are they Prog? I’ll call them New Wave Prog, how’s that? Have you checked out David’s American Utopia film? Another stellar “concert” film. So clever! Excellent band.
wow Scot, you and I are right in line on this ranking. 👍👍You didn't mention Electric Guitar.. I love that weirdness. All classic stuff. Btw, you may be IN the Nude, but when the material comes off, you GET Naked! 😂 Peace, brother.👨🏻
Looking forward to seeing this. I had Naked and Stop Making Sense, and played them both to the ground. The SMS concert sold out the Cambridge theater for weeks on end. My first Byrne concert was in '85 at Harvard, where he sang for Robert Wilson's epic opera "the CIVIL warS" playing at their American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.). The production featured music by Philip Glass and others, including David Byrne, who contributed the "Knee Plays" section. Here is the "Knee Play" I most remember: th-cam.com/video/ngVGxYLRrZ0/w-d-xo.html
Us Scot's consider Talking Heads a great Scottish band. David Byrne. 'nuff said 🤣 Just kiddin'. Thanks for another great ranking video. Informative and entertaining.
Great ranking. I got a guy who always argues that the 1st album is better than the 2nd. I beg to differ, but its all good. Such a legendary band 8. True Stories 7. Nude (haha) 6. '77 5. Little Creatures 4. Speaking In Tongues 3. Remain In Light 2. More Songs About Buildings And Food 1. Fear Of Music
Surprised to see Little Creatures ranked higher than Nude and '77 - most rankings I've seen usually put it at the bottom with True Stories. Definitely agree that Naked is an under-rated album. My own personal ranking: 8/10: True Stories, Little Creatures 9/10: Nude, '77, More Songs about Buildings & Food 10/10: Fear of Music, Speaking in Tongues, Remain in Light
@TheProgCorner ~ Thanks, Scot. l REALLY should have given that little poem more context. I worked with a big Talking Heads fan at one of my myriad record store jobs. HE never forgave Byrne for breaking up the band, so l wrote it from HIS point of view. That is all.
8. Little Creatures 7. Nude 6. True Stories 5. Talking Heads ‘77 4. Speaking In Tongues 3. Fear Of Music 2. More Songs About Buildings And Food 1. Remain In Light
By the way, here's my own ranking. 8 Little Creatures 7 Naked 6 Speaking in Tongues 5 True Stories 4 77 3 More Songs About Buildings and Food 2 Remain In Light 1 Fear of Music So we're really not that far about. But True Stories rules!
YES!! Do Concret Blonde Dude!! I Love "Tomorrow Wendy"!! = Soo Creepy!.. As far as Talking Heads goes.. They are "OK". I LIKE their Radio stuff! I do not know their albums though, as I should! I know that Adrian Belew is closesly associated, And I LOVE his time with King Crimson! = I should check it out! But David Byrne, Really Buggs & Annoise me a bit!.. I Really Hate his Voice! He is Unique and Very Noteable, but not Loveable as a voice.. But PERFECT for his Band! IMHO.. This is a Great Band for the books! Check them out.. Are they PROG = No.. ART ROCK = YES! They are WEIRD...
Maybe just me but really was into them when they hit the scene but not lately. The music just doesn’t have the depth of KingCrimson or Police. More New Wave vibes that I never was into. Prog on….
Hellow bro... in my opinion pink floyd is the best rock prog music of all times. Pink floyd no.1!!! What is your opinion about the great rock band of all times...?
Naked. Nude. Whatever!!! Sorry about being an idiot.
You don't need to apologise for your shortcomings 😅
You must have had Camel on the brain!
That’s right!!!! I love that album!!!!
Facts of Life my favourite track off of Undressed.😂
Remain In Light! Talk about a record that feels like it's going to take off. Love it!
For sure!!!
I love it so much that although prog music is the centre of your channel (and that's more than fine with me!) you are open to other forms of music (as I am). I love Lou Reed so I can see a Velvets episode coming!!!
So glad you put FOM in first place! The song “Drugs” is incredible!
I love it!!!
Good taste.
The Top Three are all 10/10!!!
Talking Heads "Fear of Music", is the major theme for "Thela Hun Ginjeet" of King Crimson!
Indeed!!!
What a fantastic video have a great day Scot also I am a fan of the talking heads 😊❤
They are incredible!!!
Your #1 is one of my favorite albums ever!
Mine too!!!
You got the top 3 spot on. Like you, I go back and forth between Remain in Light and Fear of Music for my number 1 . . . but I always settle on Fear of Music.
The three Eno albums!!!
Thanks for doing this. I guess I know who I'll be listening to on the ride home from the office.
Amazing video!
Thank you
Anther great video! Thank you, Scott.
👍👍👍
Great video Scott, yep, Fear of Music all day! The moment I heard that 1st track I Zimbra, I was hooked
Me too!!!!
Totally agree with you about 'Fear of Music' - my favorite T Heads album and one of my favorites from anybody. Awesome!!!!!!
Great list. Remain In Light is definitely my favorite - I think it’s one of the best albums ever. I’d also put 77 higher.
👍👍👍
Remain In Light...wow
So good!!!
Good to know. Remain In Light is currently the only Talking Heads album I listened to in its entirety and I was wondering what other albums I should check out next? I'm thinking either Fear of Music or Speaking in Tongues.
Fear Of Music is the one!!!!! And you get Robert Fripp too…
Really nice seeing you do some non prog rankings, also i think it would be nice redoing your top albums of all time including non prog albums
That would be a lot of fun!!!
Scott I missed part of ( too much info was having a shower )
So agree with you with your #1 .
So weird Scott I met and am working with a colleague of yours Glen Kellaway
You nailed it man! I might flip More Songs and Fear of Music, but those top three albums are unassailable!
I agree!!! All three are 10/10 to me.
great show. thank you. i love the talking heads! my big brother brought home 77 in 77 and i feel in love with it. bought all their albums on vinyl and cd. my opinion,
Remain In Light
Fear of Music
Naked
77
More Songs Building Food
Speaking In Tongues
Little creatures
True Stories
Awesome!!!!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’ve heard Remain in Light, the first 4 songs are awesome and the other ones are mid. But I’m probably going to check the rest out, great video!
Thank you!!!!
77 it's my Favourite!! And Road To Nowhere is my TH Song!!! Congrats Scot!!❤

Hey! I’m willing to admit when I’m wrong. I will listen to it again tonight…
nice job, love your rankings, now do ROXY MUSIC ................. PLEASE
Soon!!! I love Roxy!!!!
Love the Talking Heads! Their music was definitely unique and pushed boundaries but I think that Byrne was also one of the best lyricists of his generation. The lyrics to “Life During Wartime” alone are mind-blowing. Of all the thousands of songs about war I think it hits the hardest.
An excellent point!!! The lyrics to Drugs, for example…
You should check out Fela Kuti if you haven't heard of him already, huge influence on Heads starting with Fear of Music era, Eno discovered Kuti's music before and was the one who got band into listening to him.
I love Fela Kuti!!!
That's a very fine ranking for an absolutely fantastic band, I agree about Naked, I love it. (BTW is it called Nude in America?).
No, it Naked. I’m an idiot!!!
Great list, Scot! In my opinion TH were the best band of the Eighties. I thought you would put Remain in Light at Number One, but I guess I can settle for a number two spot! 😎
My Top Three are all perfect albums so…
I recall when 77 came out, I was a sophmore in High School and it really confused others. I had no problem because I was a huge Stranglers fan. But I didn't really appreciate them until 1986, We had our first boy and a friend gifted it to me soley for Stay Up Late and we played it to death, still play it. Hey, i love Talking Heads! Byrne & Eno made another good album together: Everything that happens will happen today. Not as good as My life in the bush of ghosts maybe, but still very nice.
👍👍👍
Love Concrete Blonde as well. I’m sure you’ve checked out their side project, Pretty + Twisted, which is a one-off album.
I have and I love it!!!!
Great to see this list ! If prog actually means progressive, then Talking Heads qualify.
Absolutely!!!
Have you checked out David’s American Utopia film? Another stellar “concert” film. So clever! Excellent band.
And Tom Tom Club too!!!!
@
Hmm…let’s not go too far!
I was disappointed with the Tom Tom Club. Not so good in my books.
Yes! Fear Of Music and Drums And Wires, are my two favorite albums of 1979 .
1979 was so good!!!! Wire, The Clash, Joe Jackson, The Police, The Jam…
wow Scot, you and I are right in line on this ranking. 👍👍You didn't mention Electric Guitar..
I love that weirdness.
All classic stuff. Btw, you may be IN the Nude, but when the material comes off, you GET Naked! 😂
Peace, brother.👨🏻
That’s the spirit!!!! (Never trust electric guitars…)
@ watch out for "crimes against the State" Scot!😉
Looking forward to seeing this. I had Naked and Stop Making Sense, and played them both to the ground. The SMS concert sold out the Cambridge theater for weeks on end. Us Scot's consider Talking Heads a great Scottish band. David Byrne. 'nuff said 🤣 Just kiddin'. Thanks for another great ranking video. Informative and entertaining.
👍👍👍
Cool band, unique sound for sure 👌
Indeed!!!!
More Songs is one of my favourite albums of all time.
Great list. No notes. I might put Discipline at #1.
Great ranking. I got a guy who always argues that the 1st album is better than the 2nd. I beg to differ, but its all good. Such a legendary band

My own personal ranking:
8/10: True Stories, Little Creatures

10/10: Fear of Music, Speaking in Tongues, Remain in Light
I have a soft spot for Little Creatures!!!

It is . I’m dumb.
@TheProgCorner No! "You got it. You got it "
3. More Songs
2. 77
3. Fear of Music
All top 50 at my top 50 list of all times. Fear of Music possibly top 1.
So good!!!
More Songs is my favorite.
Love it.
Talking Heads would maybe be classified as New Wave or possibly Post Punk. 🤷🏼
I gotta take your word for it. I only own your #2
The Top Three are 10/10 records!!!
I pretty much agree with your whole list. Fear of Music is best and IT IS PROG (along with Remain in Light)!
Absolutely!!!
Just perfect!
As far as being 'prog', I wouldn't call the Heads 'prog', but 'progressive'.
There you go!!!
"Fear of Music" is a excelent great album.
Yes!!!
I think Scot could talk himself into thinking any group is Prog. Abba…are they Prog? What about Village People? Hilarious!
Slight correction, Robert. Any group I enjoy. Because if I like a band then they must be Prog, right? But I do believe in the BIG TENT.
Good one, Scot.
“Screed”
Burn, David, Burn
For Speaking out of turn
You broke up the band
Totally unplanned
If you’re Naked, or nude
It was rather crude
No Talking, no Head
You left them for dead
Your solo career
Was never quite clear
The Little Creatures you sought
Were never truly bought
More Songs About Broadway
Is that how you play?
For Fear of success
You never took requests
And at your behest,
Thanks for letting me get this off of my chest.
©️DSB, Inc. 10/30/24.
Cheers, mate!

Fantastic!!!!
@TheProgCorner ~ Thanks, Scot. l REALLY should have given that little poem more context.
I worked with a big Talking Heads fan at one of my myriad record store jobs. HE never forgave Byrne for breaking up the band, so l wrote it from HIS point of view. That is all.
