there is alot I would have added to this. I help my grandpa make them. He makes pedalmaster steel guitars. sells them all around the world, also makes alot of left handed steel guitars.
I have been a machinist all of my life and I could see how a person could have great pride in building one of these fine instruments. They would have to run me off at the end of the day .. lol
Kurtis Lee How many machinists might enjoy some woodworking in their spare time? Much is similar, the material is merely softer, and the separate approaches to finishing each medium, although dissimilar, share the same desired aesthetic in the results phase. If they're gonna run you off, they have to catch you first....
@@truthbetold8610 Sometimes you do strum it, I have experimented w/ using a Bottle Neck on the Pedal Steel Guitar (sometimes called Pedal Slide Guitar cause you use a Slide) & it does produce an interesting sound.
@@truthbetold8610 To make mine easier to play I use the lightest gauge of strings & because of my vocal range I tune mine down a whole step from C6 so it's Bb6.
@armenianzombie Like auto's it is easy to make one but to make a GOOD one takes time and skill and a market that will pay for it. Pedal steels are the Cream of the stringed world and require a dedication and knowledge of musical relationship that most do not have. But to hear one played by a Master is pure pleasure.
@rhblakeman The demand isn't high enough, I guarantee you if the major guitar companies wanted to, they could easily make a cheap pedal steel especially considering the difficulty of creating them appears to be really really easy.
There are some cheaply made "student models", but they typically end up having major flaws that require better than average mechanical skill to fix, thus most players recommend that beginners stay away from those models. Having an instrument break while one is learning, can be a big hurdle that makes some people give up.
for me only a dream im a country Music singer but just poor guy also ! lol. nice work ! i am also a carpenter and folk artist creative what a challenge building one of those would be !!
@TheAngello120 ....No, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that hard for a factory to make a pedal steel, it seems like the only things that really would take time is making sure the setup was correct, mass manufacturing all the basic parts is easy as balls, it's all metal. Also, Cars are way way easier, and cost effective, to make in factories, in large batches than it is to make a single car.
NEVER HEARD OF " COPPER COATED" WIRE FOR USE IN MAKING PICKUPS?, HAVEN'T LOCATED ANY SUCH THING ANYWHERE, TYPICAL WIRE USED IS ABOUT 42 GAUGE COPPER WITH VARIOUS INSULATION COATINGS, REGARDS.
To answer some questions... this is Eddie Fulawka of Penetanguishene Ontario...and his shirt says "I'm not a thief but I steel" If you look at my pic I am playing one of his steels This video is great but still doesn't really show how much work there is making a steel! Eddie has told me it takes about 80 hours to complete one.
I see simplicity and honesty within your content. Wishing you more future success and support, friend. 💕
PEDAL STEEL GUITARS...I NEVER SAW THAT BEFORE, THANK FOR RARE VIDEO.

Amazing quality of work.
The pedals are used to raise and lower strings. They raise one string to a certain note and they lower strings to certain notes.
Eddie Fulwalka is a fantastic man and builds a great instrument.
See you in St Louis Ed!!
Haven't any of you heard of Leon McAuliffe? Bob Wills music circa 1936 He used PSG on Steel Guitar Rag, which he also wrote!!!
Leon was the Man! Kept the band going after Bob's passing. Love those Playboys!
It's a shame why there isn't more pedal steel heard in day to day life! I feel your pain
0:20 What song is that?
Hey my friend, amazing video as always! Big ike from me yet again and keep connected!
And it's just that simple!
so its like a lap slide guitar... but hat are the pedals used for?
what song is played on the steel guitar at the beginning of the episode?
thanks
-Liam
BY THE WAY, WHO IS TYHIS IN THE VIDEO? THANKS
Fantastic 😻
It's a Slide Guitar. You slide the slide up & down the strings as you strum them, while operating Pedal & Knee Levers.
They're plucked, not strummed.

Good information you share, Thankyou 👍

The steel guitar separates the men from the boys.
Sierra made one with gearless tuners and a 25" scale.
@acompanyofwolves lol- it says "I'm not a thief" as is in " steal" guitar. Cool shirt
The pedals are used to raise and lower strings on the steel guitar.
They raise and lower the pitch of the strings, they don't raise and lower the actual strings
Hi my friend
Have a nice day~~~
Does anyone know anybody that can make a 14 string pedal steel guitar?
Do these guitars have truss rods?
Why would it need one?
I don't know.
Don't need one, there's no stress on the fretboard.
No, it's not necessary
Thats really cool.
lol all I could hear was spongebob when the guy plays at the beginning
@RonnieRambin lol it kinda does
Holy crap these things have whammy bars?????
What's seen is as follows:
"I'm Not A Thief, But I Steel"
in reference to the metal.
lindo show
I tune my Pedal Steel Guitar down a Half Step to make the high notes easier on my Voice.

Well done.

no wonder pedal steels are so expensive.
Exactly my thought. So much precision work, such a huge task to complete. Worth every second!
@@Kenjock3000 They would have to be machine built to cut the price down
I play acoustic and electric guitar, and after seeing these videos, I feel like a wimp.

I believe it!
@bigmark500 I'm looking. If not, I will make you one. And that's a promise
backround music had no pedal steel, lol
Like👍📹📹🎈↗🌈🌈🌈👍👍👍👍👍
Too bad the vid is incomplete =(
I know, at the very end, you can see papy smiling at the camera/viewer after he finishes an outro. It just melts your heart.
This is so full of gaps it would make a great cheese grater. Maybe then they could grate the potato they filmed this on.
hawaii style
sounds like texas music..
It's not a guitar, it's a console
how electric guitars work by a sound pick up
Get out your pocket book.
The background music is so incredibly annoying that I couldn't finish watching an otherwise interesting piece!
sorta like porn music
This instrument is so annoying
+Satoshi9801 Why is it? Let me guess, you hate country music lol?
Nah, I was just making a reference to Ed, Edd n Eddy.
+Satoshi9801 gotcha lol.
"Don't rub salt in the wound Eddy. You know how much I hate this instrument"
Bet you're glad I've found this comment from the Jonathan Reynolds archives hahaha. *You* The Joke---->
