This video made me buy my first D10. I haven’t stopped watching since I bought a steel the day I moved to Nashville 6 months ago. Tommy is my steel hero!
I'm new to all these famous players but right away, I heard that Tommy sounds so different than the older players. Some of the licks are out of this world. I even heard him sound like Allan Holdsworth sounded on guitar. Amazing.
Tommy is my absolute favorite player these days.. I wish there was more video available of him for us west coast guys.. What he brings to the steel guitar world is unsurpassed technique, respect for the pioneers and so much soul... He just kills me...!
Gee whizz boys. This guy is the incomparable Tommy White..He is the staff steel guitarist for the grand ole opry in Nashville Tennesee..which autmatically make you one of the best musicians on the planet
@southernsportsman424 Using two feet for the pedals on the C6 neck is common but you rarely see it happening on TV broadcasts as the camera is usually concentrated on the hands..... or if its a UK producer they normally show the fiddle or a fender strat during a steel guitar solo cos they havn't a clue which instrument the sound is comimg from !! Instructional videos will show the feet and the use of both feet on C6th pedals .
Tommy is a Pretty nice person, I met him he was setting up for a midnight jam at Ernest Tubbs Rec Shop and Louvin Museum. He talked to me for quite a while and said I got to go get ready for the opry,I also heard him at the Steel Convention,TOTALLY awesome player, A Machine Thanks
Just some trivia of the 614 model number; told to me by John Campbell. Jimmy Webb came in and asked John, "How many strings are there on a steel guitar?". Johns says, "Anywhere from 6 to 14".
Austin, It was produced by Pedal Head alonh with Bruce Bouton! Its called Hot Licks and Cool tips or Cool licks and Hot tips! It was on the SGF last time i saw it for sale!
at 2:35, it is super cool how he moves his right foot off the volume pedal, to depress one of the other pedals, never seen a steel player do that before, cool suspended chord
Great sound! This reminds me of my cousin, the late Curly Chalker. Harold Lee "Curly" Chalker is a departed great of the pedal steel guitar, known as "Curls" to his friends and known surely by his sound, if not actually by his name, to mobs of country music fans. Chalker reached a huge audience playing steel guitar on the somewhat moronic Hee Haw television series for 18 years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curly_Chalker
Curly Chalker was a true virtuoso if pedal steel guitar; I watched him as a kid, on late night TV on the Hugh X. Lewis Country Club and then on Hee Haw . I wore the grooves completely off his album Big Hits On Big Steel, which my Dad bought me when I was 10. Curly blew me away, man, truly.
Amen! Curly was the "King of chords" if there ever one. NO one will ever equal him in that endeavor. Yes Tommy White is truly one of THE greatest SG players; but the likes of Buddy Emmons and Curly Chalker have NO equals and never will. And that is those yet unborn May Jesus rest their souls.
My favorite Steeler, Tommy and late great John Hughey are the kind of players with that sweet edge to there technics that sets them apart from everyone else. Thanks for sharing this great vid. Only one question? who is the jerk that entered the one dislike on this vid? They must play a instrument that you blow into !!! Just an obersvation!!!!!
Great playing. How about organizing a benefit concert for those of us that can't afford the two thousand dollar entrance fee for these beautiful instruments ? just kidding but man are these pedal steels ever bleeping expensive !!
Not sure what you're getting at here. Jimmy Webb didn't design or build the amps; he financed the operation. George Moore was the designer with input from John Campbell. Most were built by Ann Anderson.
Im Matthew White Tommy's real life brother. and im so proud of his... He is the best ever to play a steel... Love you bro... My facebook Matthew Faded White... look me up im about to drop my album in 2016....
@Fandangle.... They're called fret markers!! Why the insulting tone?? (Not your tone, Tommy...you're awesome!). If your joking...out a smiley after your comment. Only way to know...if you're kidding, or being mean.
James Seddon, you have got to be kidding, Tommy White, the greatest pedal steel guitarist in the world, was playing professionally way before Robert Randolph was even born! BTW Robert Randolph plays mostly blues, R&B, funk, and rock, not Jazz, and tone... Tommy, the MASTER of TONE AND TECHNIQUE, has so much tone he could share with RR and a thousand other steel guitarists, and still have enough left over to be the indisputable King of TONE, any genre, anytime, anywhere! Totally different league, there's no comparison, TW is simply the best by far! Trust me on this, I've been listening to Steel Guitar Music since I was born in 1960.
@@pedalsteelin7360 Amen, amen and AMEN! You took the words right out of my mouth. For Tommy White comes the closest to Buddy Emmons (THE greatest SG player that will ever live) when it comes to "touch and tone". Robert Rudolph simply is not in this circle. He plays a lot of SG and he has MANY fans; but he could not carry Buddy's nor Tommy's case. NO way! The world should remember this: "True Jazz on a SG is RARELY done. Rather they "Jam", which is like Mac Atcheson's rhetoric: "It reminds me of a little boy in the back yard, shootin a 22 rifle in the air. He AINT hittin nothing; he's just shootin!".
I’m not in any way related to Robert Randolph musically or other wise. Love Robert’s playing. I don’t consider Robert a jazz player and neither does he. I’m the last true pedal steel jazz player living. Check yourself.

Tommy White is the absolute BEST!
no words can express Tommys tone, taste, .. he is truly one of the very best at what he does.... just knocks me out!!!!
Tommy is the closet thing to The Big E sound so much alike, great tone.
Tommy is my absolute favorite player these days.. I wish there was more video available of him for us west coast guys.. What he brings to the steel guitar world is unsurpassed technique, respect for the pioneers and so much soul... He just kills me...!
Gifted and beautiful
I never get tired of Tommys playing, This is GREAT~

That's so far over my head I only know it as a great solo piece too. Tommy's the best!

What an inspiration!!
this is as good as it gets. What a genius.
You play so well, from one steel guitar lover to another one !!!!!!!!!!!!
"PapaYellowSteel".
Jazz + pedal steel = love
I just got my instructional video today on E9 steel guitar. Its called Hot Licks and Cool Tips for E9th tuning. I found mine at Amazon. GREAT!!!
Could listen to Tommy playing steel all day long!

My goodness! The fact that he can do all that...I think...qualifies him as the eighth wonder
of the world.

Well damn. This guy could sit in with Charlie Parker and not sound out of place.
Thank you!
Monster player with monster tone!
Austin,
It was produced by Pedal Head alonh with Bruce Bouton! Its called Hot Licks and Cool tips or Cool licks and Hot tips!
It was on the SGF last time i saw it for sale!
Mind boggling, simply mind boggling. This puts all those novice steelers, like myself, to humbling shame.
Fucking hell!!! This guy has got it all - and then some!
Thank you!
How does he fit 6 minutes of playing into 3 minutes and still sound so great .
Thank you Jimmy!
Because he is Danny White.
I never get tired of hearing him
This is at the end of the E9th lessons. Its some C6 stuff he closes the video with.
So good
Been delving into steel guitar players because I want to learn it soon..this guy is incredible 🤯🤯
That's What Friends Are For.........
This Steel coming to Oregon as of Feb 2020.
Great..beautiful
Marcelo Maya - Brasil
This is what a great steel player is. Someone that needs no backup and can do it all!
Anyone know what this video is cut from? The credits rolling over it make me think it was the opening of a longer video or documentary
Thank you Motzi!

Good Lord !!!!!!
there are so many good steel players it's not funny. but tommy is one of the best. he's a real inspiration. he makes it talk.
WOW VERY NICE TOMMY
Thank you!
Molto bello. Nice.
wow !! bélissimo !
That thing looks just like the Supro that I used to have. It was either a Pony or maybe that's what we used to call it; Was a pretty good guitar.
What is the song he's playing at 2:22? It's driving me nuts can't figure it out.
Kind of makes me think of "a remark you made" by weather report
Probably the verse of "That's What Friends Are For". If that's what it is, he changes the melody and chords a little.
I believe you’re right. Thank you!
You hear everyone talk about the best there is but there is a reason there are almost 200,000 views on this clip!"World's #1 ya know!
Great playing. How about organizing a benefit concert for those of us that can't afford the two thousand dollar entrance fee for these beautiful instruments ? just kidding but man are these pedal steels ever bleeping expensive !!
great vid!
what planet do you come from? that is a pedal steel guitar and how it's played.
Jamie, where can I find Tommy"s "C-Jam Blues"? Thanks for posting this great solo!
@MarkDally He doesn't need them! They are standard on every fretboard. Most manufacturers have a different symbol that represents their brand.
damn
Anyone know what kind of amp he's playing out of?
Ha! I mumbled the same thing and then saw your post!!!
Mooooorrrrrrrr....
Not sure what you're getting at here. Jimmy Webb didn't design or build the amps; he financed the operation. George Moore was the designer with input from John Campbell. Most were built by Ann Anderson.
and Rochel warde
J'ai découvert cet instrument grâce à RUSS HICKS qui a joué avec Eddy Mitchell
Im Matthew White Tommy's real life brother. and im so proud of his... He is the best ever to play a steel... Love you bro... My facebook Matthew Faded White... look me up im about to drop my album in 2016....
+Kelly Thomas he no doubt IS the BEST steel guitarist living today...i mean come on, staff steelie on opry!!!!
I am sure that Tommy White would say, "NO! Buddy Emmons is the greatest SG player that will ever have lived! May Jesus rest his precious soul!".
@DuluthMinnestoa Looks like a Webb
should give credit to the real person that designed and hand built many of the Webb amplfiers.
Ok, so it is possible
@Fandangle....
They're called fret markers!! Why the insulting tone?? (Not your tone, Tommy...you're awesome!).
If your joking...out a smiley after your comment. Only way to know...if you're kidding, or being mean.
i quit
lol
+fandangle lol
I QUIT................
If he's so good, why does he need coloured dots to see where he's playing??
...and here i thought George Clooney was just a movie star!
'TOMMY WHITE', have you had 'LESSONS' from 'ROBERT RANDOLPH' the greatest 'JAZZ' steel guitarist in 'AMERICA'? !!!
