While I was listening to the song, I was twenty years old, and when the song ended, I suddenly remembered that I was already living in my seventh decade.
Bless you little brother🤙🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🥹
Me too!
Me three!
Don't worry.
You guys are still the dumb, irresponsible kids we all were. We forget because the whole 'responsible adult' thing takes up so much time that we forget.
Since you're in your 70's and your responsibilities are done, I suggest you dig out your old clothes from that era and start raising hell again.
The way I see it, when you get to retirement age, you have the right to go back to being an irresponsible nuisance and your kids will be the ones who are 'lame' and 'uncool'.😈
You and me both.
Might be the greatest opening guitar riff of all time
My brother and I would jam to this I lend from him turn down low and just before Guitars hit we would crank it
Es ....
It is still in 2024. Just that simple
Or possibly the best drum input at the start of a song
Started with a grate riff , and ended with a rap?
Another cool thing is the smile that Mark Knopfler flashes at times - can’t help himself cause he’s grooving so hard and he’s in the middle of something magnificent.
❤❤ Absolutely ❤❤. !!
!😬😬♥️💕👽
the "boo" he did at 1:57 was cool
Terry Williams on the drums, people. What a beast.
When music had originality, character, skill, uniqueness and talent, I miss those times.
Totally agree! miss the 70s
It had soul.
you are being ignorant, good music is still being made, you just have to go out and discover it
Amazing and original music is absolutely still being created, you're just stuck in your old ways.
Louis Cole. You’re welcome.
The rhythm guitarist is the human manifestation of the 80s.
He was such fun on stage. I loved him so much.We were FB friends.
Jack passed away last year. I'm still not over it.
Jack Sonni. Rip :( 80s or not he WAS cool.
he always looked like he had the best time of his life everytime he played on stage, sad that he got sacked from the band so suddenly
@@ibnufasya6408 he quit music after his children were born in 1988
RIP Jack. Your energy and awesome outfits will be missed.
This is what a real live show is supposed to be. Not even caring to play it like on the record, just like jamming out and having fun. At least thats what this seemed like to me.
Well actually he had to change the lyric to "Queenie" because that other word meaning sticks was not politically correct.
Im a black man raised in Detroit Michigan and dire straits was my guilty pleasure when it came to guitar riffs and talent overall ill out thst riff against anyone
You're a human being brother. We all of us, white and black, love great music. Bless you.
Imagine creating this awesome riff plus sultans of swing , tunnel of love brothers in arms, walk of life...romeo and Juliet...the list goes on....genius
You’re right, these are all great songs 🔥
Ride across the river is an amazing song too all the instruments
Telegraph road, probably Mark’s best solo… for sure the most underrated song of Dire Straits
And most people don't know about the movie soundtracks Mark did.
Great drummer. Unsung hero!!!!
Terry Williams est le meilleur batteur qu’ait pu connaître Mark Knopfler
Not only one of the greatsst songs ever, but one of the most exciting, anticipation-building intros of all time! It’s such a looooooong, expertly crafted build, with the intermittent drum fills slowly coming to life like this huge, magnificent machine is about to awaken after lying asleep for 1,000 years… and then Mark’s half-cocked wah riff with its glorious harmonics. OMG we have finally arrived at the gates of heaven, and guess what? It’s all about microwaves and fridges over there 😂
You ain't wrong!
Ух ты! Как здорово вы описали всё это великолепие! Браво вам!
best youtube comment of 2023 so far
I still love the Bowie reference!
En castellano tu comentario es incomparable igual que la canción no hay nada que se compare con este sobra de arte
Man what a banger! There just isn't anything like this anymore.
Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler. I still enjoy their music. Very unique.

Funny, I was born after 2000 and this is one of my favorite bands. I was raised correctly.
You right
Yes, you were!🎉
Same
Me too
Yes you were!
Rest in piece, Jack Sonni. Huge contribution to Dire Straits. Will miss you.
RIP
Rest in peace Jack Sonni.I will miss your guitar ..
How many people actually know MK has never used a pick? Yet he manages to get stunning sounds out of his guitar. Ah memories of the best decade to be a kid - the 80's.
There is even a interview video on youtube where he explains the pick and how to play it
Wrong, he does use a pick occasionally.
Jack Sonni❤️ What an awesome beat he adds to this tune with his Steinberger! May he rest in peace❤️

Man! That '57 cherry sunburst Les Paul is such a gorgeous guitar! What a fabulous sound! 😁
The best band in history! 🫶👊
Terry Williams is one of most underatted drummers.
in his own words ,,,,,,,,just the drummer in the band,,,,,wow
Pick Withers?
Rest in Eternal Peace Jack Sonni 🎸🎼🎵🎶🎙🥁🙏
A band at the very peak of they're career . Praying for a dvd /album of this concert as there's never been an official release from the Brothers in Arms tour .
Rest in Peace Jack Sonni 😧
Its coming!
@@bretfine688😮😮😮😮😮 Tell me more!!!
@@bretfine688Is it?
I have a German release of brothers in arms ,
Terry Williams is an absolute force of nature!
Yeah, don’t know why he wasn’t involved in the On Every Street era. A big miss on that final tour.
Why wasn't he deemed suited to drumming MfN on the album?
@@guitardave There’s alot of conflicting info about the OES album and tour. I agree, Terry was definitely missed!
@@marksimpson2321As I understand it, the material wasn’t fitting for TW’s style, but they kept the MfN intro and the drum fills, also I think it’s still Terry on Walk of Life. Their live shows just wouldn’t have been the same without him though.
Just turned 59 and I agree wholeheartedly. The music playing on the airways today is crap. Give me Classic 60's, 70's & 80's Rock anyday.
Today's "music" can't call it that. Not even close.🎶🎸
God I feel sorry for kids today with the garbage they have to listen too. I thank God I was young in the 70s and 80s when bands just ripped it up on stage with the best music ever.
Toda la razón
I know that, by garbage, you're referring to a lot of the pop and rap of my generation that is truly horrid. The songs with nothing real to say, with wholly foul language, basic and uninspired chord progressions, void of all artistic ability... just remember that if you dig deep enough in modern music, and you inch away from the mainstream stuff, you can fine some truly great music. The Longest Johns, for example, write and cover sea-shanties. Wellerman is their most famous song. The lyrics tell the very sad story of whaling, and how brutal it was. Fire and Flame from their album Cures What Ails Ya immortalizes the tragedy of the explosion of the Mont Blanc in Nova Scotia in 1917. Other songs of theirs are also really good, having good messages and interesting, skillful instrumentation. One of Phillip Phillips' albums, The World from the Side of the Moon, has some really good themes about protection, love, and community, with some excellent guitar work. Some amazing orchestral stuff I can offer includes Steven Bryant's Automatic Earth, Solace, and Ecstatic Waters, or Jim Stephenson's Symphony no. 2. Sabaton has excellent historical music, about WWI, WWII, and other conflicts throughout history like the Peloponnesian Wars or the 300. There are also some really amazing love songs like I Hear a Symphony by Cody Fry and Marry Me by Train. There's this one witty, albeit simple rap song called Bassthoven, which is a play on Beethoven and involves a lot of really well-done references to Beethoven. Video games have really good themes, like Sogno di Volare from Civ 6.
I could keep going but I'm sure you get the point. Mainstream music is horrible, sure, but there are some amazing songs in this time, admittedly very little of which is made by people my age, but still, there is excellent music to be found as there are excellent books and poetry to be found as there are good movies to be found in this day and age.
im young but i love music like this. A lot of people my age dont even know guns'n'roses
hello there (general kenobi you are a bold one ) im happy to say that im young and dont listen to garbege music it sucs the music now exept some bands but yeah most of the modern songs suc they dont know how make music they swear for nothing spesific bc they dont know what to write i hate my generation
dont worry, some of my generation much prefer this to whatever tf 'drill' is
Even back in 85 mark knopfler changed his song to reflect the sign of the times.
???
@@Jorge-vw4ubthe lyrics had a slur in it but he changed it to 'Queen' instead
@@Jorge-vw4ubthe original said"faggot" instead of "queenie'.
This is Wembley Stadium, he didn't want the crowd thinking he was talking about cigarettes with hair and makeup
@@JunkCCCP
1) Mark Knopfler is English
2) cigarettes are 'fags' not 'faggot' as is the original lyric
Master of Masters Mark Knopfler
So Far Away is one of the best Song of all Time 🤘🙏

One of the most recognised intros ever!! Love it 🎉
I miss the 80s.

It's abysmal, at the beginning of the 'Money For Nothing' the drums and guitar by Knopfler... SUPERB!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I love playing guitar to Sultans Of Swing! 👍
Terrific. Never tired to ear.
Jack Sonni, what an energy and dun he had and showed. So glad I saw him perform live on this tour in I think Rotterdam.
This is still one of my favorite songs of all time🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I want my early 90's MTV. 80'S were fun too from what I can remember, I was born in '81, the same year it was born. What a great time to grow up.

One of the greatest Rock bands ever, didn't have 3 American FM radio songs, but please continue.... Dire Straits is really good, just not a GOAT nom, in many minds.

One year shy away from 40years since I first had the privilege and the pleasure of listening to the what's now a legend a legacy and much much beautiful memories,,thank u.
Best song of all time
Absolutely brilliant, Mark makes the guitar talk!
One of my favourites...
RIP Jack Sonni 😢
I can’t carry a tune in a bucket but “Brothers in Arms” is in my collection.
In my opinion, on every album made with Dire Straits and as a solo artist, Mark Knopfler takes the listener on an emotional journey, full of wit, aggression and also melancholy. Many times there is a great deal of reflection, Mark being a percipient observer and interpretor of whatever is going on. For me, the music and lyrics are taking hold through recognition in the listener. It is arguably Knopfler’s greatest skill, and whilst many rightfully acknowledge and focus on his brilliant technical ability as a musician, his writing and lyricism sometimes get ignored, which is a great shame, since Mark Knopfler is a fantastic and conscientious storyteller, deserving every music prize there is out there ❤✍️ 🎸 🎶 // Carin in Sweden
Amazing. This song will live forever
Damn those synth pads are absolutely glorious on the intro.
the greatest band ever ❤ rest easy jack sonni 🙏
Today is April 14, 2024 and I as a 90s kid still listening to this song. Hit like botton if we're the same 👌

Virei fã do Dire Straits, em 1985, quando os vi, pela primeira vez. Sou fã até hoje.
